I value life before birth but I also believe the government should not legally prohibit abortion because a woman's body is just that, HER body.

I believe the role of the school is to ensure that every student experiencing an unwanted or crisis pregnancy is treated with dignity, compassion, and respect while continuing to have access to a high-quality education. Ultimately, my responsibility is not to make deeply personal decisions for students or their families. My responsibility is to ensure that our schools are places of care, support, and opportunity where every student is treated with dignity and has the resources needed to continue their education and thrive.

I believe public education is one of our nation's greatest public investments and should be adequately funded from early childhood through higher education. Access to a high-quality education should not depend on a student's zip code, family income, or background. I believe government has a responsibility to invest in every stage of a student's educational journey.

While accountability for borrowing is important, the rising cost of higher education and the economic realities facing many graduates have created challenges that extend beyond individual responsibility. I believe policymakers should pursue solutions that make higher education more affordable, reduce the need for excessive borrowing, and provide targeted relief where appropriate, while also being mindful of fairness to taxpayers.

To me, the separation of church and state means that our public schools should welcome and respect people of all faiths and those who do not practice a faith, while remaining neutral in matters of religion. Public schools exist to serve every student and family, regardless of their religious beliefs or background.

As a School Board member, my primary responsibility is to ensure every child has access to a safe, welcoming, and high-quality public education. Regardless of a student's or family's immigration status, children deserve to come to school without fear that their education will be disrupted. I believe schools should be places where students feel safe enough to learn, build relationships, and access the support they need to succeed.

I do not believe schools should rely on any single outside organization as the primary resource for instruction or student services. My priority is ensuring that any partnerships the district enters into are educationally appropriate, age-appropriate, legally compliant, and aligned with district policy and the needs of students and families.

I do not believe consequences alone create safe and orderly learning environments. Accountability is important, but the evidence shows that relying too heavily on exclusionary discipline can have unintended consequences, particularly for Black & Brown students who are disproportionately impacted by suspensions and other punitive practices. I am more in favor of restorative practices.

I believe students should receive a thorough education about America's founding documents and the principles on which our nation was established. At the same time, I believe those documents should be taught within the full context of American history. That means truthfully teaching both our nation's achievements and its shortcomings, including the histories of slavery, Indigenous peoples, segregation, the struggle for civil rights, and the ongoing efforts to create a more perfect union.

While states and local school districts play a critical role in governing public education, the U.S. Department of Education serves an important purpose in protecting students' rights, promoting educational equity, and providing essential funding for schools.

I believe public schools should absolutely prioritize academic achievement and character development, but my goal is to prepare students to build a more just, inclusive, and human-centered society. A strong public education should equip students with the knowledge, skills, and character to think critically, solve problems, engage respectfully with others, and participate meaningfully in our democracy.

While families should have access to high-quality educational opportunities, I do not believe that expanding private school voucher programs strengthens public education. In North Carolina, vouchers divert billions of taxpayer dollars away from the public schools that educate the overwhelming majority of our students, making it more difficult for districts to provide the resources, staff, and programs students need.

I believe this issue requires balancing multiple important interests, including student safety, fairness, dignity, and compliance with state and federal law. As a School Board member, my responsibility is not to approach these questions through a political lens, but to ensure that every student is safe, respected, and able to learn in an environment that supports their well-being.

My faith is grounded in the belief that every person has inherent dignity and worth. I strive to lead with empathy, treat people with respect, and approach difficult decisions with honesty, grace, and a willingness to listen. While my faith informs my personal values, I also deeply respect the diversity of beliefs represented in our community. As a public servant, I am committed to serving all people fairly and ensuring that every student, family, and educator feels valued and respected, regardless of their faith or background. My guiding principle is simple: love people well, serve with integrity, and always work toward the common good.

I agree that parents have a fundamental right and an essential responsibility to direct their child's health and educational well-being. Parents are a child's first and most important teachers, and strong partnerships between families and schools are essential to student success. As a School Board member, I believe schools should actively engage parents, communicate openly, and ensure families have meaningful opportunities to participate in their children's education.

I support Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s belief that people should be judged by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin. I also believe that honoring Dr. King's legacy requires us to fully understand the work he dedicated his life to. At the same time, we have a responsibility to examine barriers that may prevent students from accessing those opportunities and to ensure our schools are fair and welcoming for all.

My faith teaches me that God is love, and I believe every person is created with inherent dignity and worthy of love, respect, and compassion. I recognize that people hold different religious beliefs about marriage, and I respect their right to those beliefs. I also believe that in a diverse society, government has a responsibility to serve and protect the rights of all people under the law, regardless of their personal beliefs or faith traditions.

I believe that mental health conditions should be met first with compassion, affirmation, and support. Every student deserves to feel seen, heard, and respected, especially when they are experiencing a mental health challenge. I believe students should have access to qualified mental health professionals who can provide appropriate assessment, counseling, evidence-based care, and support in partnership with families and within the bounds of the law.

I agree that books with recognized literary, educational, or historical value should not be removed solely because they address complex or challenging topics. Educators, librarians, and other qualified professionals play an important role in selecting age-appropriate materials that support learning and intellectual growth. At the same time, I believe school libraries should maintain collections that are developmentally appropriate for students.

I believe every eligible citizen should have a meaningful opportunity to vote. Our nation's history demonstrates that voting laws and practices have, at times, been used to create barriers to participation, particularly for Black voters and other historically marginalized communities. Protecting the right to vote means ensuring that election processes are both secure and accessible.
