What role should the school serve in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy?

Schools should treat this student like any other student and utilize available resources to best allow the student to be successful. If the necessary resources are beyond what the school can/should provide they should help direct the student to other helping agencies.

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

Every child should have the opportunity to attend college if they have demonstrated the desire and the ability to be successful in that environment regardless of their economic status. State government is absolutely responsible to provide funding that is adequate for all K-12 students to be prepared for continuing education or skilled trade work. Through needs-based assessment, the federal government should subsidize students' ability to continue education whether in college or skilled trade.

If they find themselves unable to teach this curriculum, they need to use appropriate channels to get the curriculum changed and/or work with administrators to ensure that their students still receive the material. Individual moral and/or religious beliefs should not influence teaching required curriculum.

It is important to understand our country's history in order to learn from successes and mistakes made by our predecessors. This should not preclude learning about outside perspectives as student critical thinking is cultivated. Patriotism and pride in the country help make better citizens who contribute positively to the community. While cultivating American patriotism is important it should be done in a way which celebrates the diverse cultures that make America great.
