QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.

Strongly Agree

As a law enforcement officer for the last 39 years, it has been my duty and responsibility to protect the lives of the citizens I serve and uphold local, state, and federal laws. As sheriff, I will uphold the law as it is written.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Agree

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

What is your experience in managing budgets?

I am responsible for managing the PCT 3’s Constable Office budget and ensuring that taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars are used effectively and efficiently to provide high-quality service to Williamson County residents. As the past president of the Former Texas Ranger Association, I was responsible for overseeing our association’s budget to ensure efficiency and high-quality results. I've been a Williamson County taxpayer for decades and a law enforcement officer for 39 years, so I understand the importance of ensuring that our residents get high-quality services from their investment in the community. As your next sheriff, I will run an efficient, professional WCSO that puts public safety first.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Strongly Agree

Under what circumstances should government close churches?

The First Amendment is a pillar of our Bill of Rights and protects the free exercise of religion. The government should not infringe on the free practice of religion, including in a church setting.

Individuals, organizations and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their civil rights and/or religious freedom.

Strongly Disagree

NATIONAL SECURITY

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Strongly Agree

IMMIGRATION

What is a sheriff’s authority and responsibility regarding illegal aliens?

A sheriff’s responsibility is to uphold the law, regardless of personal feelings. I support strong borders and holding people who cross our borders illegally accountable within the bounds of the law. While my opponent has publicly stated that his Sheriff’s Office will not enforce a state law that allows local law enforcement officials to arrest people suspected of illegally crossing the border, I will follow the law to keep my county safe.

Employers should be required to use E-verify to confirm the eligibility of their employees to work in the United States.

Strongly Agree

EDUCATION

When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?

Parents should have a say in their child’s education. A school board is a government entity paid for by taxpayers and the First Amendment ensures the rights of an individual to protest their government. However, if at any time a violation of the law occurs (harassing, threatening, assault), then it's important that the law is applied fairly and justly.

VALUES

A county jail inmate should be housed based on the inmate's preferred gender identity and not on the inmate's biological sex.

Strongly Disagree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I have raised two children with my wife, M'Lissa of 34 years on strong Christian family values. Integrity and service in all things are my guiding principles.

Marriage between one man and one woman and the families they form are the foundation of civilization and are fundamental to the well-being and prosperity of society.

Agree

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

What role do you believe the sheriff’s department should have in ensuring the integrity of elections?

It is the role of the sheriff’s department to enforce the law and properly detain and assist in the investigation of criminal activity, including any criminal activity at polling locations or with poll workers.

EQUALITY

What steps and actions are needed to ease racial tensions?

I believe in having a strong relationship with the community I serve and I believe I've built that over my lifetime since I'm born and raised in Williamson County. It's important that Williamson County residents feel secure and trust the WCSO. It's important that there is transparency between the public and WCSO, and I intend to improve communication from the WCSO so residents have accurate information about what's happening in their community. I have protected and served Williamson County for the last 39 years as a law enforcement officer, and I will continue enforcing the law regardless of any demographic if elected. We will protect individuals from crime regardless of their age, sex, race, sexual preference, or any other defining characteristic. We will also pursue anyone who wishes to do harm to our community with the same rigorous standards regardless of any demographic.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) instruction should be required for all county employees.

Disagree

As your next sheriff, I believe in building a culture that respects differences but brings employees together towards a shared goal. Mutual respect and professionalism will drive the sheriff’s department culture if I’m elected.

ABOUT YOU

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No.

What do you believe to be the primary role of sheriff?

To keep our community safe through effective and efficient policing. I have nearly 40 years of experience as a law enforcement officer and I'm a retired Texas Ranger, so I have the experience and knowledge to manage an effective, efficient WCSO.

What new training programs/policies would you implement in the sheriff's department?

I will ensure that all staff are trained in the latest de-escalation techniques. I also want to implement a program for high school students to be educated on the dangers of fentanyl. I will ensure that our deputies are trained in the Interdiction for the Protection of Children which has been in place at the Texas Department of Public Safety for several years. This program will assist deputies in identifying children and rescuing children who are in danger.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to immigration and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

I voted in these primaries and general elections:

2014 Republican Primary 2014 General Election 2016 Republican Primary 2016 General Election 2018 Republican Primary 2018 General Election 2020 General Election 2022 Republican Primary 2022 General Election

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

I support the death penalty.

Strongly Agree

I believe in holding individuals accountable for their actions to uphold the rule of law. I also believe that high-quality investigations and properly applying the law are crucial for fair justice.

How would you address the overcrowding of jails?

I want to work with our court system to improve programs that reduce recidivism through education and opportunity. I’m committed to holding individuals accountable for their actions, while also giving them tools to choose a different path than a life of crime.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

I support the Second Amendment. I believe that individuals have a right to protect their lives and property responsibly.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.

Disagree

I uphold the law as written and will do so if elected. The legalization of marijuana is not up to me as sheriff, but we will enforce the law with regard to drug possession or use to keep our community safe.

Union membership should be a requirement for employment in the sheriff's department.

Disagree

What role do you believe the sheriff’s department should have in ensuring public school safety?

The sheriff’s department needs to be the leader in working with local and school district law enforcement to fill in the gaps where needed in our schools. Children are our most precious gift and it’s our job to protect them at school. I raised my two children in Williamson County and now my grandchildren are growing up here, keeping WilCo kids safe is personal to me, and working with local school districts will be a priority of mine if I’m elected.
