My faith in Christ is the center of my life, and I shape my values based on my desire to reflect Him in all I do. I remind myself daily of the words of 2 Corinthians 5:20, "Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God."

When the text is clear on its face, the text speaks for itself. A judge should not look further to add meaning to that text. When text is ambiguous or silent on a disputed issue, looking to the intent of the authors becomes necessary. The judge's personal policy wishes should be irrelevant.

Judicial restraint is necessary to protect our form of government. The Courts have always been the final arbitrator of what is Constitutional, but that only works when the Courts restrain themselves from overstepping their proper role. Activist judges who desire to write laws from the bench risk a constitutional crisis.

The proper role of a judge is to strictly follow the Constitution and to protect our God given rights.

Courts have an obligation to correct error when the interpretation of the law was clearly erroneous and had no basis in the law.

I have prosecuted criminal violations, defended against them, and presided over countless criminal trials. In a criminal trial, our citizens need to be protected from having the government unjustly take their freedoms. Without a high burden of proof, the government could weaponize the judicial system against segments of the community that the government wishes to suppress. We must stand guard to protect our citizens from anyone who wishes to unjustly do them harm, whether a criminal or an all-powerful government.

Nobody wants a wrongful conviction to stand. The courts need to act immediately to address any wrongful convictions.
