QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
If a pregnancy threatens a mother's life, I would leave that incredibly difficult decision to her and her family.
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Agree
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Disagree
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Agree
What is your position on the minimum wage?
I used to earn the minimum wage. We would do a better job paying American workers a fair wage if the market wasn't distorted by millions of illegal workers who bring wages down.
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
No
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
If the building is on fire.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Disagree
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
The government's continued centralization of health care has led to patient frustration, provider frustration, loss of access, delayed treatment, and has failed to deliver the lower costs that were promised by the pro-government health care advocates. This is particularly true in rural areas, which continue to lose providers.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Businesses and government entities that require employees to get unproven vaccinations will continue to lose many of their best workers. It is every American citizen's right to choose not to be vaccinated.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
Yes. Israel has always been our greatest ally in the region and is the country that most shares our beliefs and ideals in that part of the world.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
EDUCATION
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.
Agree
VALUES
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Agree
Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.
Agree
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Disagree
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Agree
The definition above is how I define "marriage" in the context of my faith and my own marriage. Government can play games with words, but it can't change my beliefs, my faith or how my wife and I define our marriage.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I'm a Christian. We are commanded to love God and our neighbors as ourselves. It is a call to serve others. I will fail at times, but I believe being Christ-like is a lofty ideal worth pursuing.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
Requiring photo identification gives people more trust in the voting process, which is sorely lacking at the moment.
States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.
Strongly Disagree
No Iowan should support the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. It would centralize all power in the largest urban areas and states in the country. Iowa would lose any influence it has in national politics. Set aside the fact that the Compact is unconstitutional.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Real racism is a threat to domestic tranquility because it is hatred for people based on the color of their skin, not the content of their character. Right now, false accusations of racism are an even greater threat to domestic peace because they are intentionally used to drive us apart, rather than unite us together to strengthen our neighborhoods and communities.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Disagree
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Agree
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.
Some environmental regulation is necessary--we all need clean air and water and good soil to survive. The chief problem we have now is that scientists--particularly those with the loudest voices--have lost credibility due to their arrogance and censoring of alternative scientific views. Their behavior during the Covid pandemic hurt their credibility even more. Honest, fact-based science needs to replace fearmongering if faith in science is to be restored.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
The "most reliable" energy source is a mix of energy sources that help our country be efficient, affordable, and energy-independent. It's a matter of national security as well as prosperity. Competition within the energy space is essential.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
The primary purpose of government is to protect individual rights, among which are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It does so by, among other things, maintaining law and order, administering systems of justice, and defending its territory.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Disagree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
We should not be arming those with a history of violence or folks whose mental illness raises an undue risk of violence. In making these determinations, every American should be afforded due process.
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
If properly trained and willing. Obviously, no teacher should be required to do so.
