RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
Support allowing access to abortion during early stages of pregnancy. Open to restricting elective abortion at some point after that, leaving exceptions, if mother’s health gravely jeopardized by carrying a baby to term. Support parental consent/notification laws, such as the one recently repealed by Illinois legislature, which had a measure allowing social worker or other authority to advocate for child to judge if parental situation part of the problem. Support curbing taxpayer funded abortion
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Strongly Agree
All pharmaceutical products that have serious side effects should meet essential safety standards and be taken only after medical consultation. Any respectable pharmacist would laugh at any legislator who would suggest that pharmaceuticals like abortifacients do not need continual monitoring of adverse reactions and outcomes.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Neutral
Abortions should not be funded by the taxpayer, and organizations such as Planned Parenthood should be monitored for any political activity or accounting irregularities that would divert government money into providing for such. However, it would be foolish to jeopardize a health organization’s ability to receive government funding for other important services, on the basis that it offers abortions in accordance with the law.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Disagree
Knowing people who have faced bleak terminal diagnoses, I understand the good intentions in wanting to relieve someone of needless pain. However, such legislation opens a Pandora’s box of undesirable outcomes, including insurance companies (or the government acting as the insurance provider), denying life-prolonging treatment or palliative care in favor of a much less expensive, medically-assisted suicide.
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
This is the very basis of personal and financial investment into an enterprise, especially for those that make the personal sacrifice(s) & financial commitment to establish a business. Without the profit motive & personal satisfaction derived from developing an enterprise, there would be no reason to make the effort. Regardless of size, incentives to invest are foundational to a robust economic system.
What is your position on the minimum wage?
Labor-one of the highest percent in cost structure. If wages are too high, business will respond w/automation & job cuts/job exports. (Ex. CA). Ultimately, a business must make a remunerative return or they will go away. There needs to be a balance.
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
No
Many have their own ideological preferences & select reflexively, perhaps not based on science, market, geopolitical and/or global conditions & who may not have sector knowledge and/or technical skills to properly evaluate investments dispassionately. We also have a massive, unfunded pension liability w/our State employees & have responsibility to augment underfunded pension system w/highest possible safe return, w/o faddish political considerations.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
If the church is a cover for criminal activity, such as child trafficking or money laundering, that church should be closed. But, closing a church that has constitutionally protected function of worship, should not be closed.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
The choice should be free to make by the service provider. Businesses have every right to select their customers, or not, based on financial reasons (credit, competition, distributorship territories, etc.), or they may choose not to promote or facilitate the missions or philosophies of those customers with whom they disagree. It’s a free-market system & anyone can select doing business with whomever they choose.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
It depends on what malady is being vaccinated against. If it’s a known danger, such as measles, smallpox, polio, bubonic plague or highly contagious diseases, then yes. The efficacy and safety of the vaccine needs to be proven, before being mandated.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
The CCP is a malevolent enemy that seeks to unseat us & threaten us strategically. However, deals like the GOTION battery deal should have had much more scrutiny, as it supports the CCP, directly and indirectly. Well-informed candidates should have a sober & realistic perspective on the geopolitical implications of any deals w/Chinese enterprises (who must do as the Chinese gov’t bids them to do) & place US technological, labor & market interests 1st & favor US & especially Illinois businesses.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
They are a nation that shares the values of most western nations and have much in common with our western allies, have the best human rights record in the Middle East and have been loyal allies. I also disapprove of any “Boycott, Divest & Sanction” (BDS) initiatives being considered by the Illinois general assembly.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
It’s madness to allow uncontrolled mass movements of unknown people, as to origin, motivation, background, skill levels, education & health, etc., into the US. It’s so fundamental & common-sense & astonishing this is even a question to debate & this scenario exists. NO other country on the planet would allow this. Current situation w/migrants is hard on state/local finances & heartbreaking for immigrants. It’s the fault of the Fed government for allowing unchecked immigration into this country.
EDUCATION
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.
Strongly Agree
Parents have, not only the right, but the duty to ensure that their child gets the best possible education. Anything that stands in the way of those choices is unacceptable & circumvents the parents’ right to seek the best for their child.
