RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
All abortions should be decriminalized and codified into our constitution. The decision for an abortion should be made with the individual seeking the abortion and their medical providers if they feel the need to seek medical advice. The government should not be involved in any medical decisions.
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Disagree
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards at the FDA level. However, I do not believe we need to require a doctors appointment for someone to make a family planning decision, nor should we make special requirements for follow-ups or reporting post abortion. Unless we will be requiring every patient who takes ANY drug approved by the FDA to report all reactions and outcomes, then we should not make special regulations for one group of drugs approved by the FDA.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Disagree
All medical care should be included in any federal, state or local government funding, including Title X grants. There should be no exceptions for specific types of medical care.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Agree
Like abortion, it is a personal decision that should be made with an individual and their medical care providers. If aid in dying laws do come up within my term, I will support such a bill as long as other social safety nets are in place. We must not fail our constituents by failing to provide them with their basic human rights, but then offering them death instead of social service safety nets. My biggest hesitation is our disabled communities not getting necessary medical support to stay here.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
This question is biased towards one religious group. I believe the government has the ability to close ANY religious building open to the public if that building is found to be unsafe, harboring criminals, or repeatedly violating the law or tax code regulations. Additionally, if there is a public safety concerns, temporarily closing spaces and limiting hours open would be reasonable as religion is a deeply personal experience and is not tied to a specific building accessible to the public.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Agree
Religions is a personal choice and affects the individual practicing that religion. If their religion says they cannot do a job, then it is up to the individual to not go into those positions/fields. Anyone who uses their religion to discriminate is violating the law and should be removed from that position. We do not make laws based on one religion. We make laws for EVERYONE here. Individuals can choose less public jobs and not serve the public at all if they cannot serve all of the public.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Neutral
I believe the State of Israel poses a much higher risk to our military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States than China ever will. AIPAC is a PAC ran by and with ties to a foreign government that has infiltrated nearly every elected official in our country at the state level or higher. We should not allow another country to have this much influence over our elections and where our tax dollars go. Israel is a welfare state draining our resources.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
It is vital that the United States end its relationship with Israel expeditiously. We cannot support a nation that has been charged with war crimes. Netanyahu should have been seized and handed over to The Hague as soon as he step foot on American soil. Our legacy cannot be helping to slaughter families in one of the oldest Christian churches in the holy land. The genocide in Gaza has been live streamed for 10 months and the younger generations demand justice. We demand justice for Palestine.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc. Healthcare is a human right. We are the ONLY developed nation in the world to not provide this basic human right back to our citizens. If we are the greatest nation in the world, then why can we not provide the most basic of human rights to our people? Medical debt should not be a leading cause of bankruptcy in America.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Vaccines that are approved by the FDA and related to public health crisis should be required with a medical exception for those who cannot take them and certain religious exemptions.
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Disagree
We are seeing large corporations buying up private property - including singling family homes - and raising the cost of housing so much that many families cannot even afford to buy their first home. That is harming our economy, our families, and our future. To have a productive economic system, the system needs to work for families and individuals, not just corporations. I am a big proponent of the Landback initiative to give public lands back to Indigenous tribes to steward.
What is your position on the minimum wage?
The minimum wage was designed to provide a livable wage so all could afford housing, food, medical, and their basic need. Now, there is no where in this country where one can work minimum wage and still afford housing. It needs raised.
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
Yes
Yes. Every law passed, every decision made by the government should first and foremost consider ESG. It is the duty of the government to look out for and protect the interests of the general public, not shareholders, CEOs, and private corporate interests. We are in the middle of a climate crisis with the hottest summer on record, the hottest ocean temperatures on record, and last October flowers were blooming in Antarctica. Environmental impacts need to take priority over corporate profit.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Disagree
The U.S. should do more to prevent de-stabilization in Central and Southern America. If the U.S. would stop destabilizing those regions, there would not be a need for families to flee to our border for safety. The border is a very small problem compared to the housing crisis, the lack of food, clean drinking water, and the needs of our people. Undocumented immigrants pay in taxes, work necessary jobs, and keep our country running. We should be providing a legal pathway to citizenship for them.
EDUCATION
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.
Strongly Disagree
A country is only as strong as it's education systems. Defunding public education is detrimental to our entire country. Public tax dollars should NEVER go to ANY private religious institution unless that religious institution pays taxes. Similar to healthcare, education is a basic human right. We are the ONLY developed country to strip this basic human right- education - away from our constituents. Religion is a personal choice, not the governments. Public dollars need to be used for the public.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Strongly Agree
There is no reason the police department has to take calls for mental health crisis or non-emergency situations. Cops have too much on their plate, not enough training, and are expected to handle too many different situations to ever be properly prepared for all of them. We need to alleviate this overburdened department and get them outside help from various other departments and new programs that will help serve our communities and give the cops a break. Social safety nets help keep cops safe.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
We need common sense gun laws, universal background checks, and violent offenders - especially anyone with a history of enacting domestic violence should be banned from owning any type of gun. We do not need more guns - we need gun control. Just like we don't let just anyone get in a car a drive away - there should be common sense regulations around owning a gun.
