QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Disagree

Defunding Planned Parenthood doesn't stop abortion, it cuts off cancer screenings, birth control, and basic healthcare Texas families rely on. Title X funds preventive care, not abortion, which is already illegal here. This punishes low-income women who depend on affordable healthcare. I support funding providers based on the care they give, not political attacks on women's health.

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

I trust women, families, and doctors, not politicians, to make personal medical decisions. Abortion should be legal and accessible, especially in cases of rape, incest, or when a mother's health or life is at risk. As a mother, it breaks my heart that my daughters have fewer rights today than I did growing up. These decisions are deeply personal and belong with a woman and her doctor. I will always fight to protect reproductive freedom for Texans.

Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.

Strongly Disagree

I believe these are personal medical decisions that belong to a woman, her family, and her doctor, not the government. Texas already has one of the most restrictive abortion bans in the country. I will always fight to protect reproductive freedom, not expand laws that strip Texans of their rights to make their own healthcare decisions.

The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.

Strongly Disagree

IVF has helped countless Texas families have children. Treating embryos as legal persons puts that care at risk, exposing doctors and families to prosecution for routine fertility treatment. I trust families and their doctors to make these decisions, not the government. I will always fight to protect access to IVF, not restrict it.

The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.

Disagree

This 150-year-old law should not restrict access to safe, FDA-approved medication like mifepristone and misoprostol. Reviving it would strip Texas women of essential reproductive healthcare, including miscarriage management, in a state where abortion is already banned. These are deeply personal medical decisions that belong with a woman and her doctor, not federal prosecutors enforcing a 19th-century statute written before women could even vote.

ECONOMY

What is your position on the minimum wage?

I support raising the minimum wage to a livable wage so that no one working full-time in Texas lives in poverty. Wages haven't kept pace with the cost of living, and families in District 149 feel that every day at the grocery store and the gas pump.

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

Free enterprise and private property rights are the backbone of a strong Texas economy. I support policies that help small businesses thrive and protect Texans' right to own homes and build wealth. A strong economy also means hardworking Texans can afford to participate in it through fair wages, affordable housing, and relief from rising costs.

List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.

1) Audit state agencies regularly to root out inefficiency and duplication. 2) End no-bid contracts and require transparency in state spending. 3) Stop diverting public school funding to unaccountable private ESA vouchers. 4) Prioritize outcomes-based budgeting so every dollar spent shows real results for Texans.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

It means government shouldn't dictate anyone's faith, and faith shouldn't dictate government policy for everyone else. Texans hold many different beliefs, and our laws should protect that freedom for all of us, not favor one religion over another. Public schools should educate all children, not promote one set of religious beliefs over the personal convictions families hold at home.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Agree

Businesses open to the public shouldn't be able to turn away customers because of who they are. Everyone deserves equal treatment under the law, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or religion. At the same time, our laws should respect people's right to practice their own faith privately. Discrimination isn't a religious value, and it shouldn't be used as a shield to deny basic services to Texans.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

Resoponse B: Texans deserve the choice of an affordable, government-funded healthcare option alongside private insurance, not one instead of the other. No one should skip care because they can't afford it, or lose the choice to keep a private plan that works for them.

The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.

Strongly Disagree

Texans' private medical information shouldn't be tracked in a government database, especially framed around cost rather than care. This raises serious privacy concerns and could be used to discriminate against people with chronic illness or disability. Healthcare decisions should stay between patients and their doctors, not become a line item for government surveillance.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Agree

The CCP poses real challenges to U.S. national and economic security, and we should take cybersecurity and intellectual property theft seriously. At the same time, I reject rhetoric that stokes fear or discrimination against Chinese Americans and Asian communities here at home, including right here in District 149. Protecting our country and respecting our neighbors are not mutually exclusive.

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

Yes, strong international relationships matter, including the U.S. Israel relationship, built on decades of shared democratic values and security cooperation. While foreign policy sits with Congress, not the Texas Legislature, I value diplomatic ties that strengthen America's standing and support the diverse communities that call District 149 home.

IMMIGRATION

I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.

Agree

District 149 is nearly half foreign-born, families who've built lives, businesses, and futures here. Local police should focus on solving and preventing crime, not acting as federal immigration agents; that trust is what keeps communities safe. Public safety improves when everyone, regardless of status, feels safe reporting crimes without fear.

