QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
The decision to have an abortion is a very private and personal one. This decision should also be left to a woman and her doctor. The government should have no say whatsoever in this process. This would allow a woman to have an abortion as any time.
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Neutral
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Disagree
Insurance, whether private or governmental, should cover these procedures as they are medical procedures in as much as they would any other elective procedure.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Strongly Agree
Every person should have the right to die with dignity. Both my mother-in law and my own father decided it was time for them to pass. One stopped taking her medication and the other wanted to move on to see his wife of nearly 60 years. No one wants to become a burden to their children. everyone should be able to make those choices.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
I'm not sure a government has the right to close a church, unless it can be proven to be training terrorists. We do offer religious freedom in the US.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Agree
If a business sells items to the public, then they should not be allowed to discriminate which public they serve.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Agree
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
Absolutely. Israel is a very powerful ally in the Middle East. Our relationship with Israel has always been important.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
B - Healthcare should be a right to all Americans, but I do believe we should have private options available if desired.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
One of the basic functions of the government is to protect its citizens. If protection mean that everyone be vaccinated to prevent the spread of disease and harm to others, then so be it.
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Agree
What is your position on the minimum wage?
Our current minimum wage is way past due for an update. In 1968, minimum wage was $1.60/hour. In purchasing power, that would be equivalent to about $14.00/hour today. The current minimum wage of $7.25 is equivalent to just over $10/hour.
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
Choose not to answer
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Agree
Physically, we have some fences and walls that have been damaged or destroyed over the years and they should be repaired/replace. Additionally, we should also look to other areas where access is easily made and place new structure there.
EDUCATION
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.
Strongly Disagree
Public funds should always remain public. If a parent choses to homeschool or send their child to private school, that is their choice. But, my tax dollars should not go to subsidize them. If there is a mass call for better schools, then we should fix the public school system. We cannot take funds away from public schools then ask them to do better. This also removes funds that would otherwise pay teacher's salaries. Teachers in WV rank 48th in pay. How do we hire and retain great teachers then?
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Disagree
The police need all the funds they are given, and more. I believe there are other community programs that can work hand-in-hand with the police department, but those programs need their own funding.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
When gunshot has become the #1 cause of death in kids, we have to admit, there is a gun problem in this country. But, I am an advocate for the 2nd Amendment. There are a lot of very smart people in this country. And America has never been unable to solve a problem when we put these smart minds together. However, we have to eliminate the all-or-nothing attitude of many American. Some few any attempt at regulation to be an assault on freedoms. There is a solution. we just haven't found it yet!
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
No
While i am a 2nd Amendment advocate, putting guns in the hands of amateurs and expecting them to protect our kids is idiotic. What we need are more Resource Officers - police that are stationed in the schools.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
NO
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
NO
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
The purpose of government is to provide a framework for people to live together in peace. To establish laws to protect our rights, and to maintain order and provide security. Government should also promote the general welfare of the people by providing services, such as schools, resource management and infrastructure. It is also charged with establishing a system of justice, making sure all resident are treated equally, It also establishes a military to protect us from foreign attack.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Lean Liberal
Most of my friends would say I'm moderate with left tendencies.
VALUES
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Neutral
Children must definitely be protected from abuse - physical, sexual, verbal and emotional. But when it comes to gender ideology, it depends on your definition of "protected". If this means that they cannot discuss their feeling or ask questions, then this I strongly disagree. Gender dysphoria is a real thing. While I don't believe a child should undergo sex reassignment surgery before their 18th birthday, i do believe that the parents have the right to make decisions for their child.
Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.
Agree
Some argue that parents have absolute right to make decisions for their child and can therefore refuse to vaccinate their child as the school requires. Those same parents, however, believe that that right stops when it comes to gender affirming care. Others think that parents have the right to provide gender affirming care, but have no right to refuse vaccinations. You can't have it both ways. I believe the parent has the absolute right to make ALL decisions for their minor children.
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Agree
Public funds should not be used unless the funds are for public employee insurance (Public employee insurance, Medicaid or Medicare) . Then these procedures should be paid just as if they were any other service provided - subject to deductibles and co-pays.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Strongly Disagree
Marriage is a legal contract. God and religion, while they play their part, have no right to disallow anyone their right to love and marry who they chose.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am not a religious person, however I live by the principles and values most would call Christian. Some of the rules I follow are: Honor your elders. Treat everyone kindly. Obey the law. Don't lie cheat or steal. Love everyone and learn from our differences. If everyone would follow those simple rules, our world would be a better place in spite of religion.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Neutral
I believe in today's world, everyone should be able to get a photo ID. I also believe that a photo ID should be free. We should not create barriers to obtain proof of our own identity.
States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.
Disagree
The Electoral College was created so that every state would have equal representation in our election process. If we were to remove this balance, then every president would be elected by the people of California and New York.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
YES! Racism is a threat to everything in our society. From getting a job, or getting accepted onto the right college, or being able to purchase or rent in the neighborhood of your choice. Terrorists come in all colors, religions, socio-economic backgrounds, and locations.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Agree
CRT, as taught in law schools and other college classes demonstrates how, over the years, our laws have been skewed by racism. One doesn't have to go back very far to see the "whites only" rules that we in place and enforced. CRT is NOT simply teaching about the Civil War and the racism that preceded it and has followed. Unfortunately, CRT has become a dog whistle for these thoughts.
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Neutral
This is a difficult question. My belief has always been that people can do anything that they want, until it harms another. I never thought that anyone would become "trans" simply to win a contest. But I seem to be wrong. There have been a few unscrupulous males who have transitions to female only to win. In this case, their action has harmed another. While I profess that i do not have the answer to this, I believe we can solve this issue if we can brush away our prejudice and work together.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.
B and D
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
Currently, I think nuclear energy to be the most reliable. But I also think that we have not discovered the real answer yet.
