QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Choose not to answer

I have chosen not to answer the abortion-related section because these highly personal and complex issues are frequently reduced to campaign sound bites that do not fairly represent a candidate’s complete position.

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

I have chosen not to answer the abortion-related section because these highly personal and complex issues are frequently reduced to campaign sound bites that do not fairly represent a candidate’s complete position.

Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.

The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.

Choose not to answer

The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.

Choose not to answer

This is primarily a question of federal statutory interpretation and enforcement, not one that would come before me as a Colorado state legislator. I support the rule of law, appropriate legislative oversight, and policies that protect life while respecting constitutional limits.

ECONOMY

What is your position on the minimum wage?

Wages should reflect local economic conditions, worker experience, and the ability of small businesses to create and retain jobs. Colorado should avoid one-size-fits-all mandates that disproportionately burden rural employers, raise consumer prices,

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

Free enterprise, individual initiative, and private-property rights are foundations of economic opportunity. Government should provide clear, fair, and predictable rules while allowing families, farmers, ranchers, entrepreneurs, and small businesses to succeed.

List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.

Require measurable outcomes and regular performance audits. Eliminate duplicative programs and administrative positions. Review mandates that impose costs without clear public benefit. Increase transparency in contracts, grants, and spending. Direct resources toward core services and local needs rather than expanding bureaucracy.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

Government may not establish an official religion or coerce religious belief. It also may not exclude people of faith from public life or interfere with the free exercise of religion. The Constitution protects both religious liberty and the right of every person to follow, or not follow, the faith of his or her choosing.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

Government must respect sincerely held religious beliefs and constitutional rights of conscience. The Supreme Court has made clear that government may not administer its laws with hostility toward religious beliefs. We should seek lawful, reasonable accommodations that respect both religious liberty and access to essential services.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

Medicare and Medicaid provide an important safety net, especially for seniors, people with disabilities, and low-income families. I do not support a government takeover of healthcare or eliminating private insurance. We should strengthen rural healthcare, increase price transparency and competition, protect patient choice, reduce administrative costs, and expand access without creating another costly government program.

The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.

Strongly Disagree

Government should not maintain a broad, personally identifiable database of people based on their medical conditions. That would create serious privacy, security, and discrimination concerns. Public-health agencies may use anonymized, aggregated data to understand healthcare costs, improve treatment, and plan services, but patients’ identities and confidential medical information must be protected.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Strongly Agree

The Chinese Communist Party presents serious military, cybersecurity, intellectual-property, agricultural, and economic-security concerns. Colorado should protect sensitive infrastructure, personal information, intellectual property, and strategically important land while supporting American workers and domestic production.

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

Yes. Israel is an important democratic ally in a strategically vital region. Our relationship advances shared security interests, intelligence cooperation, technological innovation, and opposition to terrorism. The United States should support Israel’s right to exist and defend its people while continuing to seek lasting peace.

IMMIGRATION

I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.

Strongly Disagree

I oppose sanctuary policies that prevent lawful cooperation with federal immigration authorities, particularly when dangerous offenders are involved. Such policies can endanger citizens, legal immigrants, and undocumented residents alike. We should enforce the law, protect public safety, respect due process, and treat every person humanely.

EDUCATION

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Agree

Education decisions should be made closer to students, parents, teachers, and local communities. I support substantially reducing the federal education bureaucracy and returning greater authority and resources to states and local school districts. Any restructuring should be thoughtful and preserve essential protections and services for students, including those with disabilities.

Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.

Agree

American education should not be influenced by foreign governments, particularly hostile nations seeking access to research, technology, or students’ personal information. Foreign funding should be fully disclosed and subject to strict oversight. Funding that threatens academic independence, national security, or curriculum integrity should be prohibited. Legitimate international academic partnerships should be evaluated carefully rather than banned indiscriminately.

VALUES

Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.

Agree

Parents are ordinarily their children’s primary caregivers and advocates and should direct their education and healthcare. Schools must be transparent and involve parents in consequential decisions. When proper authorities determine that a child is being abused, society must protect that child. Schools must also protect every student from bullying.

Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.

Neutral

This question improperly combines two very different matters. I oppose irreversible medical transition procedures for minors. Social exploration alone should not automatically be labeled child abuse. Parents should be informed and involved, children should receive careful counseling, and every student should be protected from bullying.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Disagree

I believe marriage is a sacred commitment between two people and that strong, loving families are fundamental to healthy communities. I respect the right of adults to marry the person they love, while also protecting the religious liberty of individuals and faith communities to follow their own beliefs.

I support the expansion of gambling in my state.

Disagree

I do not support a broad expansion of gambling without clear local approval and careful consideration of its effects on families, public safety, addiction, and existing communities. Any proposal should respect local control and demonstrate that its benefits outweigh its social and economic costs.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I believe strongly in Judeo-Christian values and try to live by Christ’s teachings in Matthew 7: treat others as I would want to be treated and do not judge others. These principles call me to act with honesty, humility, compassion, personal responsibility, and respect for the inherent dignity of every person.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

Secure elections require reasonable identity verification, accurate voter rolls, transparent procedures, and consistent enforcement of election laws. Colorado should provide accessible identification options so every eligible voter can obtain acceptable ID without cost or unreasonable difficulty.

EQUALITY

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Strongly Disagree

I do not support assigning government benefits or liabilities according to skin color or ancestry. We belong to one human race, and our individual backgrounds are complex and often mixed. Government should guarantee equal protection, address present-day needs fairly, and judge every person as an individual.

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Strongly Agree

Women and girls deserve fairness, safety, privacy, and equal opportunity. Allowing biological males to compete in women’s athletics undermines Title IX and the rights it was enacted to protect. I support female athletic competition and sex-specific intimate spaces based on biological sex while treating every person with dignity.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.

Disagree

We should all do our part to protect clean air, clean water, forests, and healthy landscapes and avoid making environmental problems worse. However, sweeping political mandates that raise utility costs, weaken grid reliability, or harm agriculture and rural communities are not the answer. I support practical conservation and responsible stewardship.

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

Nuclear power provides dependable, high-output electricity, but no single source can meet every need. We need a safe, affordable mix of nuclear, natural gas, hydropower, renewables and emerging technologies, guided by reliability and public safety.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Lean Conservative

I do not believe every issue fits neatly under one political label. Overall, I lean conservative: I support limited and accountable government, private-property rights, public safety, parental rights, individual liberty, local control, and Southwest Colorado’s rural values. I also evaluate each issue independently and seek practical solutions.

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?

The criminal justice system should protect the public, hold offenders accountable, provide justice and support for victims, and reduce repeat crime. Rehabilitation and treatment are appropriate when effective, but violent and habitual offenders must face meaningful consequences. The system must also respect due process and apply the law fairly.

Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.

Strongly Agree

Protecting children from online grooming, trafficking, pornography, and sexual exploitation is a fundamental responsibility of government. We should vigorously prosecute offenders, hold criminal enterprises accountable, equip law enforcement appropriately, and give parents effective tools while respecting constitutional protections.

Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.

Strongly Agree

The United States Constitution and duly enacted federal and state laws are the governing legal authority. No religious legal code should replace or supersede constitutional law.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

I support the constitutional right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms. Public safety is best advanced by enforcing laws against violent criminals, strengthening penalties for unlawful firearm use, improving access to mental-health care, and addressing repeat offenders, not by burdening responsible gun owners with bans and costly mandates.
