QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
I believe that this is considered a private healthcare matter and should left between an individual and their healthcare professional(s).
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Agree
As long as that reporting is kept private or anonymous and does not contain identifying information that could be used to imprison, fine, or otherwise punish the individual
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Disagree
Planned Parenthood provides a wide range of services other than abortion that have been proven to be beneficial to the communities they serve. This includes but is not limited to STD screening, contraceptive access, and other sexual and reproductive health services.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Agree
For terminally ill patients or those who are suffering from life altering condition(s) that negatively affects their quality of life. Should be left between a patient and their doctor to determine what the best course of action is.
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Neutral
I believe in a balance between Free Enterprise and public regulatory action to ensure a fair and competitive market for small businesses to compete with big businesses which benefits consumers with innovative products and services and competitive prices.
What is your position on the minimum wage?
I support a minimum wage that is in line with the current economic requirements for a livable wage. Any job worth hiring someone else to do is clearly a necessary job, regardless of what the job is, and should be protected from exploitation.
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
Yes
Public money is tax money. People should know how their taxes are being utilized and the ESG is a data-driven benchmark that grades how well a company is complying with public interests. If public money is being used to fully or partially fund/subsidize a program or company, either private or publicly owned, it would be worth knowing how well that program or company benefits the public that is paying for it. This is fundamental in transparency and performance for our tax dollars.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
The only reason the government should close a church is if that church is engaging in illegal or socially harmful operations. At that point, it has ceased being a church and is instead being used as a front for dangerous and/or illegal operations.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Neutral
If the individual or business is receiving any public funding, they should provide products/services to the public regardless of moral/religious beliefs. If it is a truly private enterprise/business that doesn’t receive any public funding of any kind, then it can refuse business to anyone for any or no reason.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
I’m somewhere between A and B. At this point, insurance companies are no longer advocating for better care and pricing for their consumers, but instead are profit-driven corporations that charge consumers high premiums with limited coverages in order to make it more profitable for shareholders.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
If it is a publicly funded entity, and depending on the efficacy and safety data behind the vaccinations, with exclusions for those who cannot receive vaccinations due to health and/or safety issues.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Agree
Absolutely but it is paramount to maintain positive trade practices to ensure economic stability for our country. As long as we are positively trading with China, they will not openly go to war with us. But we must also continuously invest in technology and security efforts so we don’t become easy prey.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
Yes, Israel is a strategic ally in the Middle East which has been plagued with significant geopolitical instability. Our relationship with them allows us to maintain positive influence and counteract adversarial powers through shared intelligence and counterterrorism efforts. But I do not agree with how Benjamin Netanyahu has handled the conflict with the Gaza strip and should be held accountable for war crimes against civilians. Hamas should also be held accountable for their part in this.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Neutral
No matter what we do at the border, immigrants will find a way through. We build a wall, they swim around it or dig under it. The *only* way to actually stem the flow at our southern border is to help stabilize the countries that people are fleeing from en masse. Stable countries don’t have citizens fleeing from them. It’s a large investment up front but a heck of a lot cheaper than building a wall that has to be maintained and secured year round, indefinitely.
EDUCATION
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.
Strongly Disagree
Public dollars should go to public schools. A parent already has the freedom to choose their child’s school, but one is provided free as an option to them, they can opt to pay for the other two options. When you gut the public school system by funneling public dollars into privatized education, the public suffers—as is evident right now. Ultimately, public education is provided free of charge to all. The other two are optional choices of convenience or a matter of personal belief systems.
VALUES
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Disagree
I agree that children are vulnerable but the focus here should be on ensuring those children are fed, have a roof over their heads, and are safe from violence, including gun violence. This culture war is creating more of a problem than it solves and merely acts as a deflection from the issues that are really harming our children. If we truly care about children, we need to put our efforts where it truly matters: safe education, quality food, and economic stability.
Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.
Agree
Agreed, but that doesn’t mean we have to fund all those decisions with public tax dollars.
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Neutral
I do not have enough information to form an educated opinion on this matter.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Strongly Disagree
The belief that all Americans are Christians is statistically incorrect. Not everyone believes in the same God or even a God, and is a constitutionally protected right. Claiming that Marriage is a God-ordained sacred and legal union means that it is also God ordained, sacred and legal in the eyes of the government, which would be a violation of the first amendment. Last I checked, the constitution applies to and protects ALL American citizens, not just some.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a baptized Disciple of Christ and follow the teachings of Jesus. I am also a humanist. I value human life over profits and believe that my neighbors are worthy of my love and respect regardless of what they worship, how they live, or who they love. I choose to live my life with kindness and compassion.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Neutral
Unless the states intend to provide a photo identification free of charge, requiring a photo ID to vote is essentially another form of a poll tax which was eradicated by the 24th Amendment to the US Constitution.
States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.
Strongly Agree
Every vote from every voter in every state should matter, not just in a few key swing or battleground states.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Yes, because it can lead to violence and hate crimes, fueling fear and division among communities. Racist ideologies can lead to domestic terrorism—particularly from extremist groups—which endangers public safety. Additionally, systemic inequalities perpetuated by racism undermine trust in institutions which hinders cooperation between communities and law enforcement. Addressing racism is important not only for promoting social justice but also for building a safer, more cohesive community.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Agree
I think this question is intentionally inflammatory and comes from a place of misunderstanding. In order to become a better nation, we must acknowledge and address the institutions that were rooted in extreme oppression that got us to where we are today so we can develop more innovative and inclusive ways to progress into the future, together. Otherwise we risk repeating the past mistakes over and over and over again. We are better than that.
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Disagree
I do not understand the obsession with what is or isn’t between people’s legs. I’m not watching people go to the bathroom, that’s just weird. This is an extremely nuanced issue that is compounded by lack of access to safe methods of gender affirming care in pubescent youth; and intentional misrepresentation of what is going on to the general public. Again, it’s a culture war intended to deflect from what we should really be worrying about, which is the systematic stripping of basic human rights.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.
B. I don’t care if it creates more jobs or saves a few billionaires some money when it causes more harm to the public’s long-term health and safety. No amount of money is worth the suffering of young adults and children dying from cancer in hospitals because they were exposed to toxic chemicals due to massive de-regulation. At some point we need to re-evaluate our obsession with profits and look at what it’s really costing us.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
Obviously renewable energy sources. We can’t rely on fossil fuels because eventually we’re going to run out. It would make sense to make the efforts to upgrade our systems and transition BEFORE that happens so there’s not mass chaos and death.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No.
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
The purpose of government is to maintain order, provide security, and promote the general welfare of its citizens. They are established to create and enforce laws that protect individual rights and freedoms, manage public resources, and ensure the provision of essential services such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure. They also facilitate economic stability and growth, represent the interests of citizens, and mediate conflicts within society so individuals can coexist peacefully.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Moderate
Balanced is the best way to describe it. I believe in the constitution.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Neutral
I don’t agree with redirecting funds from police departments because that would leave our PD without effective funding for high quality officers. But I do think we need more funding for community programs to keep our youth off the streets, and support mental health services.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I believe that law abiding citizens have a constitutional right to bear arms, but there’s heavy responsibility that comes with that right. We must be proactive in ensuring our firearm(s) do not fall in the hands of anyone other than ourselves. There needs to be accountability. Ultimately, I believe in responsible gun ownership.
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
No
The very idea that we can’t afford to pay the teachers properly, or cover books and classroom materials but we suddenly have money to arm teachers is just absurd. Let alone the risk of that firearm being found and used by a child. Teachers have enough on their plates, we don’t need to add even more. What we NEED to do is be more proactive to prevent gun-related violence in schools.
