QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
Elective abortions should only be performed if the life of the mother is in jeopardy.
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Strongly Agree
I do not support the use of drugs that may terminate a pregnancy. If used, doctors must require in-person consultation and adhere to mandatory reporting requirements.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
Taxpayer dollars should never be used to support an elective procedure that ends the life of a child.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Strongly Disagree
I do not support aid in dying laws that prompt a doctor or medical professional to contradict the historical premise for the practice of medicine in the first place -- "First, do no harm."
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are fundamental tenets of our economy and stand on the principle of personal freedom and personal responsibility.
What is your position on the minimum wage?
Wages, whether great or small, should be determined by the market. If an individual wants to earn more than what they currently receive, they should pursue the training, education, and opportunity that will fulfill that aspiration.
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
Choose not to answer
Public monies should be invested according to the consciences of those to whom the money belongs. If the money belongs to the people of a city, county, or state, the elected representatives bear the burden of investing the money accordingly. If they do so contrary to the desires of the people, they run the risk of not being reelected. The people must choose.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
The civil government should not see it as its responsibility to interfere in the life of the church. For their part, the elders of a church should make wise, prudent, and godly decisions to protect the physical and spiritual health of the flock.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
Our Constitution's 1st Amendment, when rightly interpreted, safeguards the right of individuals and businesses to act according to conscience especially regarding their sincerely held religious beliefs.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
Medicaid and Medicare are a necessary burden of our state at this point. To turn them off tomorrow would be catastrophic. However, moving forward, the healthcare industry must transition to become a real market where competition between providers can flourish and drive down costs. What we have seen to date is government's distortion of the market through uncontrolled public spending that inevitably drives healthcare prices through the roof.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
I'm not convinced a scenario like this exists but if it does, the probability of death must be so high and the efficacy of the vaccine must be so unassailable as to warrant this extreme measure. These qualifications did not exist during COVID.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
The CCP poses a serious threat to the US on a daily basis--more than most of us realize.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
The US relationship with Israel is vital to our interests in the Eastern Mediterranean but so is our relationship with other regional powers. A unified coalition of allies is vital to offset regional supporters of terrorism like Iran, Syria, and their proxies.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
Without question. Our nation's ability to secure our sovereign borders is a non-negotiable. It is the cornerstone of our national security.
EDUCATION
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.
Strongly Agree
As a military family we have seen the benefits of homeschooling our children from base to base over the last 20 years. We have made the personal commitment to invest heavily in our children's education without the state's involvement. Everyone should have the choice to teach their children as they see fit. That is a parent's God-given responsibility. I am wary of involving state money in my children's education but am an advocate for the funds to follow the child, not the system.
VALUES
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Strongly Agree
Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.
Strongly Agree
This is unquestionable. Yes.
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Strongly Disagree
Taxpayer funds should never be used to fund child abuse.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Strongly Agree
This question, asked through the lens of marriage, seeks to understand which authority is higher--God or the civil government? We do well to understand there is no authority except from God and the authorities that exist have been instituted by Him. While God calls us to obey the authorities He has appointed over us, He also admonishes us to obey Him rather than man. For this reason we cannot approve of laws and doctrines that contravene the Creator's created order.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I believe that the Word of God contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments is the only rule for faith and practice. It is what guides me through life. We live in a secular and pluralistic society but I rely on God's Word to shape my worldview and provide light to my path and I share this with my children so they will not walk in darkness. We see the impact of our worldview on a broader societal level in the norms we establish, the laws we pass, and in what we teach our children. All are informed by what we believe about standards of behavior for how we ought to act. I follow an absolute standard that God has plainly declared in the Bible.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
People should be able to vote when they are registered and demonstrate they are who they claim to be. We require this level of identification for many other necessities in life. If we truly want to preserve the integrity of our election process we should require some form of identification.
States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.
Disagree
The Electoral College is an integral part of our electoral system that incorporates the will of the people while safeguarding against faction and tyranny, balancing the interests of large states with those of smaller ones. It should be preserved.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Racism could be a threat to our domestic security if we continue to weaponize the issue. Rather than seeking the unity and equality of opportunity that Dr. Martin Luther King described, many seek to use racism as a tool to drive an even greater wedge between people who happen to have different skin colors. Serving in the military, the importance of mission accomplishment was always the great equalizer. I had my wingman's six and he had mine. Color of skin was completely irrelevant.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Not only do I reject CRT's conclusions, I question the motives that led to its creation.
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
Men are men. Women are women. We all know what that means. We need to stop pretending as if we don't.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.
Bottom line: we all want clean air and clean water for ourselves and for our children. We should, therefore, be good stewards of the resources God has given us. We should adopt a course that allows us to use emerging technology over time to drive down the price of clean energy production in a way that does not shock the system or impose economic hardship on the most vulnerable.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
We should pursue revolutionary new small modular reactors designs that are safe, efficient, scalable, and zero-carbon. The stigma of Three-mile Island and Chernobyl is an anachronism. Nuclear energy is a key player for a cleaner, brighter future.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
Government exists to provide the goods and services that no one person is able to provide for himself. Government exists to establish law and order, and provide for the common defense.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
I am a concerned citizen who appreciates and understands the brilliance of the Constitution and how it got us to where we are. I do not want us to abandon those principles that have served us so well.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Disagree
We have seen the horrible consequences of defunding the police. Those who have experienced the worst of this are not the elites who have called for the elimination of law enforcement. They are the law-abiding citizens who live in crime-ridden neighborhoods and fear for their safety. Policing is far from perfect work but cannot be replaced by a community program that is not designed to serve justice when the law is broken. If both are needed, then budget and appropriate funds for both.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
The states have already implemented restrictions on gun ownership. The issue with guns is not the weapon. It is the person pulling the trigger. We live in a hyper-violent society that revels in the depiction and glorification of violence in nearly every media format. It should therefore come as no surprise that adults and children alike, seek to act out what they've seen on the screen. We must address the root cause of the problem rather than continuing to apply ineffective band-aids.
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
No
No. Teachers are teachers. If we need armed school resource officers or school police, then we should consider them as the armed response option.
