QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Neutral

Abortion provision should be funded by the state (as other medical or healthcare procedures should be); however, consistent with how taxpayer funds are used by nonprofits for other public services, I see no reason why abortion providers should not receive taxpayer funds.

Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.

Neutral

Abortion drugs should (like other drugs) meet safety standards and require reporting for public health purposes. However, abortion should be allowed at all stages of pregnancy without interference or coercion. If in-person consultations with a medical doctor place an undue burden on the provision of safe and effective drugs, then it is unnecessary.

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

Elective abortions should be allowed at all stages of pregnancy.

Does the federal government have a role to play in limiting abortion, and if so what federal steps and/or federal legislation would you support?

The federal government should not limit abortion unless the procedure is unsafe for the mother. Therefore, the federal government should regulate the practice of abortion, consistent with any other medical procedure, to make sure it is safe for the person undergoing the procedure.

ECONOMY

What actions would you take that would allow Americans to retain more of their income and wealth?

I would invest more in public services by taxing the wealthy. That way, the vast majority of Americans will retain more of their wealth through public service provision.

Student loan forgiveness unfairly shifts the financial burden to those not responsible for student debt.

Neutral

I would forgive student loan debt but also I would publicly fund higher education. That way, those that gained under debt forgiveness would provide support for those who did not gain under debt forgiveness.

Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?

Yes

To the extent it is useful in shifting public resources to socially desirable purposes, I think it should be used.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

I demand complete separation between institutions of Church and State. Recognizing that everyone has a right to their own spiritual, religious, or nonreligious beliefs and practices, the domains of the State and the domains of the Church must be kept distinct and apart. Accordingly, public education, public housing, the workplace and government facilities and functions must be free of all influence and interference from the Church.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Agree

Business should not to be allowed to provide their services only to those they agree with. This would create a tyranny of the majority on the minority, and effectively shut out a discriminated minority from goods and services.

HEALTHCARE

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

Governments, schools, and employers should be allowed to require vaccinations (subject to good faith exceptions to them like medical exceptions).

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

Section A

NATIONAL SECURITY

With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.

C

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Strongly Disagree

The Chinese Communist Party is a competitor with the United States, however they are not "threats" any more than Japan was a "threat" to us in the 1990s. We should acknowledge the role China has in East Asia, respect their interests, and support them to manage global affairs and reduce conflict.

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

US-Israel relations are important in the sense Israel allows us to project force in the Middle East. However our relations with them are also important because it is a liability due to Israel's hostile relations with the Palestinians and Arab neighbors. It creates instability in the region we must then manage. And our support for them in international fora (like the UN) hurts our relations with other countries and ultimately damages our soft power abroad.

What are the causes of decline in U.S. military recruitment and retention?

I am not sure- I have not researched the matter.

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Strongly Disagree

Consistent with socialist policies historically- the US (and other countries) should ideally have open borders. We need less militarization of the border and a more humanitarian response to immigrants.

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

Any immigrants under almost any circumstances. The issue is not immigrants or immigration, it is incorporating immigrants into our communities so our communities are safe and sustainable.

EDUCATION

I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.

Choose not to answer

I do not know school choice policy to make an informed decision about its merits; however I am in favor of free public schools and increasing our support for public schools. In practice, this may reduce the opportunity or need for non-public schools.

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Strongly Disagree

VALUES

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Strongly Disagree

Marriage is a legal and societal construct. As such, it can be changed and altered however the government (and society) wants.

Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.

Neutral

Children should be free from coerced bodily mutilation (including circumcision), abuse, and so-called "grooming". However, care for trans children is between the child, their doctor, and parents. Adolescent children mature enough to understand gender affirming care must be able to access this care at the discretion of providers.

Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.

Strongly Agree

Medical care should be funded by the state, and the choice to pursue or not pursue medical intervention is solely between a person and their medical providers. Therefore, if a person desires, through their medical provider, to pursue gender transition services, this should be publicly funded as any other medical procedure should be.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am an atheist and do not have spiritual beliefs.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

Photo identification is not necessary in an already heavily decentralized voting system that effectively tracks residents and voters. It only serves to hinder voting by people who may not have a photo ID at the time they register to vote.

The Electoral College should be abolished.

Strongly Agree

EQUALITY

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Strongly Agree

Our country was founded on genocide and slavery of peoples based on race. Racist policies were embedded in our Constitution, and later in case law (Dred Scott, Plessy v. Ferguson). We have never had formal reparations for those crimes, and disparate impacts as a result of merely being a different race still unfortunately exist.

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Strongly Disagree

Trans and non-conforming people are needed in all aspects of society. A resilient, inclusive society systemically embraces freedom of expression. As such, we oppose any efforts to marginalize trans and gender non-conforming people from society. Trans people must not be removed from sports, schools or anywhere cis (non trans) people are allowed.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.

Strongly Agree

It is one of the most important issues of our, or any, time.

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

Currently it is probably natural gas, due to it being plentiful in the US, and its versatility as an energy source. However, I would move to decentralized solar and wind with batteries for storage to compensate for non-sunny and non-windy conditions.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Liberal

I am a socialist

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

Government should represent the democratic desires of all people and provide basic goods and services for all.

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No.

JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY

The Supreme Court should be reformed to include more seats.

Strongly Agree

Trump's judicial picks misled the US Senate during confirmation proceedings when they said Roe v. Wade was precedent and law of the land. After confirmation, those Justices in Dobbs said Roe was wrong when it was decided. Therefore, to restore the credibility of the US Senate Supreme Court confirmation process, and reduce the influence of those who got confirmed through misleading the Senate, we need Justices confirmed who will offset those Justices that misled the Senate.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.

Strongly Agree

We need to emphasize restorative justice and rehabilitation for public safety instead of criminalization and incarceration.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

It depends on the state. However, effective restrictions on gun ownership are close to impossible due to the Supreme Court's recent second amendment rulings. Therefore, I would support the repeal of the 2nd amendment to allow the federal government and state governments the ability to regulate gun ownership consistent with those state's views of public safety.
