QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
In spite of denials, there is concrete evidence of infanticide and the sale of baby parts in this country. The minimization of human life impacts our culture in many ways.
What role should the school serve in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy?
The primary support for an unexpected pregnancy should begin with the family - not the school system. The school system should exercise no authority in such a situation. The system should support the family with the student's continuing education.
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
Our society is sliding toward socialism and communism. Our founding fathers would be shocked to see how much the government has become entangled in the lives of its citizens. Educating our students on the values and concerns of the founding fathers is a critical aspect of teaching history.
What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?
Our society determined that having an educated population was very important to the economic and civic success of our country. Key to this success is a solid education in English; math; writing; and founding and free enterprise principles. The primary responsibility for educating a child belongs to the parents. The parents should be involved in every aspect of the child's education. Government funding should not minimize parental control of their child's education nor mandate social change.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Teachers should be required to instruct students on mandated curriculum even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
"Mandated curriculum" shouldn't include controversial materials. At no point, should a teacher be expected to provide instruction on materials that violates their moral or religious beliefs. More fundamentally, neither the government nor the school districts should be mandating the instruction of materials inconsistent with historic Judeo-Christian values.
EDUCATION
Abortion and gender-affirming providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.
Strongly Disagree
All issues related to abortion or gender confusion are the responsibility of the family - not the school system. Penncrest has violated this principle. If a school employee becomes aware of any of these kind of issues, the first call should be to the parents. The school system should not be involved in undermining the student-parent relationship and should honor and support the family's decisions.
Consistent discipline creates a safe and orderly environment, which is essential for student learning.
Strongly Agree
Policies concerning student discipline should be consistently and equally enforced.
Educators should give students a thorough education in America's founding documents and cultivate American patriotism.
Strongly Agree
A critical component of history instruction includes the writings of the nation's founders. Students cannot appreciate America's founding and values without understanding the issues related to the revolution, the writing of the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution. The founding documents speak for themselves and should be utilized in the classroom instead of some contemporary texts that are implicitly critical of the founding documents.
I support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
Strongly Disagree
My understanding of DEI is that instead of academic achievement and performance, students should be evaluated on other sociological measures that seek to minimize achievement and excuse performance for any number of other perceived inequalities. There is no country on earth that offers more opportunities for people of all backgrounds to achieve success. We need to offer the tools to success to all students equally and encourage each student to achieve their best.
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Strongly Agree
The best response to this question is to evaluate what the Dept of Education has achieved for America's education. We spend an incredible sum of money on education, but achievement has steadily declined compared to other countries. Education is best accomplished on the local level with parents and teachers working together to uniquely address the needs, challenges, and interests of each student. The strings attached to federal and state money have significantly raised the cost of education.
Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): American History, Art & Music, Civics, Critical Race Theory, Foreign Language, Gender Identity, Information Technology, Language Arts, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, Political Activism, Science, Sexuality, Social Emotional Learning, Vocational Learning
English Language Arts(reading), mathematics, science, American history, civics, Art and music, vocational learning, personal finances, information technology, physical fitness, sexuality, foreign language, political activism. Gender identify should not be a part of public school curriculum.
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child instead of the bureaucracy, through a program which allows parents the freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.
Strongly Agree
There are a myriad of challenges with how schools are funded. Allowing parents greater freedom in choosing the school of their choice would certainly cause schools to be more sensitive to the needs of parents and students and in turn, impact better academic performance.
Which should students have: equity of outcomes or equality of opportunities?
In order to best perform in society, students need to learn early that their success in life is directly related to their efforts and performance. It would be a disservice to a student to suggest that they are "entitled" to success based on any other variables.
Which type of written parental consent should be obtained before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Education (CSE)? (A) Opt-In. (B) Opt-Out. (C) None.
Parents should always have a choice - but they need to first know the content of the education.
VALUES
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior at an early age. My Christian understanding informs my decision making. I have not always lived up to the standards of Christ but that is my goal in life. I feel blessed to have been raised in the U.S. where individual decision making is perhaps the freest of any place on earth. I believe strongly that all citizens should have an understanding of our nation's founding and the intense negotiations that lead to our form of government. As Thomas Jefferson said, "If we are to guard against ignorance and remain free, it is the responsibility of every American to be informed." Each generation must ensure an accurate understanding of our history and guard against woke ideologies that undermine our values
Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?
