QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Neutral
I believe every person is made in the image of God. This "legal protection at every stage" should include both babies and their mothers. The United States has one of the highest pregnancy mortality rates of all developed countries, so we need to legally and medically protect women that may be having health complications during a pregnancy, too.
What role should the school serve in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy?
Most public schools are not equipped to care for pregnant students, but I'm glad that Volusia County has The Chiles Academy, a public charter school specifically designed for pregnant teens and student mothers, along with their children. I am also a county virtual school teacher and have had several pregnant and young mothers taking classes online with me in order to have a more flexible schedule to attend doctor's visits or care for their children. We can use these creative school solutions to accomodate students.
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Neutral
What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?
Every student deserves access to a free, high-quality Pre-K - 12th grade education. This will take multiple funding streams, including local, State, and Federal government. I appreciate that there are various levels of government funding for college: State Colleges being more affordable for students and then students also having access to private colleges and universities.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Teachers should be required to instruct students on mandated curriculum even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Agree
As a teacher, I am hired to teach the curriculum. As a science teacher, I have never been presented with curriculum that violates my beliefs. I believe that God created the heavens and the Earth and can still teach that scientists' best explanation for why the universe is currently expanding is called "The Big Bang Theory." The curriculum doesn't say who or what is causing the expansion, just that it's happening. I can then open a class discussion for students to share their thoughts and beliefs
EDUCATION
Abortion and gender-affirming providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.
Did not answer
Consistent discipline creates a safe and orderly environment, which is essential for student learning.
Did not answer
Do you believe print and digital material available or presented to students should be easily accessible for public review, including those without children enrolled in school?
Yes
I welcome all people (rather than partisan organizations) to take part in curriculum, textbook, and reading material reviews.
Educators should give students a thorough education in America's founding documents and cultivate American patriotism.
Did not answer
I support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
Strongly Agree
I know some folks are nervous about this acronym, but it literally means that we welcome every person of every background to the decision-making table to use their voice. Everyone is invited to the party, each person gets to choose a song on the playlist, and everyone is allowed on the dance floor to take part!
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Strongly Disagree
Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): American History, Art & Music, Civics, Critical Race Theory, Foreign Language, Gender Identity, Information Technology, Language Arts, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, Political Activism, Science, Sexuality, Social Emotional Learning, Vocational Learning
Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, History, Civics, Art & Music, Physical Education, Vocational Learning, Information Technology, Foreign Language, Personal Finances, Social Emotional Learning
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child instead of the bureaucracy, through a program which allows parents the freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.
Strongly Disagree
Tax dollars funding public school undergo a high degree of accountability and scrutiny. There has been a lack of accountability in money following students to private and homeschools. If we put safeguards in place to make sure that students are receiving high-quality education rather than lining the pockets of private corporations or even individuals, then I would be more open to it. My goal is to protect and educate students.
Which should students have: equity of outcomes or equality of opportunities?
Did not answer
Which type of written parental consent should be obtained before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Education (CSE)? (A) Opt-In. (B) Opt-Out. (C) None.
B. Opt-Out
VALUES
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that he came to Earth to restore our broken relationship with the Father. His prayer was to make things "on Earth as it is in Heaven," so I value working towards restoration and redemption here on Earth. This includes justice, peace, love, and as the disciples in Acts did, "sharing everything in common." My family has lived in International community with other followers of Jesus for 15+ years. We pray and read the Word together in worship and community.
Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?
Did not answer
If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- abortion methods and side effects; abstinence; consent; contraceptive methods; human anatomy/the reproductive system; physical and emotional health outcomes; sex acts and pleasures of sex; sexual orientation and gender identity; stages of pregnancy and fetal development
Did not answer
Children have a right to reach maturity without chemical or surgical castration, which would damage their healthy bodies through surgeries and may cause a life-long dependence on cross-sex hormones.
Did not answer
Children have the right to be protected from sexual grooming (including drag shows and explicit materials) in schools and libraries.
Did not answer
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman essential to the formation and sustaining of a civil and prosperous society.
Did not answer
Parents have the fundamental right to raise their child in accordance with their beliefs and values, including the right to make decisions about the child's education and healthcare.
Did not answer
Parents should have full and timely access to any and all records, including school and medical records, associated with their minor children.
Did not answer
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.

EQUALITY
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No
I voted in these primaries and general elections:
2014 General Election 2016 General Election 2018 General Election 2020 General Election 2022 General Election
I was registered "No Party Affiliated" for the 2012 - 2022 election cycles, so while I did vote in Florida's primaries, it was only for non-partisan elections
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Lean Liberal
My family is morally conservative but politically liberal. When Jesus asks us to love our neighbor, we want our government to help with that, too, which is seen as "liberal"
2ND AMENDMENT
Faculty who are licensed to carry and have had ongoing training should be allowed to carry guns at school in order to respond to an active shooter situation.
Strongly Disagree
Statistically speaking, homes with guns are more likely to have an injury or death to the gun's owners than to any outside, potential threats. I am not willing to increase this statistic in my classroom, too.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
In the event of a pandemic, school districts can mandate whatever health precautions they deem necessary (including masks and vaccines) to protect students and staff.
Agree
School Districts already implement health and safety precautions for things like "blood borne pathogens" and glassware in chemistry labs. It only makes sense that they would continue to follow Health Officials guidance on larger scale health concerns, as well. Their job is to keep both students and staff safe.
