OTHER INFORMATION

QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Agree

What role should the school serve in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy?

The school should notify parents and provide information on the local pregnancy resource center, if there is one.

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

At least at the K-12 level, I believe inadequately funded government mandates and political pressures are a huge problem for public schools. I prefer local control and funding sources. The School District of the Menomonie Area needs to do more with less until the school board can produce a solid plan to solve some big problems in the district and restore trust. Then voters might be willing to pass a referendum, if needed, to fund these solutions.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Teachers should be required to instruct students on mandated curriculum even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

No one should be forced to do anything that violates their moral and/or religious beliefs. That said, teachers whose strongly held beliefs are at odds with the mandated curriculum might need to consider another line of work. Mandates are rules, and changing those rules can take a long time. This is an unfortunate reality for all, across the political spectrum.

EDUCATION

Abortion and gender-affirming providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Strongly Disagree

Consistent discipline creates a safe and orderly environment, which is essential for student learning.

Agree

There is SOME room for taking individual circumstances and abilities into consideration when administering punishment, but not to the point that it creates a dangerous situation for other students.

Do you believe print and digital material available or presented to students should be easily accessible for public review, including those without children enrolled in school?

Yes

After the 2021 rejection of my request for one of every curriculum book used in the district to be available in the public library, I began researching the extent of the social/political agendas in the SDMA. Many non-transparent, public/private partnership digital subscriptions are purchased for SDMA students that need to be looked at and likely eliminated. Example: SORA

Educators should give students a thorough education in America's founding documents and cultivate American patriotism.

Agree

I support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

Strongly Disagree

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Agree

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction is quite problematic, too. Perhaps more so.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): American History, Art & Music, Civics, Critical Race Theory, Foreign Language, Gender Identity, Information Technology, Language Arts, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, Political Activism, Science, Sexuality, Social Emotional Learning, Vocational Learning

Language Arts, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Civics, Science (although as a culture, we do not agree on what is science right now,) Information Technology (workforce use, not how to read books online,) American History, Vocational Learning, Physical Fitness, Foreign Language, Art and Music

The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child instead of the bureaucracy, through a program which allows parents the freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.

Agree

I "agree" instead of "strongly agree" because I believe state control of the schools is going badly and it would be better to have the money stay and be managed locally. I support parents having lots of educational choices. That said, the amount of money per child should be standardized across education options, not favoring CHOICE schools or any other option. If public schools are providing special ed, busing, or other services to that child, they should be paid for that.

Which should students have: equity of outcomes or equality of opportunities?

Students should have equality of opportunities, as I believe they currently have in Menomonie. Many students may require special help, but that should be provided as resources are available, preferably from the community.

Which type of written parental consent should be obtained before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Education (CSE)? (A) Opt-In. (B) Opt-Out. (C) None.

Comprehensive Sex Education should not be taught in the schools.

VALUES

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

My Catholic faith is top priority in my life.

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

Parents are responsible for teaching sexual education to their children at whatever age the parents think is appropriate for that individual child.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- abortion methods and side effects; abstinence; consent; contraceptive methods; human anatomy/the reproductive system; physical and emotional health outcomes; sex acts and pleasures of sex; sexual orientation and gender identity; stages of pregnancy and fetal development

Students may not get as much guidance on sexual matters as they want from their parents. Parents might be uncomfortable discussing this and want someone else to teach these subjects. Different groups could offer free after-school classes on Sex Ed. This would be a fair solution as long as (1) groups were straightforward about the content, and from what point of view they were teaching the subject, (2) the decision was made by parents to enroll the student, and (3) churches were also allowed to offer these classes.

Children have a right to reach maturity without chemical or surgical castration, which would damage their healthy bodies through surgeries and may cause a life-long dependence on cross-sex hormones.

Strongly Agree

Children have the right to be protected from sexual grooming (including drag shows and explicit materials) in schools and libraries.

Strongly Agree

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman essential to the formation and sustaining of a civil and prosperous society.

Strongly Agree

Parents have the fundamental right to raise their child in accordance with their beliefs and values, including the right to make decisions about the child's education and healthcare.

Strongly Agree

Parents should have full and timely access to any and all records, including school and medical records, associated with their minor children.

Strongly Agree

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

EQUALITY

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Strongly Agree

2ND AMENDMENT

Faculty who are licensed to carry and have had ongoing training should be allowed to carry guns at school in order to respond to an active shooter situation.

Agree

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

In the event of a pandemic, school districts can mandate whatever health precautions they deem necessary (including masks and vaccines) to protect students and staff.

Disagree

I am strongly against mandatory vaccines for anyone. I am strongly against forced masking and testing.