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
No
No adult should be carrying a gun around kids in a public setting regularly. Gun violence is the number one cause of death for youth in America. The Uvalde School Shooting proved that there could be over 300 "good guys with guns" but our kids will still be murdered. A teacher's job is to teach not to take up arms. We do not need more guns around kids - we need our citizens to have their basic human rights met and a society that offers safety nets to those in need.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No I have not.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No I have not.
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
The purpose of the government is to serve and protect it's people and the public interest.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Liberal
Leftist would be more accurate. I believe in making laws that are good for everyone and benefit the public. We pay a lot of taxes in this country, from federal, to state, to property and sales taxes, yet we give our citizens virtually nothing in return for all of those taxes. Our infrastructure is crumbling, our public education is defunded, housing is unaffordable, and most cannot afford a doctor, we lack clean drinking water and food. We need basic human rights for everyone.
VALUES
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Strongly Agree
Adult supremacy is a huge issue here in America. We view children not as humans, but as property. It is vital that children are protected from indoctrination, sex cults, and religious pressures to become child brides, reproduce, or in any other way have their sex life discussed with anyone outside of the family home. Child marriage is still legal in 80% of the country. We need to address this and protect those children from forced reproduction, religious grooming and harmful gender ideology.
Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.
Agree
Children are human beings with bodily autonomy and should be treated as such. Any decisions made without a minor's consent that will harm or alter that minor should be banned. We let minors sign up for the military with parental consent - we should let them do what is right for them in a way that is healthy and safe for them. Things like conversion therapy and forced marriage should not be legal in the U.S.
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Strongly Agree
Yes, all medical care should be funded through public health services, as well as all gender affirming care. This includes things like, hair regrowth and transplant surgeries, Viagra, birth control, all hormones including estrogen for post menopausal adults and help with low testosterone. Gender affirming care is always given with an age-appropriate, evidence-based way, and has been used by many adults for decades. We publicly funded Viagra, that should mean Viagra is free to the public.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Strongly Disagree
Marriage is not only a religious practice. It is a legally binding contract. It affects health insurance, mortgages, credit lines, last rights, inheritance, etc. It cannot be considered a strictly religious practice. If marriage was strictly a religious practice, then there would be no governmental contract, lawyers, nor court interference. But there are, because marriage is a legal contract and children should not be allowed to enter into such contracts, even with their parent's consent.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I was baptized and raised Lutheran. I believe in the teachings of Jesus Christ, that all humans are valuable and deserve their basic human rights. That no human is beneath or superior to another. I believe in taking care of all people, not just the ones with money, not just the business owners, not just the people in one church. We are one with nature, and should not be carelessly destroying the very gift we were given on this earth - the gift of nature to provide for us. Our clean air and drinking water that has been polluted by the corporate greed of a few. I believe we have seen religion be used as a weapon against the very things Jesus stood for. An example- bombing the homeland Jesus and his churches in the name of self defense.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Agree
Until every person has access to a free photo identification card - it should not be a barrier to participating in democracy. We can not hold our elections hostage behind a paywall. That is not democracy, that is fascism.
States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.
Strongly Agree
Democracy works when everyone as a voice. There should be no Electoral College interference with our elections. Every person should have a vote and every vote should count.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Yes racism is a threat to domestic security in the United States because it is a threat to American citizens. Anything that is a threat to American citizens is a domestic security threat. Institutional racism has led us to have the highest prison population in the world. We must eliminate the for-profit prison industrial complex and free the next generations from racism. Racism harms everyone - including the people who appear to benefit from it the most. It has no place in our society.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Agree
This is not an opinion; this is factual history. We serve no one when we hide the truth from the next generations. Violence, death, destruction, and ethnic cleansing are part of our history. We need to teach it to understand it and how to make amends as a country. Every citizen deserves basic human rights. We have so many laws based just on keeping Black people safe from White people. It's past time we start teaching why, stop the violence, and pay reparations.
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Disagree
I trust individuals to know who they are more than anyone else does. Biologically there are too many sequences of chromosomes for anyone to be able to look at another person and be able to tell their exact chromosomes make up. This question conflates gender with sex and is biased. 1-2% of the population is born intersex they do not fall in this made-up gender binary of male or female. We need to stop trying to categorize people so that we can discriminate against them. Transwomen are women.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.
D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action. The data is there - if we do not take immediate steps to ensure our planet's survival then no company will be able to make a profit at all.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
I do not believe there is ONE solution. Corporate interests may try to convince us there is only one solution, but people are innovative. I do know the solution must not come at the expense of more indigenous lives lost nor more broken treaties.
