QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
What role should the school serve in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy?
Schools should provide compassionate support, connect students to trusted resources, and ensure they can continue their education without stigma. A school should not replace parents or doctors, but act as a bridge by offering counseling, referrals, and academic flexibility to the student while encouraging family involvement when safe and appropriate.
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Choose not to answer
I appreciate this question, however, as a candidate for school board, this question does not apply to education. Therefore, I decline to answer.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Teachers should be required to instruct students on mandated curriculum even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Neutral
Teachers, like all professionals in public service, are expected to follow the mandated curriculum to ensure that all students receive a consistent education. The goal of our schools should be to ensure that students learn the required curriculum while respecting the individual rights of all involved.
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
Our founding fathers recognized free enterprise and the right to private property as fundamental rights under our Constitution. Our legal system supports free enterprise and these principles are the foundation for a productive economy.
What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?
While federal law does not consider education a fundamental right under the U.S. Constitution, North Carolina's Constitution requires the state to provide a "general and uniform system of free public schools". Therefore, the law requires government funding at the state level and I believe that we should continue to abide by our current laws and continue to fully fund K-12 education.
EDUCATION
Abortion and gender transitioning providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.
Choose not to answer
Senate Bill 49 addresses that topics such as this are prohibited from being discussed in grades K-4. Classroom instruction should remain focused on the mandated curriculum.
Consistent discipline creates a safe and orderly environment, which is essential for student learning.
Agree
When rules are applied fairly, students know what to expect. This allows teachers to focus on instruction and the classroom remains a safe place for learning and growth for all students.
Educators should give students a thorough education in America's founding documents and cultivate American patriotism.
Strongly Agree
Students should learn all of American history. Understanding our nation's past, including its achievements and struggles helps students become informed citizens.
I support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
Choose not to answer
I support equal access for all students. All groups should be afforded their same rights in the pursuit of learning.
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Neutral
As a school board candidate, I am focused on making sure our schools provide a quality education to our students, regardless of the structure at the federal level.
If a member of the public flags (challenges) a book as inappropriate and the school board disagrees, should the board impose a moratorium on when the book can be challenged again? If yes, for how long?
Yes. Once the board has determined that a book is appropriate, the decision has been made and should be final. To not impose a moratorium or limit the amount of challenges of a particular book would lead to continued challenges to what should be a decided issue.
Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): American History, Art & Music, Civics, Critical Race Theory, Foreign Language, Gender Identity, Information Technology, Language Arts, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, Political Activism, Science, Sexuality, Social Emotional Learning, Vocational Learning
Language Arts, Math, Science, American History, Civics, Information Technology, Physical Fitness, Vocational Learning, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child instead of the bureaucracy, through a program which allows parents the freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.
Neutral
There are strong opinions on both sides of this issue. Ultimately, the state must balance the rights of parents to make decisions about their child's education, and their obligation to provide every child with access to a basic public education under the North Carolina Constitution.
Which should students have: equity of outcomes or equality of opportunities?
Equality of opportunities. This allows the child to determine their own outcomes.
Which type of written parental consent should be obtained before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Education (CSE)? (A) Opt-In. (B) Opt-Out. (C) None.
(A)
Who should make decisions about whether or not a book is appropriate for children? A) the elected school board members; B) an outsourced community committee
Elected school board members are decision-makers that are chosen by the public to represent their interests and are ultimately, accountable to their constituents. I believe that final decision making authority should rest with our elected officials, with input from parents, teachers and community members.
2ND AMENDMENT
The right to bear arms is fundamental and must be protected.
Neutral
The Second Amendment recognizes the right to keep and bear arms. Many consider this to be a fundamental right under the United States Constitution. I believe that we must balance this right with the responsibility to ensure public safety.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
In the event of a pandemic, school districts can mandate whatever health precautions they deem necessary (including masks and vaccines) to protect students and staff.
Neutral
Schools should work with state health authorities to set clear guidelines while ensuring transparency with those decisions.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Moderate
VALUES
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a person of Faith and my spiritual beliefs guide my personal values of integrity, compassion and service to others. I recognize that as a school board member, my role would be to represent all people, regardless of their beliefs. My beliefs are personal to me, and I will not impose them on others or use them to limit others access to a quality education.
Children have a right to reach maturity without chemical or surgical castration, which would damage their healthy bodies through surgeries and may cause a life-long dependence on cross-sex hormones.
Choose not to answer
As a school board candidate, my focus is on issues related directly to education. As this question does not address education, I respectfully decline to answer.
If sexual education is taught in schools, what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?
Senate Bill 49 bans instruction on sexual education in K-4 grade. This prohibition does not apply to student initiated questions during those grades.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman essential to the formation and sustaining of a civil and prosperous society.

As a school board candidate, my focus is on issues related directly to education. As this question does not address education, I respectfully decline to answer.
Parents have the fundamental right to raise their child in accordance with their beliefs and values, including the right to make decisions about the child's education and healthcare.
Strongly Agree
Parents should have full and timely access to any and all records, including school and medical records, associated with their minor children.
Strongly Agree
School children have the right to be protected from sexual grooming including drag shows and explicit materials with pictures of sex acts and graphic language.
Strongly Agree
Schools should be focused on providing age-appropriate curriculum to our students and should not be focused on sexual grooming, drag shows, or graphic content.
Should schools be giving instruction on how to engage in sexual acts, the pleasures of sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity or should they instead focus on educating students about the science of reproduction?
Schools should be focused on educating students about the science of reproduction. Answering specific questions about sexual acts should remain between parents and their students in a home environment at the appropriate time.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
In order to drive a car, we need a driver's license. To travel abroad, we need a passport. To vote in something as sacred as an election, I believe that a person should be required to provide identification to show who they are and that they are eligible to vote.
EQUALITY
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
I believe that sports should be fair and safe for all involved. Protecting opportunities for girls and women is essential to maintaining integrity in athletics.
