The school's role in this situation should be to ensure the student's safety, privacy at school, and continued access to education. Schools can connect students with counselors and support services, and offer academic accommodations when needed, so the student can remain on track academically. Schools should not replace the role of parents, guardians, or medical professionals, but they should serve as a safe, supportive environment for students, while helping them connect with resources and trusted adults.

Public schools should remain neutral and focused on education, neither promoting nor suppressing religion, while respecting students’ constitutional rights to personal belief and expression, as long as it does not disrupt learning or infringe on the rights of others.

I support government funding for public education from Pre-K through K-12 to ensure every child has access to a strong educational foundation. I do not believe the government should fully fund college education; however, higher education should be more affordable. This includes supporting career and technical education, community colleges, workforce training, and efforts to reduce the financial burden on students and families.

I would support shifting greater control of education back to states and local communities; however, this must be done with a clear, responsible plan in place.
