RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
Abortions should be allowed at the request of the woman with a consultation of a licensed medical professional.
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.

As a clinical research professional, I can say that I have a fairly deep understanding on the process to allow chemical abortion drugs to receive approval from the FDA and reach the commercial US market. If a product is available at your local pharmacy or by a doctor's prescription, I am absolutely convinced it is safe and effective. If the FDA approves over- the-counter or telehealth interactions to receive such medication, then an "in-person" visit with a medical doctor is not required.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Disagree
Most of what Planned Parenthood does has nothing do to with abortions. The resources given to PP help millions of women receive low cost health screenings, family planning assistance and resources for pregnant women who intend to carry their babies to term.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

What is your position on the minimum wage?
The Arizona Minimum Wage, thankfully has been allowed to increase in recent years and its increases are now tied to the Consumer Price Index to account for inflation. I hope the Federal Minimum Wage will increase soon from its current 2009 rate.
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
Yes
ESG investments and an ESG focus for many companies is a large and rapidly growing part of the financial sector. It is critical that that the decision makers in charge of investments of public funds be allowed maximum flexibility to allow for this reality.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
In cases of extreme emergencies, such as natural disasters or large-scale public health and safety emergencies, governments should have the ability to close public facilities such as churches for sustained periods of times. Certainly, those powers should be checked by agencies, robust justifications, and monitoring by external bodies in order to minimize any chance of abuse. But we must allow ELECTED officials to make drastic decisions to protect the public during exigent circumstances.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

If a business is open to the general public, it should have to accommodate all members of the public. Certainly a business may establish rules for conduct, "no shirt, no shoes, no service" can apply, but it must apply to everyone equally.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
I believe it is absolutely immoral that we are the only developed nation in the world which does not provide a bare minimum of healthcare to all of its citizens, regardless of income status. This must change. There are many models in Europe and Oceana which could be applied here in the US, but it imperative that we cover basic healthcare at all stages of human life. Private insurance could certainly remain an option for any who choose that path.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Many communicable and often deadly diseases like measles have been virtually eliminated through the modern miracle of vaccines. Some level of mandated vaccine use must remain in place to protect the overall public health or they will come back.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

As a retired Army intelligence officer, I am very familiar with the strategic threat China poses to the United States. Our challenge remains to balance that threat with how both the United States and China benefit economically from one another. Over half of one trillion dollars flows between our to countries. American consumers greatly benefit from increased competition and cheaper goods. We must find a way to continue some levels of cooperation while China remains a strategic adversary.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
Israel as a democracy, trading partner and an ally in a volatile region of the world, should remain one of our closest friends. But we should not let that friendship blind us or prevent honest engagement with the Israeli Government when they take a callous attitude towards human rights or take domestic actions which may result in further instability in the region. The Israeli Government must remain as committed to a permanent, peaceful, two-state solution with Palestine as America is.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

We must invest in both manpower and technology to better secure the Southern Boarder. Our largest trading partner, Mexico, should also be engaged and assisted by us aid with this process.
EDUCATION
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.

The ESA voucher program threatens to bankrupt the Arizona public education budget. There are few controls, no means testing and a staggering 70% of students receiving ESA vouchers have never been enrolled in public schools. One third of ESA recipients come from households making more than $100,000 per year. We must revert the ESA program back to when it helped only the most needy of individual children.

Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.

I generally agree with this statement, but there will always be exceptions in certain cases.

If the recipient of gender transition services is eligible for other forms of publicly funded healthcare, then yes, gender transition services should be included in that coverage.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

The modern concept of Marriage always derived from both a social and religious concepts. Societies change and we should welcome a committed union between consenting adults who join their lives to each other.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I have been a member of the United Methodist Church since birth and am a committed Christian. I am deeply troubled by the attitudes and behaviors expressed by some of my brothers and sisters in Christ who shun the immigrant, ignore the poor and cast condemnations on anyone who is socially different.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Photo ID should be required to register to vote. But once that registration is established, nonpersonal (mail-in ballots, absentee voting) mechanisms should still be available.
States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.

While I have some concerns about the constitutionality of the measure, it is clear that will of the majority of the people is no longer being respected through the Electoral College. Currently, any Democratic Candidate must secure a minimum of approximately ~6.5 million MORE votes (~4%) to have a reasonable chance to win over any Republican Candidate. With the Republican structural advantages in the Senate, we march towards a tyranny of the minority through explicitly constitutional means.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Yes. Those who already oppose the vision of a multiracial constitutional democracy are becoming increasingly radicalized as demographic changes threaten white majorities in many parts of the country. It has long been the case that white nationalists represent the majority of anti government militias and white nationalists have killed more Americans than have Muslims since 2002.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Critical Racist theory does not assert that institutions are racists. It does assert that government institutions may have racial prejudice or bias built into them. However similar those two previous sentences may seem, they are a category difference in the field of academic theory.
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Gender is not always fixed and biology can be complex. In the 1960s a female Polish sprinter was disqualified from an international competition for having XY chromosomes. She gave birth to a daughter two years later. Such decisions should be made at the lowest community-level feasible with the assistance of medical professionals, clinicians and public officials.

Change is real and requires urgent action. The US government provided over $750 Billion in subsidies, tax breaks and other incentives to the oil and gas industry. We should phase out these funds and divert them to improve electricity transmission and green energy technology.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
Solar, wind and nuclear are safe and reliable and the first two are getting cheaper by the day.

The Founding Fathers did a good job with the Preamble to our Constitution, "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

Liberal
I believe in American security as guaranteed by our strong military and our allies around the world. I also believe that the government's role is to enable our successful future through public policies which encourage social equality and equal opportunity for all Americans.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.

Root cause mitigation of poverty and diversion programs for at risk youth would greatly improve outcomes for all Americans by reducing prison populations and creating more skilled workers, and save money in by reducing crime with subsequent funding benefits for police.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I support "red flag laws", mandatory trigger locks, mandatory gun training and licensure. I believe we should regulate the gun manufacturing industry to ensure that public safety comes before profits.
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
No
I've personally carried weapons in combat and and a school is the last place anyone should have a gun.
