RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Neutral
I believe in the Hyde amendment, but want to take this time to address a possible medical advancement that could offer a third option to unwanted pregnancies. If there was a safe medical procedure to save the life of the unborn, protecting both the mother and the viable baby, I believe this sort of planned parenthood should be subsidized by the government. Let’s fund research and development that could reduce the number of abortions in the United States.
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Neutral
Despite how people personally feel about the procedure, I believe abortions will occur whether we like it or not. That being said, chemical abortion drugs like Mifepristone are safer than alternative options. I do believe further study needs to be implemented, but want to ensure each patient’s right to privacy. If there is a “list” made of patients, I fear government retaliation against patients, depending on the political climate of each state.
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
In Florida, regardless of my personal belief, the Supreme Court is letting the voters decide if the current 6 week abortion ban will stay in effect. I believe the ballot initiative of Amendment 4 will tell us how the majority of voters feel on the issue of abortion. If elected, I plan to make decisions on behalf of the people of Florida, and they will let me know how they feel on November 5th.
Does the federal government have a role to play in limiting abortion, and if so what federal steps and/or federal legislation would you support?
I am, and will always be an advocate of a third option to abortion. If we can create a program that helps planned parenthood while limiting abortions, I believe pro-life and pro-choice advocates could stand behind this 21st century way of thinking. Abortion has been an age old question that a 40-year-old man like me doesn’t have a perfect answer to, but through innovation, collaboration, and mutual concessions, I believe we can forge a better way forward. I consider myself pro-life, but I do not want to be labeled as anti-choice. If a woman is given an option between terminating a pregnancy and a safe, cost effective program that protects her liberty while also protecting the growing life inside her, I think the majority of women would choose the latter. Our ancestors have fought over this issue since the beginning of time, and we have an advantage over them: Modern medicine, technological knowhow, and the will to protect the lives of the unborn.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
Separation of church & state is a founding principle of our nation. I use my faith to make personal choices, but do not demand my neighbor follow my belief system; forcing faith is wrong. The first Amendment says that “there shall be no law establishing a religion," giving each citizen the right to exercise their own beliefs, as long as those beliefs don’t infringe upon the rights of anyone else. I believe God gave us free will, and in the secular state, each of us have the choice to seek God.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Neutral
I do not believe in a license to discriminate, and in my experience with commerce, the customer is always right; the color of money is the same no matter who is paying for service. This practice is basic economics. When it comes to selling objectionable pharmaceuticals, private businesses should be able to decide whether or not they sell a product, as long as that decision isn’t based on discriminatory practices against specific consumers.
NATIONAL SECURITY
With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.
B. My grandfather flew on D-Day and continued on to fly over 60 missions in WWII. I believe it is our duty to the free world to stand up to tyranny. There will always be bullies on the proverbial playground, and to quote Stan Lee, “with great power comes great responsibility.” When autocrats and dictators feel emboldened, we should remind them to back off. The United States will always stand for freedom, and when our allies freedoms are threatened, we will be there to defend them.
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Neutral
The PRC are an economic powerhouse that doesn’t always play by the rules. I believe we should form healthy relationships with every nation, and call out wrong doings and impose sections when rules are broken; we do not want to seek worldwide conflicts with China or their allies. I believe if we focus on forging positive relationships, we can all benefit economically despite ideological differences.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
The world needs Israel, and the Jewish people deserve a homeland. Israel is the only democracy in the middle east, and they deserve safety and prosperity. There are many antisemitic forces in the world who would love to see the downfall of Israel, and we can never allow those forces to prevail. That being said, as a positive influence in the free world, we have a responsibility to call out wrong doings, and disprove of practices perpetrated by not only our adversaries, but also our allies.
What are the causes of decline in U.S. military recruitment and retention?
Many feel the risk outweighs the reward. Our nation should treat service members and veterans with the highest honors for putting their country above themselves. This should include education, the best mental health initiatives and healthcare benefits for service members and their families for the rest of their lives. If we don’t take care of our veterans, the recruitment and retention will continue to dwindle.
