15. What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers within the Constitution?
The Founders understood that political rule under a monarch or other political despot is detrimental to personal liberty and freedom. The system of checks and balances they created is still revolutionary in modern times. I believe the executive branch should stop usurping its authority and that the legislative branch should take their responsibility to contain the executive branch more seriously. I know I will if elected to congress.
16. Briefly list three (3) political or legislative issues of most concern to you, and explain why each is important to you.
• Repeal Obamacare • Cease military intervention overseas • End the ‘War on Drugs’ All of these issues are detrimental to our people and our economy. We need to embrace personal and economic freedom in this country and not thrust our values on other countries. I support having the strongest national defense. But I do not support wasting lives and money on propping up puppet regimes or keeping our oil supply lines open. We should only conduct military operations if we are under direct attack or under a formal declaration or war. The founders warned us about getting involved in entangling alliances. Their advice is still relevant today.
17. Should abortion be allowed under extenuating circumstances? If so, what circumstances?
Yes. But I do not support any tax payer funding (Federal or State) going to facilities that perform abortions. It’s wrong to take money from taxpayers to provide services that are morally offensive to the people who are providing funding.
18. Based on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, please arrange the following entities, starting with the highest source of authority, and continue the list in descending order of authority, skipping any that do not apply: Academia, Congress, Constitution, God, Industry, Media, Professional Sports, Supreme Court, Voters.
God, Constitution, Congress, Supreme Court
19. Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Christian, Episcopalian to be specific. I believe that a strong knowledge of religion is important in ones life and can help people make positive life decisions that can benefit themselves, as well as their families and communities.
