RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
A woman and her doctor need to be the ones who decide if an elective abortion is necessary. When a woman of any age is raped or has a non-viable fetus that endangers her health, laws with no exceptions are simply cruel.

Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Neutral
If an abortion drug has a high rate of side effects or safety issues, then an in-person consultation may be needed. If an abortion drug has a low rate of side effects or safety issues, then it should be available over the counter.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Disagree
Planned Parenthood services are approximately 85 to 90% cancer screenings and 3% abortion services. For the sake of women's health, Planned Parenthood should receive taxpayer funds and grants to provide services that women could not afford elsewhere.

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Strongly Agree
Death with dignity should be an option for people with a terminal medical condition that a doctor validates. Forcing people to live in intense pain for months with no real quality of life while they slowly die is not compassionate.

ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
Free enterprise allows people to create a business, follow their dreams, support their children, and is a path to home ownership and owning private property for many people. Free enterprise allows motivated people to help solve the problems that keeps our economy productive and at the forefront of innovation.

What is your position on the minimum wage?
The minimum wage is essential to ensuring that workers are compensated with a living wage and needs to be adjusted annually to keep pace with inflation. The state should set a statewide standard that local counties may increase where necessary.

Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
Yes
Turning an intentional blind eye to the environmental impact of business decisions is irresponsible, creates a flawed analysis that doesn't take into account all costs, and leaves our children with even larger problems to solve. All environmental and social issues need to be fully considered to make an honest evaluation and the best long choice.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
None that I know of. If there is an eminent domain issue regarding property at a specific location, then the same rules for compensation apply equally to churches as for individuals. Freedom of religion protects churches from being a target of government persecution.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Disagree
Individuals and private businesses have a right to refuse to serve people. This differs from government employees who are absolutely required to lawfully serve the public regardless of any moral or religious beliefs the worker may have.

HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
B. A government option plan with defined benefits should be available to set the standard for health plans and any number of private option plans that offer their own benefit choices and price points should also be available. This provides choice without forcing people into a 'one size fits all' plan.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Vaccines with long term documented safety records such as polio, measles, smallpox, etc. can and should be required for school or some employers. Vaccines without a long-term safety record or under an emergency authorization should not be required.

NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
China aggressively pursues its own interests which benefit from degrading our military capabilities, taking advantage of our cyber security deficiencies, and stealing intellectual property for its own economic benefit. Strengthening the security of all our computer systems should remain a top priority to defend against their advanced persistent threat.

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
The United States has a very important role in trying to establish and maintain peace in the Middle East. With the United States selling billions of dollars in weapons to Israel, our decisions have significant consequences for how both diplomacy and the military are used to address the problems in the region.

IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
The bipartisan border legislation that would have funded additional border agents, technology improvements, and streamlined the asylum process can and should be enacted.

EDUCATION
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.
Disagree
Public dollars should only fund educational programs that meet the same public educational standards regardless of the type of school. Allowing public tax dollars to flow to private or charter schools that do not meet the same educational standards hurts children, especially when poorly run charter schools abruptly close in the middle of the school year. When public dollars flow away from public schools, it weakens the public education system for every student that remains.

VALUES
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Strongly Agree
Children must absolutely be protected from sexual, physical, or emotional abuse and remain safe from grooming by sexual predators. A child's sexual identity and related issues are best handled on an individual basis by their family.

Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.
Strongly Agree
Our custody and paternity laws often unfairly exclude fit, willing, and able parents from being equal participants in their children's lives. While the Supreme Court of the United States has recognized that “the liberty interest…of parents in the care, custody, and control of their children is perhaps the oldest of the fundamental liberty interests recognized by [the] Court.”, many unmarried parents have no legal custody or the ability to make decisions for their children by default.

Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Neutral
Affordable health care plan options should be available to individuals who need gender transition services.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Strongly Disagree
Consenting adults should have every legal protection to love and marry the person of their choice. A number of religious denominations feel differently about this issue and the government needs to respect the freedom of these differences. One religious perspective should not be legally imposed on every individual.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Agree
Mail in ballot voting does not and should not require photo identification. A voter signs the ballot under penalty of perjury and fraudulent ballots should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law to deter fraud and ensure the integrity of our elections.

States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.
Strongly Agree
The winner of the United States presidential election should be the candidate that wins the popular vote. The electoral college distorts our politics and creates an incentive for candidates to only focus on battleground states that have an outsized influence to elect candidates. Every voter should be equally important in deciding the winner.

EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
The Southern Poverty Law Center has documented hundreds of domestic extremist groups in the United States with many of those founded on racist ideals. The goal of many of these groups is to conduct terrorist attacks to accelerate a race war. These 'accelerationists' pose a threat to society as they seek to create a cycle of violence by targeting groups likely to retaliate.

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Neutral
I do not believe that every institution in the United States is fundamentally racist. There have been many racist laws that have had long lasting and systemic impacts on groups of people. One example is the 'redlining' laws that prevented minority groups from home ownership in advantaged neighborhoods. The long-term impacts of denying children from growing up in good neighborhoods with good schools impacts those families for generations.

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Neutral
Trans women should be able to participate in society as women without undue legal persecution and fear. Biological males posing as women to gain immoral access to women's bathrooms, locker rooms, and other private spaces can and should be prosecuted under current laws. Dangerous situations are created when trans women are forced to use male bathrooms resulting in significant confusion and otherwise avoidable conflict.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.
D - Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action because there is no economy on a dead planet. We need to protect our environment because a world in which our glaciers melt, oceans rise, and coastal areas flood will force an estimated 630 million people to migrate by the year 2100. Competition for the remaining land resources will result in worldwide geopolitical instability. Our reliance on fossil fuels will force our descendants to face the worst of the predicted consequences.

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
Solar paired with the advanced batteries being developed. Each home with a sunny roof can produce 5 to 10 megawatt hours of power annually. Putting solar on half of WA residential homes would be the equivalent of building four nuclear power plants.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Moderate
I state no party preference and believe I can be considered moderate because there are some aspects of the Democrat, Libertarian, and Republican platforms that I can agree with.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Disagree
I do not support reducing police funding overall because our police are already understaffed and do not respond to many types of property crimes and theft. I do question any funding that provides surplus military equipment or trains local police departments in military tactics and techniques. Our local peace keeping police forces need additional funding for community resource officers and ongoing training to safely de-escalate situations which will increase public safety.

2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Background checks on all gun purchases should be required to ensure guns are not purchased by felons, fugitives, mentally ill, or other prohibited people. Legal gun owners may have their weapons temporarily seized if an "extreme risk protection order" determines they are danger to themselves or others. Gun owners found unsafely storing or handling weapons should need to attend and pass a state approved and court mandated training program to teach gun safety to reduce the risk of accidents.

Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
No
Police trained school resource officers should have access to firearms. The risk of accidents increases with untrained and/or inexperienced teachers mishandling or losing control of a firearm. Putting guns in thousands of classrooms will result in more guns being used in more circumstances and resulting in more shootings.