HEALTHCARE
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
The government should not mandate vaccinations. When I began school I was required to be vaccinated, the other option was homeschooling. I stand on the side of safety to protect vulnerable neighbors, but will always defend someones right to refuse.
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
B. I believe we should also have more options than privatized healthcare in the market place. As a theater professional, I look to how non-profit theater has helped foster positive, cost effective competition, and I believe when we put the needs of the people over the profit of the few, everyone benefits. If we promote good, non-profit healthcare centers, we can care for more people, while simultaneously lowing healthcare prices of through free market competition.
ECONOMY
What actions would you take that would allow Americans to retain more of their income and wealth?
“Nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” At present, there is an inequity in the payment of taxes, and I believe the top 1% should pay their fair share. This allows the majority of average Americans to keep more of their income.
Student loan forgiveness unfairly shifts the financial burden to those not responsible for student debt.
Disagree
I owe $17k in student loans, and the forgiveness program has not helped me one bit. There are many my age who are unable to afford homes or start families while the student loan industry profits; this is not the student's fault. The extreme inflation of college tuition in the late 20th and early 21st century has put an unfair burden on the those who sought higher learning. We spent $167 billion to help student loans in 2023, and those consumers are infusing those funds back into the economy.
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
Yes
In school, if you did not pass examinations, the grade reflects areas of improvement. Investing in companies that have terrible ESG ratings would be the equivalent of choosing a valedictorian based on a popularity contest; such an act would remove any merits from the accolade. Also, If a movie gets a low Rotten Tomato’s score, it makes me less likely to see that movie. If a company gets a low ESG score, why should they get tax payer money? Adjust accordingly.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
We need Congress to legislate comprehensive solutions to the southern border including the creation of more processing centers, and funding more border personnel. Illegal crossings are outnumbering those trying to come into our country the right way, and ignoring the problem only makes the crisis worse. We need to fix this issue at the top, by electing Congressmen and women who will act instead of sitting on their hands creating stubborn political theater.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
If elected, I’d advocate for a comprehensive system that would be able to conduct background checks on immigrants who wish to come into the United States. Right now, our do-nothing Congress is letting anyone in, and we have no idea who they are. If we work closely together with other countries, sharing interagency information, we can work to prevent violent criminals and anyone associated with terrorist cells from coming into our country.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Disagree
School choice is important, but I don’t believe funds should be taken away from public school to send kids to private institutions. I went to a private University, and I’ve received $0 in student loan forgiveness. I stand by my support for public schools because these institutions need advocates at the top level. Voucher programs threaten their funding, essentially making private institutions semi-public with public funds. Choosing private school for your child is a personal investment.
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Strongly Disagree
I believe the Department of Education is essential to help promote student achievement and equal access to educational excellence. There is already a divide between state educational programs, and the Department of Education helps keep our country on an even playing field. The United States ranks 13th in global education, and only by working together can we gain even higher achievements. In local communities, between banning books and intransigent culture wars, schools need national standards.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Neutral
Let’s prioritize blue funds AND support community programs. A lot of pressure is put on police officers; they put their lives on the line each day while also balancing an expectation to embody mental health professionals. Can we integrate and improve the complexities of policing by bringing in a variety of other civil service professionals? Incarcerating individuals often sends folks on a downward spiral, and community programs offer positive off-ramps to help prevent crime. The goal is safety.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Every law abiding member of our community has the right to bear arms, AND every citizen has protection from unreasonable search and seizures of their property. I believe we should reward extra safety measures taken by individuals who can prove to be responsible gun owners, and deter those who wish to break the law with stricter punishments.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
The Supreme Court should be reformed to include more seats.
