QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
While I am not a fan of abortion as an institution, I do not believe that the government has the right to get involved in the conversation between a patient and their doctor.
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Disagree
These organizations do so much more than just provide abortions, and for most of them, abortions are a very, very small portion of the care they provide on a regular bases.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Strongly Agree
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
When the safety or security of people are put at risk. A modern church should be treated no differently than a business when unsafe or unfair practices are being used. Religion should not be used as a loop-hole to ignore regulations or to allow organizations to directly harm vulnerable citizens.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Neutral
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Agree
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
The United State's relationship with the whole middle-east is problematic, and caused by our inability to discuss issues around Israel without the term "anti-semite" being thrown around. Israel is not the Jewish people and criticism of the global and domestic choices of that country is not criticism or an attack on ethnic or religious Jewish people.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
I believe that while A is the best option, B is also a great start, as the major problem with our insurance industry's costs come from greed and collusion. A strong public option will force for-profit companies to become competitive instead of price fixing.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
When a person is interacting in a public space. If you want to be a member of a safe and productive society, you need to follow the rules that protects not just the most vulnerable of us, but all of us from the horrors of communicable diseases.
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Agree
What is your position on the minimum wage?
A minimum wage should be set so a person working 40 hours a week can afford the basics necessities they need to live and have some left over for personal endeavors. Any company that cannot operate paying a fair wage is not a viable business.
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
Choose not to answer
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Neutral
I am running for State House in Minnesota, unless there is a surge of Canadians coming south that we are un-aware of, this is not an issue for my voters or my district.
EDUCATION
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.
Strongly Disagree
Privatization and voucher programs have shown to increase profits for share holders while decreasing average test scores, reading levels and child endangerment reporting. The de-valuing of our public intuitions is nothing more than a grift sold to people who unfortunately went to underfunded schools when they were children.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Disagree
We need to fund non-policing safety programs to help our communities deal with things that our police are not trained for (medical emergencies, mental health crisis's) but those funds should not come at the behest of our law enforcement. Not only do we need these programs, but we also need to fund more training for our police who we have historically sent out under-trained for any task besides those around property crime and revenue generation.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I believe we should treat guns the same way we treat cars, the Government won't stop you from owning one, but to carry it in public you have to demonstrate proficiency and have it insured in case it is used unlawfully to cause harm or damage. I am a proud, responsible gun owner, I make sure my firearms are properly maintained, stored and secured and I regularly practice in case I am ever forced to use them.
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
No
A home owner with a gun is more likely to be shot by it than to use it for defense, arming teachers would have even worse statistical results.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
To help the citizens live happy, healthy, safe and productive lives.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Moderate
I am fiscally conservative, I believe our programs should show net positive growth and we should root out corruption and misappropriation whenever possible. I am socially liberal with a strong Libertarian lean, the Government should not care what consenting adults do in the privacy of their own home as long as it does not affect others.
VALUES
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Neutral
We should protect children from all abuse, not just fake types of abuse we make up for political points. No state allows children to have gender re-assignment surgery. It is also very disingenuous to associate "Gender Ideology" as abuse, as that is just teaching children that they have the control of their own body and the right to ask people to address them how they would like. I am against grooming, it is why I support outlawing all child marriages.
Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.
Neutral
Only when the choice is not harming the child. Just because you are a parent does not mean you automatically make the best or right choices for a child.
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Strongly Disagree
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Strongly Disagree
Words can mean different things in different places. No one including the Government can force your church to marry someone. Create whatever rules you want in your organization for marriage and hold your members accountable. Marriage is also a state institution that conveys certain protections and benefits to a pair of people through our Government. The beliefs of your church do not have a say in the State's definition in the same way the State has no say in your organization's definition.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
Like many of our founding fathers I am a Deist. I believe strongly in a higher power, but I believe we cannot fathom its goals and that it is a waste of time for us to try.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Neutral
I believe we should use a photo id for voting, but this cannot be done until we provide free photo ids to all citizens.
States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.
Agree
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Yes, because it is being used by foreign and domestic agitators to drive us apart. We are all Americans, most of us want what is best for our country and our neighbors, we just dis-agree on the best path and policies to get us there. Racism is a problem we as a country have had since our inception and we won't be able to be as great a country as we could be until we fix our divides.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Neutral
CRT is a boogieman at this point, so far removed from the collegiate philosophy that it started as. We have a problem with systematic repression in out country, around race, religion, sex but mostly class, anyone who says otherwise is either ignorant of history or lying to you. Once we acknowledge that some past policies were not created with everyone's best interest at heart, we can start changing them to be more equitable for everyone. Why is this a bad thing?
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Neutral
These are separate issues. When it comes to sports and in competitions where transition from a person's birth sex gives them an unfair competitive advantage, then they should not be allowed to participate. As for women's spaces, once a person transitions they are a women, so I see no issues allowing women to use the women's rest room. Aggregated yearly crime data has shown that people who transitioned are far less likely to commit a violent or sexual crime compared to a person who has not.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.
Stricter environmental laws and regulations require more investment and create more jobs, the only thing they hurt are shareholder or owner profits. This is not a zero sum game, but if it was their is a lot of room at the top to reduce profits without hurting anyone. Climate Change is real and we must address it if we want to give future generations a world they can thrive in.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
This is not a one size fits all answer, different regions will have different solutions. I will say, the answer is NOT oil or coal based and will come from wind, water, solar, nuclear and other sustainable ideas.
