QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
In Minnesota, a woman can have an abortion under various circumstances permitted by state law, including up to 20 weeks of gestation for elective abortions. Abortion is allowed to protect the pregnant person's life or health, in cases of severe fetal anomalies, rape, incest, medical emergencies, and maternal health risks. Minnesota law respects women's rights to make reproductive health decisions based on individual circumstances and beliefs.
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Strongly Agree
Various stakeholders have raised concerns about chemical abortion drugs, including safety standards, side effects, incomplete abortions, ectopic pregnancies, reporting and monitoring of adverse reactions, access and regulation, and patient counseling. It is crucial to ensure these drugs meet safety standards, healthcare providers can manage complications, and patients receive proper information and care to address potential risks associated with chemical abortion drugs.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Disagree
The debate over public funding for abortion providers is complex and contentious, with various perspectives. Opponents of public funding cite ethical and moral concerns, advocate for the separation of funds to avoid indirect support for abortion services, suggest directing resources to alternative healthcare providers, question the financial sustainability of funding abortion providers, and highlight political and ideological differences regarding reproductive rights.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Agree
Overall, supporters of aid in dying laws believe that these laws uphold principles of autonomy, compassion, and patient-centered care, allowing individuals to make informed decisions about their end-of-life care and ensuring that their wishes are respected and honored.
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
Overall, free enterprise and the right to private property are considered essential elements of a productive economic system because they promote innovation, efficiency, competition, wealth creation, individual freedom, and economic dynamism. These principles are believed to underpin a thriving economy that benefits individuals, businesses, and society as a whole.
What is your position on the minimum wage?
The minimum wage is a contentious issue with debates on its impact on employment, poverty alleviation, regional disparities, and effects on small businesses and marginalized communities. I believe & support it as a tool for poverty reduction.
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
Yes
I believe ESG promotes sustainability and responsible investing and adds non-financial qualitative value to a public company. Companies do give this credence when valuing stock price as well as investors considering ESG as a qualitative value along with quantitative value when evaluating the investment. Public entities should carefully consider these factors and assess how incorporating ESG considerations aligns with their investment objectives, values, and risk tolerance.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
The closure of churches by the government is a complex issue involving religious freedom, public health, and legal considerations. Governments may close churches during public health emergencies to prevent disease spread, due to national security threats, violations of laws, civil unrest, or court orders. These closures aim to protect public health, ensure safety, and address legal compliance issues.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Agree
Individuals and businesses and their moral or religious beliefs is complex, involving a delicate balance of competing rights and principles. While considerations of non-discrimination and equal access to services are crucial, so too are the principles of freedom of conscience, religion, and personal autonomy. Striking a balance that upholds the rights of individuals to practice their beliefs while ensuring access to services without discrimination requires careful deliberation and open dialogue.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Governments, schools, and employers may require vaccinations in circumstances such as public health emergencies, protection of vulnerable populations, prevention of outbreaks and adherence to legal frameworks.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
Overall, the Chinese Communist Party's actions in the military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic domains present significant challenges and threats to U.S. national security, economic interests, and strategic influence on the global stage. Addressing these threats requires a comprehensive approach that involves diplomatic engagement, economic policies, cybersecurity measures, and strategic alliances with like-minded countries.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
Yes, the United States' relationship with Israel is important due to the historical, strategic, security, and values-based reasons that underpin their partnership. The close ties between the two countries contribute to regional stability, security cooperation, and shared interests in promoting peace, democracy, and prosperity in the Middle East and beyond.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Neutral
The debate over securing the southern border is multifaceted and involves weighing various considerations, including national security, immigration control, economic interests, humanitarian concerns, and civil liberties. Finding a balanced approach that addresses security challenges while upholding values of compassion, fairness, and respect for human rights is essential in shaping effective border policies. We DON'T need a wall; we need immigration judges & officers and more digital equipment.
EDUCATION
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.
Agree
Allowing education funding to follow the child through school choice programs offers parents greater flexibility, promote educational quality and innovation, address inequities, enhance accountability, and empower families to make informed decisions about their children's education. I believe funding should be based on the child needs, as special education students are funded the same as regular students. This is a disparity in funding policy that needs to be corrected.
VALUES
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Agree
Safeguarding children from abuse, including harmful ideologies, grooming tactics, and bodily mutilation, is a critical responsibility requiring a collective effort from families, communities, policymakers, and society as a whole. By prioritizing the protection of children and creating safe environments that promote their well-being, we can help ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow up in a secure and nurturing environment where their rights and dignity are respected and protected.
Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.
Strongly Agree
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Agree
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services but the issue involves balancing considerations of healthcare access, equality, cost, individual rights, and societal values. I believe all are equal under the law and be treated as such!
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Strongly Disagree
The debate over marriage equality continues to evolve as societies grapple with questions of inclusivity, equality, tradition, and the role of government in defining and regulating personal relationships. I wished society and government would catch up to reality!
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
Deeply held convictions have guided me in understanding my place in the world, connection to something greater, and sense of purpose. My belief in a higher power, provides meaning and direction in life, guides moral principles, promotes inner peace and well-being, emphasize interconnectedness and unity, and inspire transcendence and transformation. Spiritual practices such as meditation, prayer, and mindfulness helps me to cultivate harmony, balance, and spiritual growth and increases my capacity to love and be loved. Developing emotional intelligence has been a welcomed trait.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Neutral
States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.
Agree
Issue involves balancing considerations of democracy, representation, fairness, state sovereignty, and the role of the Electoral College in presidential elections. The NPVIC promotes a more equitable and democratic method of electing the president, while opponents focus on disadvantages to certain states, and logistical challenges. Ultimately, I believe we need to change the electoral process! This should be decided nationally, not by the states as many have disproportionate representation.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Racism poses a multifaceted threat to domestic security in the United States by undermining social cohesion, fostering violence and hate crimes, fueling extremism, perpetuating systemic injustices, exacerbating economic inequality, and contributing to political polarization. Addressing racism and promoting racial equity are essential steps in safeguarding the well-being, safety, and unity of our nation. Efforts to combat racism through education, advocacy, policy reforms, & community engagement.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Agree
CRT is a valuable tool for understanding and addressing the deep-rooted issues of racism and inequality in the US. By acknowledging the ways in which racism is embedded in institutions and structures, CRT seeks to promote awareness, dialogue, and action towards creating a more just and equitable society for all individuals, regardless of their race or background.
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Disagree
This is a sensitive matter that involves balancing considerations of fairness, safety, privacy, inclusivity, and legal protections. It is important to engage in thoughtful and respectful dialogue, consider the perspectives of all stakeholders, and work towards solutions that uphold the rights and dignity of all individuals, regardless of their gender identity or biological sex. Social and governmental institutions need to catch up to the reality of our diversity.