EDUCATION

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Strongly Disagree

The Department of Education provides critical funding and protections, especially for students with disabilities, low-income students, and civil rights enforcement. Eliminating it would put those protections at risk and shift costs onto already-strained state and local budgets. As a longtime school board leader, I know strong federal partnership, not abandonment, is what helps districts like ours serve every child well.

Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.

Agree

American education should be funded and controlled by American taxpayers and public institutions, not foreign governments seeking to influence our schools or educational policy. At the same time, I support transparent international academic partnerships, student exchanges, and research collaborations that are transparent and comply with U.S. law.

VALUES

Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.

Agree

Parents play a central role in their child's education and health decisions, and I support that. At the same time, schools must remain safe, inclusive spaces for every student, and public health and safety standards shouldn't be optional. Parental involvement and strong public schools go hand in hand, not one at the expense of the other.

Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.

Strongly Disagree

These decisions belong with families, their doctors, and medical professionals, not politicians drafting one-size-fits-all laws. Labeling supportive parents as abusers threatens to tear families apart and puts children's safety at greater risk, not less. I trust parents and doctors to make the best decisions for their own children.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Strongly Disagree

Marriage equality is settled law, and I support the right of all loving couples to marry, regardless of gender. Government shouldn't use one religious definition of marriage to deny legal rights to others. Texans of all faiths and backgrounds deserve equal treatment under the law.

I support the expansion of gambling in my state.

Neutral

I'm open to a broader conversation about gambling expansion, including its potential to generate new revenue for Texas. Still, I'd support it only with strong regulation, local input, and safeguards against problem gambling.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I'm a Christian, and my faith is the foundation of who I am, as a mother, an educator, and a public servant. It's taught me compassion, integrity, and the importance of serving others, especially my neighbors who are struggling. I believe in using faith to bring people together, not divide them or impose my beliefs through government. That's the faith I bring to District 149 every day.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Neutral

I support secure elections and reasonable ID requirements, but Texas's law is overly restrictive, rejecting valid forms like student IDs while accepting others. I'd support expanding the list of acceptable IDs so eligible voters, especially students, seniors, and people with disabilities, aren't turned away at the polls.

EQUALITY

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Neutral

I support acknowledging and addressing the lasting harm of historic discrimination, including investment in education, housing, and economic opportunity in communities that have been left behind. I don't support race-based direct payments, but I do support policies that close real gaps in wealth, healthcare, and opportunity for all Texans who've been historically underserved.

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Strongly Disagree

This issue is used to target and stigmatize transgender Texans rather than solve a real problem. These are personal medical decisions best made with a doctor, not dictated by politicians. I believe all Texans, including transgender Texans, deserve to be treated with dignity and safety.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.

Agree

Climate change is already affecting Texas, more extreme heat, stronger storms, and greater flood risk in communities like ours. I support common-sense investments in resilient infrastructure and clean energy that protect Texans and grow our economy, not empty denial while families bear the cost.

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

Texas needs diverse energy sources backed by a stronger, more resilient grid. No single source alone can meet growing demand reliably; what matters most is investing in grid reliability so Texans aren't left in the dark by extreme weather events.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Liberal

I'm a proud Democrat, but my values are shaped first by 25+ years of serving District 149 as a mother, educator, and school board leader. I make decisions based on what actually helps working families here, not rigid ideology or partisan talking points.

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?

The goal should be safety and accountability, not just punishment. That means holding people accountable for their actions while investing in prevention, mental health treatment, and rehabilitation so people don't cycle back through the system. A justice system that only punishes, without addressing root causes, doesn't make communities safer in the long run.

Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.

Strongly Agree

Protecting kids online has to be a priority, full stop. I support stronger accountability for tech companies and platforms, along with resources for parents and schools to help keep children safe from predators and exploitation.

Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.

Strongly Agree

American law is grounded in the Constitution, not in any religious code, including Sharia, canon law, or any other religious legal system. At the same time, I reject rhetoric that uses this question to target or stigmatize Muslim Americans, who are valued members of our communities, including right here in District 149.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

Guns are the leading cause of death for children and teens in the U.S., surpassing car accidents. I support common-sense measures like universal background checks, red flag laws, and safe storage requirements, steps that protect public safety without infringing on the rights of responsible, law-abiding gun owners. As a mother, I believe we can respect the Second Amendment and keep our kids safer at the same time.
