QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

I believe one can be "pro-life" and "pro-choice" simultaneously. Each set of circumstances is unigue to the woman's situation and I cannot make that decision for another. However, I believe it should not be used as a form of birth control and medical consultation should always be a part of the decision process. There are unending considerations to the abortion issue that require discussion rather than a knee-jerk response.

Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.

Agree

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Neutral

If viewed as a medical procedure, very similar to other medical procedures that receive funding from the government (pre and post-natal care as an example when on government-funded/subsidized programs) - then yes. There are many caveats to this question to consider - abortion is not a one-dimensional issue.

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Strongly Agree

Having been witness to the unending suffering of loved ones, I support assisted suicide once a terminal outcome has been medically determined. I believe it to be a personal decision of individual rights allowing for dignity of the dying person.

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Neutral

Both are essential to productive economics but other factors should also be included in the determination: how do both pieces affect a neighborhood - will impact be negative or positive; will it improve quality of life and property values; is it sustainable for long-term growth; does it have the financial support and patronage of the surrounding community?

What is your position on the minimum wage?

Minimum wage should be connected to cost of living. Rrecognizing industries historically providing temporary/short-term employment were not meant to be permanent/long-term employment. No one can survive on a weekly salary of $200/week gross!

Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?

Choose not to answer

Investing public monies should be transparent and free of any bias-related criteria.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

If we truly have a separation of Church and State then we must hold that separation! We cannot pick and choose when the standard conveniently applies to what is wanted in a given moment. Other regulations will apply if laws are being broken.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Neutral

When directly connected to a moral or religious entity (i.e. a church bookstore, PRIDE subsidiary) they can determine who they serve. When that affiliation does not exist, they must serve the public equally.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

B. I believe we should be looking at the health insurance industry. Insurers determine both premium and medical costs that are passed to the individual. Profits should be capped and possibly re-directing monies exceeding the cap to local medical care?

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

Schools have required vaccines for decades. Unless medically not advised vaccines can retard the spread of disease, epidemics and pandemics. It then becomes a public health and safety issue.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Neutral

My focus is on district issues first and state issues second. This is a federal issue however, we should always be aware of and ready to respond as a state should that become necessary.

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

We are a country of immigrants. We cannot act against one faction at the risk of hurting or offending another. For our country's protection and worldwide, we can and should address attacks from terrorism.

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Strongly Agree

I am of a generation when immigrants adhered to a process to enter the United States; sponsorship, personal financial stability, and more. Asylum - a rare word in our vocabulary and the news - was sought for highly impactful circumstances such as government persecution of an individual. It was not sought because a loaf of bread was too expensive, a gang lived in your neighborhood, or your government was inadequate. And even then there was a process to follow.

EDUCATION

The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.

Strongly Agree

When placing a child in a private school - your tax paid to public schools is not removed/reduced. Parents should receive at least a partial refund/deduction on their tax returns to offset the cost of private, quality education for their children. In the meantime public schools in general need to hit the mark on academics so parents don't feel the need to place their children in alternative educaton.

VALUES

Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.

Agree

What we expose and teach our children should be age-appropriate. In an ideal world, it would always be delivered without bias or prejudice. I also recognize and respect each family's right to determine what is appropriate for them .

Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.

Agree

Providing each child is safe from harm, parents should be involved in the decision process. In circumstances where a child feels unable to include the appropriate family member(s), help is available through other faciities such as school counselors/advisors who can reach out to additional support and mediators.

Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.

Disagree

Not unless and until health care is available to ALL Minnesotans!

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Disagree

Again we have a separation of Church and State: what a church determines as a God-ordained union is different from what a state determines as a legal union. Some churches do not accept consumption of alcoholic beverages. However, we do not make alcoholic beverages illegal as a result of a church dictem.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

One's spiritualism is a very private matter. I was raised Lutheran and converted to Catholicism decades ago. As a Christian, I believe in a higher power to be my guide. I have traveled to Christian, Muslim, and Buddhist countries. I respect the right of each individual to worship their higher power as they deem appropriate for them and I hold no judgments regarding the belief system of others.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

Minnesota is issuing licenses to undocumented individuals that are visually identical to those of eligible voters. Anyone wanting to exercise their voting rights should have to provide independent documentation of their status and eligibility to do so. A photo I.D. is the least of what should be required to vote. It is appalling that I can walk into my polling location and give a name and address to be cleared. What if a block member came in with that information instead of me?!?

States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.

Neutral

I see the merit of a popular election but then consider the population differences from state to state. How do we/do we equalize those differences? The Electoral College was developed by our Founders with foresight in mind. I am not confident it is broken enough to to remove or replace it.

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

We are all a threat to domestic security. Racism is emotional for many - without regard to the side you stand on. We can educate the emotional away, but we cannot legislate it away. No one is responsible for what their ancestors did in previous generations, cultures, or societal norms. We cannot forget where we came from so we know where our path is taking us. We must move forward with open minds and hearts for all differences. That is when we are no longer a domestic threat to ourselves.

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Neutral

I do not know enough about this to be able to answer the question at this time. I will come back to it once i better understand the subject.

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Agree

If an individual has transgendered then they should be allowed to use facilities appropriate to their new gender. Although not all but many public facilities now offer unisex options I see this as a lesser problem than in previous years. As more data becomes available, we need to review and address methods to level the sports aspect of the issue.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.

A, C, D: We need to balance our ability to produce with minimal impact on the environment and also sustain a healthy economy. Each year we see how climate change affects our seasons, we cannot continue to live in denial.

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

In Minnesota - SOLAR. But it needs to be far more affordable to install. Subsidies - not grants, will be needed to make the transformation, especially for seniors on fixed incomes.

ABOUT YOU

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

To provide a safe and healthy environment for the constituency, while finding ways to maintain a stable economy

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Moderate

I have passions at both ends of the spectrum but remain financially conservative and common sense. Never having declared a party until this year., I would consider myself a common-sense republican.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.

Strongly Disagree

Police are dedicated to preserving the safety of our communities. The George Lloyd events opened eyes to what needs to be done to preserve the integrity of law enforcement and I stand by them. These highly trained professionals have the knowledge and skills to make the decisions that community programs do not possess.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

Producing mental health records, longer waiting periods (30 days), substantiation to own high-powered repeating weapons, carriers mandated to be signed off at a range/PD by qualified personnel at least once a year or every six months. I am a lifelong hunter/gun owner and firmly believe if you have nothing to hide-you hide nothing. Most carriers will never encounter circumstances requiring them to use their weapon and most often will escalate/endanger a police officer at a scene

Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?

No

The possibility of the weapon getting into the wrong hands, an emotionally immature teen or younger person, or becoming a volatile incident is way too high!
