QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
Elective abortions, which are separate from those deemed medically necessary to save the life of the mother, should not be allowed. This is obviously a controversial topic. I recommend for any still wrestling with it to watch the documentary “The 1916 Project.” It is both fascinating and troubling. The documentary is not a graphic movie on abortions themselves but, instead, tells the story fairly of how we got here.
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Choose not to answer
The question presupposes that chemical abortions are permissible by law without any question as to whether that can or should be changed.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Strongly Disagree
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What is your position on the minimum wage?
I align more closely with Milton Friedman and Thomas Sowell on this one. Also, in the public discourse today, we forget that there is value in a learning wage, not just a living wage.
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
No
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
It can't.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
Government has wrecked healthcare. One of the major issues is that we have created a system with individuals and organizations standing in-between those providing the service and those that need it. Thomas Sowell said “It is so easy to be wrong – and to persist in being wrong – when the costs of being wrong are paid by others.” The answer to the question above lies somewhere between C) and D) until we have restored a robust system of private charity in this space, one like we used to enjoy.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Government in a free society should not be permitted to require them. It should be up to the private citizens and up to parents to make those decisions.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Agree
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
Yes. Israel is an ally and a friend of the United States in a region that has long been hostile to liberty. They have a right to exist, a right to be free, and a right to live in peace even among others who have refused to recognize them. Following the atrocities of WWII, their nation, which is about the size of New Jersey, was created in a single day. They have been a close ally with us ever since that day in 1948, and they stand for freedom. We should continue to stand with them.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
EDUCATION
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.
Disagree
I am a strong proponent of educational freedom directed by parents, but I have serious concerns about the state funding of all education, which could in practice limit real choice. What the state funds, it soon controls. Without the right safeguards (constitutional and otherwise), funding education in this way could (and likely would) lead to more state control of curriculum and other school requirements, not freedom from them, impacting all students - public, private, and homeschool.
VALUES
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Strongly Agree
Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.
Strongly Agree
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Strongly Disagree
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Strongly Agree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
Christian
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.
Strongly Disagree
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Yes, it is a threat to domestic security when we enshrine racism in our laws as was done with the Jim Crow laws. It is a threat when we refuse to prosecute powerful private organizations that violently break the law against individuals, like the Ku Klux Klan did for decades. It is also a threat when we push in policy agendas that divide us by race as many of the current woke policies do in the name of ending racism. All of these threats are threats to individual liberty and justice for all.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.
We as a people have a duty to protect our environment and to be good stewards of our planet, both for ourselves and our posterity, but that’s often not at all what we are doing with “environmental laws and regulations.” As a result, I align closest to A and C.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
We should have a diversified approach that actually ensures energy security and best meets demand, especially in an insecure world. Here in Colorado, we have been blessed with natural gas and other reserves that are significant. We should use them.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
It is what President Ronald Reagan said in a speech in 1981: “Government’s first duty is to protect people, not run their lives.”
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Strongly Disagree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I think the U.S. Supreme Court was pretty close in its decision in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen.
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
Yes, but going back to educational freedom and the right of parents to direct the upbringing of their children, parents should have a right to know. They can then choose a school with teachers that carry or one where they do not as best fits the parents’ determination of what provides the best security for their children.
