QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Did not answer
What role should the school serve in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy?
Schools do not serve as guardians or proxy medical decision makers and therefore should not be involved in healthcare decisions of their students. I support the freedom and liberty of the individual and their families in making these decisions with their healthcare team.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Teachers should be required to instruct students on mandated curriculum even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Neutral
Teachers and students are whole people with deeply held beliefs. Public education should respect their liberty and freedom of conscience without compromising the duty to educate. While personal beliefs shouldn't override professional standards, no one should be forced to act against their conscience. Through respectful dialogue and reasonable accommodations, we can protect educators’ integrity and ensure students receive a full, inclusive education.
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Agree
As a school board candidate, I believe understanding America’s founding principles—like free enterprise and property rights—prepares students for success. Strong civics, economics, and career education help equip graduates with the skills, responsibility, and independence needed to thrive in a competitive world, while ensuring we are responsible stewards of taxpayer resources.
What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?
Public education has been a staple of the American Dream for generations. The freedom and ability to pursue basic education for all citizens is a crucial step in the development of children into adults. Government funding began in the 19th century, and through program development has expanded access to education beyond city centers ensures that children in rural and remote areas of the United States of American have quality schools to serve them. This promotes freedom and enterprise of adults.
EDUCATION
Abortion and gender-affirming providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.
Neutral
Parents have the liberty and freedom to guide their children’s education and opt out of content they find inappropriate. At the same time, Planned Parenthood offers free, evidence-based resources on relationship safety and safe sex that help students make informed choices. A strong public education system can honor both family values and access to accurate, age-appropriate information.
Consistent discipline creates a safe and orderly environment, which is essential for student learning.
Agree
A safe, structured and welcoming environment is essential for student learning. Discipline programs must be consistent, transparent, and responsive to the needs of both students and teachers. When classrooms are predictable and respectful, students have the freedom to focus and grow.
Educators should give students a thorough education in America's founding documents and cultivate American patriotism.
Agree
Our schools should teach the founding documents, so students understand liberty, autonomy, and civic responsibility. Patriotism means upholding our nation’s highest ideals—justice, equality, and opportunity for all. A strong civic education prepares the next generation to protect freedoms for all, serve their community, and strengthen Roanoke County’s future.
I support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
Agree
I believe all students deserve a high-quality education and a sense of belonging, regardless of race, religion, language, socioeconomic background, or disability. In Roanoke County, our schools serve students with diverse needs, including those with disabilities or emotional disorders. Every child in our schools should receive support and feel valued, so they can thrive academically and in life.
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
