QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Choose not to answer

I have deeply held beliefs about when life begins. These beliefs are congruent with my values, which are based on biblical Christianity and scientific knowledge about the uniqueness of each life. However, because this issue does not directly impact my role as a school board member, I choose not to answer this question.

What role should the school serve in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy?

Schools should do their best to help students with medical situations that could complicate their attendance or learning. Every student should have access to a quality education and the opportunity to reach their academic potential. This also applies to students with crisis pregnancies.

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

Our school district has more funding per student than a neighboring school district, but we pay our teachers a lower average salary. In addition, last year, we transferred a surplus of over $20 million into the general fund, bringing our general fund reserve balance to over $126 million. The issue is less about total funding and more about where and how we spend that funding.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Teachers should be required to instruct students on mandated curriculum even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Disagree

EDUCATION

Abortion and gender-affirming providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Strongly Disagree

Consistent discipline creates a safe and orderly environment, which is essential for student learning.

Strongly Agree

Do you believe print and digital material available or presented to students should be easily accessible for public review, including those without children enrolled in school?

Yes

Educators should give students a thorough education in America's founding documents and cultivate American patriotism.

Strongly Agree

I support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

Disagree

While I support the original concept of a diverse population having equitable opportunities where everyone feels included and respected, the term "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion" (DEI) has been twisted into a political position. With the twisted definition, only certain forms of diversity seem to be valued while diversity of thought is ignored. Similar issues exist with the politicization of the terms equity and inclusion. A policy of respect, equal opportunity and achievement is more helpful.

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Agree

The Department of Education has only existed since 1980. In the forty-four years it has existed, the United States has fallen behind previous educational achievement rates. If the Department of Education is eliminated, there are funding issues that will need to be addressed. The benefit of more agile and responsive adjustments that are only possible through local control makes that obstacle well worth the effort to overcome.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): American History, Art & Music, Civics, Critical Race Theory, Foreign Language, Gender Identity, Information Technology, Language Arts, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, Political Activism, Science, Sexuality, Social Emotional Learning, Vocational Learning

The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child instead of the bureaucracy, through a program which allows parents the freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.

Agree

Our communities have long recognized the social benefits of ensuring that every child receives a quality education, which is why we are committed to funding student learning. The fact that some students thrive in different environments should not remove our society's responsibility to provide a solid education for all. Therefore, funding should follow the student rather than being tied to a system that may not best support their learning needs.

Which should students have: equity of outcomes or equality of opportunities?

Equality of opportunities is far preferred to equity of outcomes. Every student, regardless of family status or background, should have the chance to reach their full potential. Equity of outcomes suggests that all students will have the same or similar outcomes. That is unrealistic. To achieve a goal or equal outcomes, some students would have to be held back from using their full capabilities. That is intrinsically unjust.

Which type of written parental consent should be obtained before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Education (CSE)? (A) Opt-In. (B) Opt-Out. (C) None.

(A) Opt-in parental consent is required before Comprehensive Sex Education (CSE) is taught.

VALUES

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a Christ follower and trust in Jesus for my salvation. My values agree with the biblical principles that helped found our nation. They include ideals of truth, equal value of all people, due process, and justice.

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

This subject is already covered by Arizona laws. Parents are the ultimate decision-makers on what, if any, sexual education is appropriate for their children. Any sexual education taught to students must be agreed to by their parents, in writing, prior to the lesson.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- abortion methods and side effects; abstinence; consent; contraceptive methods; human anatomy/the reproductive system; physical and emotional health outcomes; sex acts and pleasures of sex; sexual orientation and gender identity; stages of pregnancy and fetal development

Sexual education curricula should be based on physical anatomy and stress abstinence in keeping with state law.

Children have a right to reach maturity without chemical or surgical castration, which would damage their healthy bodies through surgeries and may cause a life-long dependence on cross-sex hormones.

Strongly Agree

Children have the right to be protected from sexual grooming (including drag shows and explicit materials) in schools and libraries.

Strongly Agree

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman essential to the formation and sustaining of a civil and prosperous society.

Choose not to answer

I have deeply held beliefs about marriage that are in agreement with my values and are based on biblical Christianity. However, because this issue does not directly impact my role as a school board member, I choose not to answer this question.

Parents have the fundamental right to raise their child in accordance with their beliefs and values, including the right to make decisions about the child's education and healthcare.

Strongly Agree

Parents should have full and timely access to any and all records, including school and medical records, associated with their minor children.

Strongly Agree

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

EQUALITY

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Strongly Agree

People who struggle with body dysmorphia should be treated with respect and compassion. Their struggle does not take precedence over other student's privacy or safety.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

2ND AMENDMENT

Faculty who are licensed to carry and have had ongoing training should be allowed to carry guns at school in order to respond to an active shooter situation.

Choose not to answer

To answer this question, much more information is needed to ensure the school environment is safe for all involved. That being said, proactively taking steps to harden our schools to prevent them from being easy targets would help ensure our students are kept safe from outside threats.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

In the event of a pandemic, school districts can mandate whatever health precautions they deem necessary (including masks and vaccines) to protect students and staff.

Disagree

Individuals should always make their personal health decisions. Institutions can reasonably take health precautions, such as cleaning regimens, air filters, and decisions to hold classes outdoors, that do not impede learning or personal health decisions.