Strongly Disagree
I do not believe packing the Supreme Court would solve anything: I think that sort of change could get out of hand, and more structure is needed in that very important branch of government. I do believe in term limits, 25 years is more than enough time to sit on the bench. I believe having a healthy flux of judicial minds would help our nation, instead of insisting on stale lifelong appointments.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Lean Conservative
We live in the Great Perception, an abstract idea describing the polarized echo chambers that divides us. I want to ask Florida how much “make believe," they want with their politicians. Some voters will believe literally anything regardless of facts and evidence, this is dangerous. I think we all need to look in the mirror and ask ourselves what sort of representatives we want in government; is that someone who lies and cheats? I promise to always act from a place of integrity.
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
Government supports freedoms, and protects it’s citizens from those who inflict harm. Using a fair and balanced system where nobody is above the law, government should act as a service to the people, allowing prosperity of it’s citizens to flourish. The government’s job is to intervene when the law has been broken, punishing accordingly, and establishing deterrents to help mitigate more attempts at unlawful actions; this protects bad things from happening to innocent people.
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No, I have not. I have a question for the general public, does this sort of thing matters to voters in the 2024 election?
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No, I have not. And I have another question for my conservative constituents: If I were convicted of a felony, would that make you more likely or less likely vote for me?
VALUES
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Disagree
God is Love, and Love is Love.
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Agree
Kids learn what we teach them. If we teach hate, they will learn it. If we teach facts are fictions, they will not have a firm grasp on reality; and there are political movements at present working to blur the lines between reality and fictions. I believe we should let kids be kids. We shouldn't influence kids one way or another on complex adult concepts of sex or gender fluidity. A child's life & personality shouldn’t be determined by a committee of confused adults.
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Strongly Disagree
I do not believe tax payers should pay for transition services.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a God fearing Christian who believes in a supportive, loving family, and a safe, vibrant community. I believe love is more powerful than hate, and Jesus was brought to Earth to teach us about the power of forgiveness. I believe the Earth is round, science is real, and nobody (except Jesus,) is perfect. I trust God influences each of us, but it is our choice to heed God’s word. I renounce hate, and believe the pen is mightier than the sword. I believe the power of democracy is what will keep our republic strong, despite the politicians who get things wrong. I believe the deceiver is a dangerous being who interrupts, corrupts, and we should be aware of his nature. On election day, we should trust God’s voice so we make the right choice.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
I believe we need double verification when voting in person, and a photo ID, along with a matching signature ensures someone is who they say they are in order to prevent voter fraud.
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Disagree
If we were to make changes, we should start slow. I feel politics would change drastically if we abolished the Electoral College. The founders were wary of a pure democracy, not trusting the mob mentality of a majority to decide the leader of the Republic. Instead, I’d argue we could make different changes in the Senate, voting a group of nation wide Senators added to the two from each state would result in the EC numbers being changed accordingly, depending on where the National Senators live.
EQUALITY
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Disagree
I do not believe our current institutions are racist, but we cannot and should not whitewash our history and deny our past. Look at Article 1, Section 2 of the Constitution, where some folk are considered 3/5th’s a person. Yes, our nation WAS racist, but I also believe we have progressed in the last 250 years. That being said, hate has a way of reemerging and we should always stand against it. That’s why A1, S2 hasn’t been erased; instead we added more ink to learn from our history.
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Agree
I believe we need to protect women and their spaces. Some feel a qualifying trait to compete in women’s sports is to imagine themselves in a different reality. I don’t necessarily think XX chromosomes are a needed requirement to categorize someone as a woman, but the basic equipment needs to match if you catch my drift. In regard to bathrooms, I’ve never been bothered when a women uses a men's room, but the other way around could come across as voyeuristic because of the biological equipment.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.
Strongly Agree
Humans have a huge impact on the environment, and we need to work together to protect our home. Conservation is a top priority for me, and as leaders in the free world, we should adjust accordingly; Floridians can be a major influencers in combating climate change. I know how much our citizens love their beaches, parks, and waterways, acting as stewards to our precious peninsula in order to pass it on to future generations. Let's make Florida an exemplar in this needed global effort.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
We need to invest in creative, healthy, and clean energy to meet the demand of a more sophisticated tomorrow. Keep drilling, barrel up that oil, but save it for a rainy day, (there's a finite amount.) We only get one Earth, respect her.