Ultimately, all education is the responsibility of parents and each parent must make an informed decision as to how they approach this topic and at what age. I am not opposed to schools teaching basic anatomy and physiology to include the science of reproduction, but there is often an attempt to go beyond this information and provide inappropriate materials to students. When I previously served on the school board, we found materials available in the schools that were inconsistent with Judeo-Christian values and the norms of most parents. Once children are exposed to inappropriate images and thoughts, they cannot be erased. Therefore, parents need to be fully informed and approve of what will be presented in the classroom with regards to sexual education.
If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- abortion methods and side effects; abstinence; consent; contraceptive methods; human anatomy/the reproductive system; physical and emotional health outcomes; sex acts and pleasures of sex; sexual orientation and gender identity; stages of pregnancy and fetal development
I would support the teaching of fundamental science that applies to human anatomy and the reproduction system - but not in the elementary schools. Due to the unprecedented exposure in society to sexual themes in marketing, it seems only appropriate that some discussion of the benefits of abstinence also be approached. If students heard first-hand of the challenges experienced by teen pregnancy, as it pertains to how disadvantaged both the mother and child are likely to be for many years, perhaps there would be less subtle encouragement to engage in premarital sexual activity. The content of this instruction should be completely available to parents in advance to allow them to opt in or out. The topics of sexual orientation and gender identity are not appropriate for the classroom. Should there be a concern in this realm, it should be referred to the parents.
Children have a right to reach maturity without chemical or surgical castration, which would damage their healthy bodies through surgeries and may cause a life-long dependence on cross-sex hormones.
Strongly Agree
The myth that a child can change sexes is nothing but a lie. There are over 1,000 biological and chemical differences between a boy and a girl that cannot be changed by a drug or surgery. Penncrest erred into this realm and facilitated inappropriate counseling and services. This should never be allowed to happen again. Any concerns in this area should be referred to the parents as a family matter.
Children have the right to be protected from sexual grooming (including drag shows and explicit materials) in schools and libraries.
Strongly Agree
Any attempt to influence a child to explore activities outside traditional Judeo-Christian values is unacceptable. There have been instances of Penncrest employees dabbling in inappropriate areas and the administration and employees must be held accountable. It would be a fundamental betrayal of both the student and parents to allow any kind of grooming activity. Further, "private libraries" of employees must be subject to the same restrictions and oversight as the formal school libraries.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman essential to the formation and sustaining of a civil and prosperous society.
Strongly Agree
Marriage between a man and a woman has been a Judeo-Christian value for thousands of years. This union has led to solid families and societies.
Parents have the fundamental right to raise their child in accordance with their beliefs and values, including the right to make decisions about the child's education and healthcare.
Strongly Agree
It is the responsibility of the school board to ensure that nothing takes place in the school system that would infringe upon the parents fundamental right to raise their child consistent with their beliefs and values. The rise of the "educational professional" can sometimes be intimidating for the parents. Parents need to be a part of every aspect of their child's education and be able to review materials, ask questions and have confidence in what their child is being presented.
Parents should have full and timely access to any and all records, including school and medical records, associated with their minor children.
Strongly Agree
The school system has no right to withhold any information from the parent of a minor child. It is the school board's responsibility to ensure all policies reinforce parental rights and access.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
If a photo ID is needed to get on an airplane, enter a federal building, etc., it only seems reasonable that they show the same ID to vote. One what have to inquire about the motivations of anyone who opposes showing ID to vote.
EQUALITY
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
It is entirely unacceptable to expose a student to the naked body of another student of the opposite sex because the student suffers from gender dysphoria. As a board member, I would oppose all attempts to have students participate in a sport with a team not of their birth sex. This is currently the Penncrest policy.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
NO
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
NO

To the best of my recollection ...
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Having served a career of 36+ years with the military, I have a love of this country and an appreciation for all it offers our citizens and the world by its defense of democracy, freedom and defense against tyranny. The values of this country have served us well and I am concerned that our children are being barraged by new social and political ideologies that are not based on truth or reality. George Washington said, "Truth will ultimately prevail where pain is taken to bring it to light."
2ND AMENDMENT
Faculty who are licensed to carry and have had ongoing training should be allowed to carry guns at school in order to respond to an active shooter situation.
Strongly Agree
Key to agreeing to have faculty carry a gun would be a thorough background and psychological evaluation of the faculty member.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
In the event of a pandemic, school districts can mandate whatever health precautions they deem necessary (including masks and vaccines) to protect students and staff.
Disagree
There must be limits on what requirements a school district can levy on students and staff. For instance, we learned well into the Covid epidemic, that vaccines and masks did not stop the transmission of the Covid virus. The school system should not be able to mandate a vaccine on students or teachers that has not been thoroughly studied and validated.
