QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Agree

The issue of abortion is very personal and someone who opposes it should not have his taxes pay to have someone have this procedure.

Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.

Strongly Agree

I'm a board-certified Ob/Gyn. Although I have never performed an abortion, I'm well aware of the complications that can occur as a result of an abortion from taking an abortifacient. Heavy bleeding and pain may necessitate the care of medical personal and thus a qualified medical person should be involved.

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

I support the Nevada State Law which allows elective abortion up to 24 weeks. My experience with abortion is that it is sad. Everything about it is sad. My personal belief is that it is acceptable when the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest, the life of the mother is at risk, or the fetus has no chance of life after birth. The majority of Nevadans desire the current law and I will vote to support their desire.

Does the federal government have a role to play in limiting abortion, and if so what federal steps and/or federal legislation would you support?

Everything possible, including support from the federal government should be used to limit unwanted pregnancies. These include encouragement of abstinence, effective contraception, support to continue the pregnancy.

ECONOMY

What actions would you take that would allow Americans to retain more of their income and wealth?

I will support less federal spending which will result in less inflation. Inflation causes higher costs for everything from groceries to cars and homes. Credit costs more with high inflation. Inflation is a hidden tax which takes our income.

Student loan forgiveness unfairly shifts the financial burden to those not responsible for student debt.

Strongly Agree

Paying back one's debt is a principle of honesty and integrity and no one else should be responsible. There may be the occasion when someone pays back his or her debt by performing a service instead of paying with money. I feel that we should restrict the amount of debt available. Universities and colleges raise their tuition because they know the student can borrow more money. By restricting borrowing, tuition costs will not rise as quickly.

Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?

Yes

There may be the occasion when this is acceptable but our public monies should be considered sacred and should be spent wisely, not like they are now.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

Freedom of religion is a fundamental human right that protects the conscience of all people. It allows us to think, express and act upon what we deeply believe.Churches, religious organizations and individuals face increasing restrictions as they participate in the public square, express their beliefs or serve in society and this is wrong. We need to preserve and strengthen religious freedom.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

Freedom of religion is a fundamental human right.

HEALTHCARE

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

There should be exemptions. Vaccines that have been through rigorous clinical trials and evaluation after FDA approval have benefited our society. As a gynecologist I have seen the incidence of cervical caner fall due to the HVP vaccine.

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

B. In my opinion, our healthcare model has many deficiencies but I'm afraid of how our government would fund and run a "healthcare for all' and so I can't support that option. Laws should be passed that strengthen patients rights as it pertains to private health insurance companies.

NATIONAL SECURITY

With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.

C. The history of our country trying to intervene or selectively help other countries has shown that we have failed. The military industrial-complex is real and encourages us to spend funds unwisely.

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Strongly Agree

We need to reduce and eliminate our dependence on China while maintaining a healthy relationship with them in order to prevent an armed conflict because us and China.

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

Our relationship with Israel is very important! They are our friends. Israel and the Jewish people depend on and deserve our help. They are the only democracy in the Middle East and they assist our country. It would be nice if there were peace in that part of the world.

What are the causes of decline in U.S. military recruitment and retention?

The economy is one cause. Military pay is poor and young people are able to find employment elsewhere and so they don't enlist. The loss of public confidence in the military due to fighting between political parties is another cause of the decline in enrollment and retention.

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Strongly Agree

I do not support building a wall along the entire border because I don't feel it will work. However, I support having barriers and more personal in certain areas to bolster the strength of our southern border. A federal solution is the best way to control immigration

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

Unskilled workers from other countries should be allowed into the U.S. to help farmers harvest crops. Some high skilled workers should also be allowed. In some instances humanitarian reasons also exist. There are benefits and drawbacks to immigration and comprehensive bipartisan legislation is needed.

EDUCATION

I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.

Agree

There has always been strong opposition from the Democratic controlled states because they oppose any funding for anything other than public and charter schools. Education scores in Nevada have been among the worse despite increased spending. I support voucher and school choice programs. If they succeed we can continue supporting them. If's worth a try.

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Neutral

VALUES

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Strongly Agree

Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.

Strongly Agree

Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.

Disagree

There may be a very rare situation where tax payer funds should be used.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I believe that I am a child of a Heavenly Father who loves me and wants me to return to live with him with my wife, children, and other family members. We are all spiritual brothers and sisters. Jesus Christ came to this world, lived a perfect life and atoned and died for our sins, so we can be forgiven and resurrected and live with Him again. It is by His grace that we are saved, after all that we can do. He gave us commandments, that if we follow, will bring us happiness and joy in this world and the world to follow.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

Photo identification is required for about everything and I don't know anyone that doesn't have photo identification. Voter identification would prevent some voter fraud and give all citizens more confidence in our elections.

The Electoral College should be abolished.

Strongly Disagree

States with smaller populations would be less important in the election of the president of the United States. The electoral college was instituted with the purpose of giving the individual states more power in determining who will be president and I support this.

EQUALITY

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Strongly Disagree

There is racism by some, but in my opinion, as a nation we are becoming less racist. I strongly disagree with Critical Race Theory.

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Strongly Agree

There are obvious anatomic differences between males and females and regardless of how a biological male feels about himself, he should not be allowed to participate in women's sports, use women bathrooms, etc.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.

Neutral

I do believe that there are man-made global changes and that we should methodically make changes in a responsible way.

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

I support nuclear energy. Advancements are being made in the development of nuclear reactors which will make them safer to use and hopefully there will be a change in the perception of the use of nuclear energy.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

Provide a safe and secure society and protect us from outside interference. Most of us desire a place to work, a home to live in, a family, freedom to worship, etc. and feel comfortable doing so.

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

NO

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No

JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY

The Supreme Court should be reformed to include more seats.

Strongly Disagree

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.

Strongly Disagree

Our police departments are already struggling and taking funds from them will be detrimental.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

I went to high school in Idaho during the 1970's. Many of my friends drove pickups to school with guns in a gun rack. Guns were not a problem then. Society has changed. There are certain individuals that should not be allowed to own guns. I agree with background checks before purchasing a firearm. I think the availability of assault weapons needs to be debated and some type of solution found.