VALUES
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Strongly Agree
Children should not be abused by school staff. Intervention may be necessary with peer (other students – or non-students, who don’t even belong on the premises), any of whom are physical bullies. The other three are also unacceptable and must be guarded against vigilantly.
Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.
Strongly Agree
The ultimate decision lies with the parents, not the State, the school board, teachers or other non-immediate family members.
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Strongly Disagree
I do not favor anything that detracts and distracts from the main mission of teaching strictly academic fundamentals; reading, reading comprehension, writing, composition, spelling, vocabulary, math, STEM subjects & functional literacy. This will ultimately manifest through improving test scores. Curriculums should be about preparing a pipeline of future generations of our workforce with strong, basic academic skills & absolutely nothing to detour kids into non-academic topics.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Neutral
This is a decision that a couple, however you define them, can make on their own.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
While I am not inflexibly doctrinal in a religious context, I do believe that regardless of the variations of faiths, one must have a deeply ingrained set of core, foundational spiritual values, instilled from childhood, which then become an individual’s “North Star” guidance of morality. When I’m involved in anything, I believe that I should leave more value than before participating, plus “do unto others as they would do onto you”.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
To vote without properly identifying themselves is, prima facie, absurd. For people to vote w/o properly & securely identifying themselves is an invitation to fraud. I have a German friend who certifies elections in other countries around the world on behalf of the European Union, w/mission of ensuring free & fair elections, one of the 1st signs of fraud is not identifying the voter properly. Air ticket, open bank account, buy event tickets w/o proper ID? No - so why should voting be different?
States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.
Strongly Disagree
This looks like an end-run around the Constitution. The only way to do eliminate the electoral college is by constitutional amendment. As long as the electoral college exists, the electors should represent the will of the voters of Illinois.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Anything that divides the population of the country can be used as an internal, divisive weapon to demoralize and promote rifts between demographic groups. This is especially true and risky for the military. Unfairness and injustice do not help our population, domestically or internationally.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
I do not agree with this. As I mentioned above, anything that is divisive, inciteful & diminishes our internal morale is the wrong approach that will generate resentment on multiple sides and weaken our nation.
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
The notion that a biological male can suddenly declare himself a woman is laughable. Biology and evolution make adaptations, through nature, genetics & environment. A human that has been born a male, with natural gender characteristics, is functionally a male and not female. As such, they have no business being in women's sports or spaces.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.
C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
Nuclear. Thorium should also be explored. Next, hydroelectric. In order to capitalize on wind & solar, the distribution network has to be in place, which it is not yet.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
To guide and not over-regulate. To provide a structure to facilitate commerce, health, defense and general well-being. Also to protect the public from internal and external threats. Let the free markets find economic equilibrium. Do NOT oversteer! Do NOT impede commerce with unnecessarily burdensome regulation & taxation.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Moderate
In general, I am someone who has a moderate, balanced perspective. I have both participated & established businesses, observed & experienced a wide spectrum of human endeavor, domestically & internationally, as well having the good fortune of interacting with some of the most brilliant minds on the planet while getting my PhD in Applied Economics in Europe. I bring the benefit of that balanced blend into the office I seek.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Strongly Disagree
Police had resources cut so much, they cannot conduct previously normal levels of vigilance & coverage. Bring back funding, so police can respond more quickly & by being adequately manned for response & coverage. Community programs are functionally different & should be funded separately, not from police budgets. Lenient & permissive prosecutors putting habitual criminals back on the streets impede police from conducting their functions, neutralize their benefit & give incentives to criminals.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Ensuring criminals and/or unbalanced individuals do not get guns.
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
No
There should be the option, depending on the nature of the area, if security requires it. Otherwise, if no need is indicated, then no. Common sense. However, security in schools should be an option at schools, given the rise in violence in school shootings & other local conditions, to be considered on a case-by-case basis. In general, though, one can imagine that an armed teacher has enough other responsibilities on their plate, that this is likely beyond their expected scope of duties.
