QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Agree 100%. Both unborn children and elder adults should be protected from abortion and euthanasia.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
Taxpayer money should not be used in the destruction of an unborn child.
ECONOMY
I support using taxpayer funds to lobby the state legislature and/or U.S. Congress.
Neutral
I am neutral on this one. I absolutely hate the fact taxpayer money can be used to hire lobbyists. Unfortunately, with the way cities, counties, and the federal government is structured, some lobbying is required to obtain bill measures or grant funding. I still don't like it.
It is the responsibility of city government to provide subsidized housing at taxpayer expense.
Disagree
I do not believe it is the government's responsibility. People should not be expected to pay for someone else's housing.
Property taxes should be abolished.
Agree
I'll expand on this one. I would say property taxes should be abolished after the initial purchase of the home. Just like buying a car or items from the grocery store. Taxes should be assessed at the time of purchase. In no certain terms should anyone be paying taxes on a house that is paid off.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Government should not discriminate against individuals, organizations, or business owners who affirm marriage as between one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Absolutely not.
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
Religious freedom is absolutely at risk. While I may not agree with beliefs outside of Christianity, part of what makes this country is the freedom to worship who you want. That should be protected.
IMMIGRATION
City officials should have the right to proclaim their city a sanctuary city for illegal aliens.
Strongly Disagree
Absolutely not. Being a sanctuary city and allowing lawlessness breeds more and more lawlessness. Taxpayers shouldn't have to be on the hook for illegal aliens.
VALUES
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a bible believing Christian. Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation. I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. Families are the strongest when a father and mother are present. I value integrity. If you promise something, do your best to follow through with it. Honesty. Answer and act with the truth regardless of outcome.
Children have the right to be protected from sexually explicit materials in publicly funded libraries, including school libraries.
Strongly Agree
Children should be protected at all costs. Children are the future of society. They have plenty of time to learn about all these other things. No reason to ruin the innocence of being a child.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
A fair and free election is a core of our society. Part of that is ensuring only legal residents get to vote. The only way to know if someone is legal is with an approved form of identification. If you can't prove who you are, you don't get to vote. Pretty simple.
All filings by candidates for municipal office, including ballot application and campaign finance reports, should be available for public online access on the city website within 24 hours of filing deadline.
Agree
I agree the filings should be available for public access as soon as possible. Not sure if it can be accomplished in 24 hours.
Ballot measures which include bond issues should fully disclose both the potential tax rate increase and actual monetary increase for the average single family residence.
Strongly Agree
Lay all the facts on the table and let the people decide.
EQUALITY
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
Absolutely not. Males and females and should be kept separate. Males are inherently stronger especially as puberty kicks in. Keep the integrity of being a female intact.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) instruction should be required for all city employees.
Strongly Disagree
This isn't needed. Employees do not need to be indoctrinated at work to tell them how to think. It builds resentment and tensions within the workplace.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Taxpayers should subsidize green initiatives such as electric vehicle charging stations.
Strongly Disagree
Taxpayers' money needs to stay out of subsidizing green initiatives. If the green initiatives were as good as we are led to believe, they wouldn't need the taxpayer subsidy. The use of green technologies such as wind, solar, electronic vehicles should be the responsibility of the individual who wants to use it.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No.
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
To provide core services to its residents. Services that deal with safety (police & fire), infrastructure (roads, sewer, electricity, etc) and quality of life issues (pools, parks, etc). All while being a good steward of taxpayer money.
Candidates and officeholders should be required to disclose all business investments and real estate, whether in the city or in an area currently proposed for annexation.
Agree
I believe they should disclose. Deals done in the dark are usually no good.
Please list your business investments and/or real estate, whether within the city or in an area currently proposed for annexation.
None.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to immigration and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
I voted in these primaries and general elections:
2016 General Election 2018 General Election 2020 General Election 2022 Republican Primary 2022 General Election
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Strongly Disagree
As long as the police department funding is being used as it should, it needs to stay with the police department.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Zero. Law abiding citizens will do the right thing without being asked. As you can see in the country right now, criminals will always find a way to get a gun. The registries and background checks are to control the people who already follow the law. With that said, fully automatic weapons should not be readily available to everyone.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Strongly Disagree
I don't support the use of recreational marijuana. If a person truly needs it, they can get a prescription to use it.
LOCAL
I support annual financial audits of every city department by an independent, third party auditor.
Strongly Agree
When you are spending other people's money, such as the taxpayer, the public should know if it was spent wisely. The public shouldn't have to figure it out years or decades later.
Please list up to three issues or projects that you think need the most attention.
Fire and police. This one seems to always be a big issue. Public safety should be a priority and that costs money. Finding the balance of safety and spending taxpayer money is critical. Homelessness in Wichita. It is becoming a bigger issue within the city. Where does one person's responsibility or lack thereof become the responsibility of the taxpayer. That is an area that needs addressed. More industry. As cities become more expensive to operate, more industry should drive more tax dollars. How does Wichita bring in these industries to broaden the tax base?
