QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Disagree
The decision to have an abortion is both difficult and deeply personal that the government has no business dictating. The voters have shown their support for abortion rights through the string of special elections since Roe vs. Wade was overturned. Banning abortions only serves to create more Democrats, and besides, Organizations such as Planned Parenthood provide a huge number of services beyond abortion services, so defunding the program over them offering a legal service makes no sense.
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Neutral
This is a bad question. These drugs go through an in-person consultation with doctors and gather evidence on reactions during the drug's testing phase. No drug is sold without meeting these standards, and abortion drugs are no different.
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
During the first two trimesters.
Does the federal government have a role to play in limiting abortion, and if so what federal steps and/or federal legislation would you support?
The voters have already spoken. Every special election since Roe vs. Wade was overturned has gone to the party not trying to ban abortions. Its been made clear that if the federal government tries to limit abortions, that government will be voted out. Democracy is the will of the people.
ECONOMY
What actions would you take that would allow Americans to retain more of their income and wealth?
It has been proven that corporate profits increase more when families have more disposable income, so by shifting some of the tax burden from individuals to corporate profits, we can reduce the burden on Americans while increasing corporate profits.
Student loan forgiveness unfairly shifts the financial burden to those not responsible for student debt.
Agree
Student loans have slowly become a predatory market that charges exorbitant tuition while offering limited benefits at best. Those responsible for the debt are as much the lenders and universities as it is the students'. Simply forgiving the debt doesn't fix the problem.
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
Yes
Shifts in public opinion over the past couple of decades have shown that environmental and social issues have to at least be given some weight when deciding where to invest public monies. As with all aspects of governance, moderation and a cautious approach go a long way toward winning over voters.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
It means that the state can't influence the operation of the church and vice versa.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Agree
If a bakery can refuse to make a cake because it's for a gay wedding, then businesses and individuals could refuse to provide service to someone just because they are wearing a crucifix or cross. This is a Pandora's Box we should leave closed.
HEALTHCARE
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Public health is an important issue that shouldn't be politicized. Vaccinations are a vital part of keeping our country strong. Public confidence in vaccines has fallen due to lack of vetting and testing. More safety and tests could fix that image.
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
Americans should have more choices than anyone else when it comes to healthcare. Option B gives Americans the most options. If a person wants to keep their current private insurer, they are more than welcome to. Likewise, not all doctors would have to accept state-funded healthcare. Private insurance would offer their customers a larger pool of doctors to choose from, while the increase of government-funded insurance would reduce unpaid ER visits and thus help to keep costs down.
NATIONAL SECURITY
With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.
Option B would be my choice. If we intervene every single time, we're viewed internationally as bullies trying to impose our views on the world, but if we don't intervene, our enemies start making moves to undermine our influence on the world. We should intervene only when asked or when neccesary.
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
America has become too dependent on Chinese goods over the last few decades, creating a dangerous dependency on both parties. That coupled with recent increases in attacks on our counrty's cyber security as well as China's military friendship with Russia only serves to heighten the Chinese threat.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
Our relationship with Israel is important only so long as it is reciprocal. We cannot continue to provide Israel with money and weapons if they are going to completely ignore our counsel. A boss doesn't continue to pay an employee if they refuse to do their job, do they?
What are the causes of decline in U.S. military recruitment and retention?
Excessive military interventions push down recruitment and retention since no one wants to be constantly deployed. Lower interest in educational benefits has contributed, as has an increased public knowledge of military sexual assault as well as the poor support and treatment that veterans face upon separation. How about instead of simply forgiving student debt, we require service in the National Guard or other military organization?
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
The southern border has long been a weak spot for the transport of illegal drugs into the country. Now, rather than seeing mainly marijuana flowing across the border, we are facing a deadly fentanyl epidemic that can kill on contact.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
While we have long been a country of immigrants, we don't want to become a destination for criminals on the outs with their own country. Proper background checks and interviews would go a long way to weed out the undesirables while allowing dependable workers and craftsmen into the country legally.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Strongly Agree
Allowing people to have a choice of schools helps when you have a country that can't decide on what should and shouldn't be taught in school. It allows options that are more compatible with the desires of the parents than would be possible otherwise.
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Strongly Disagree
If you want federal funding, you have to meet federal standards. These standards are designed to ensure a certain level of knowledge on certain topics for entry into the accredited college system. There are already workarounds for this through the voucher program, private schools, and homeschooling options. While these options may present obstacles to college admissions, they are not insurmountable.
VALUES
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Neutral
Personal beliefs aside, fighting against gay marriage has pushed an entire demographic away, weakening the Republican party's voter base. If we push too many voters away, we don't win. It's as simple as that.
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Strongly Agree
Until a child turns 18, they are not considered responsible enough to make major life decisions for themselves. As such, we have a number of laws to protect children from a variety of abuses. While it is illegal for a minor to receive permanent body modifications in the form of tattoos and piercings, some people are pushing for gender transitioning to be the sole exception to these laws that protect children. If a person's gender identity is permanent, then waiting until 18 shouldn't be hard.
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Strongly Disagree
Gender transitioning is a choice, not a medical necessity.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I'm a Christian man who believes that each person's connection to God is a deeply personal one. I strive to be a good person, to help others, and to live my life by the teachings of Jesus.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
A Driver's Licence or ID requires multiple forms of non-picture ID, such as a birth certificate, as proof of ID. So, allowing multiple non-picture IDs in place of a photo ID would be an acceptable compromise for those few people who do not have a photo ID. But asking for Photo ID isn't asking for much. Here in Washington, the requirement for Photo ID is only when you register to vote or vote in person.
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Agree
Our country has been dedicated to spreading democracy around the globe for years. The Electoral College is a remnant from a time before we could count every vote that currently does more to undermine confidence in our democracy. Abolishing it would streamline the election process while increasing the strength of, and confidence in, our electoral system.
EQUALITY
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Neutral
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
The divisive argument being had isn't even the right one here. It's not really trans women that are the problem in these scenarios. The real issue we should be addressing is can you trust all straight, cisgender men? Can you trust male sex offenders not to wear a dress just for access? Can you trust male athletes not to identify as female just long enough to win an event? That's already happened by the way.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.
Strongly Agree
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
