QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

1) When the girl or woman has been raped. 2)When the girl or woman finds from her doctor that her own life is in danger due to the pregnancy. 3) When the girl is not old enough to be a competent mother and not strong enough physically and/or mentally, due to her youth, to carry a baby. 4) When the girl or woman is pregnant as a result of incest, 5) When the girl /woman finds out that the baby will likely die in her womb or suffer grave illness for the rest of its life after delivery.

Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.

Strongly Agree

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Agree

I have seen people suffer so badly and families tortured watching the slow death. Therefore, I believe that an adult should have the right to sign a document witnessed by a family member who is chosen by the subject (before he/she is too incapacitated) giving permission to the attending doctor to assist with euthanasia at a described point in the illness (such as after 3 months in a coma or after so many days of failed critical bodily functions, other).

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Disagree

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

I suppose Covid 19 presented the best illustration of this. If the church as well as other organizations and places where people gather are deemed to be endangering lives because of a known highly infectious disease or a known other danger such as possible bomb threats, then the government has the right to do this. The order would not pertain just to churches; it would be to any place that presents a risk to human life. Stores would be exempt because of the vital products they sell.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Agree

By all means. Anything else is discrimination. The person who wants to discriminate should sell their products from their home where they have the right to choose to whom they will sell or provide service.

Should religious schools which accept state funds be allowed to only admit families and students who agree to adhere to their statement of faith?

No

Public, taxpayer funds should not be tied in any way to organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender preference, age, ability, religion, political persuasion, or employment type.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Agree

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

We have an agreement within NATO to defend each other and we have American citizens in that country. The danger posed by the Hezbollah militant group and Hamas, aided by Iran, is one that can affect other countries like ours. I believe though, that Israel should in good conscience aim for an immediate ceasefire, not "absolute victory" which implies a takeover or displacement of the Palestinian people.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

B

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

I believe that vaccinations should be required when the proper authorities deem that the pandemic is so out of control that the danger of extreme morbidity and mortality is high and that the effects of severe spread will hurt society on other levels.

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

I believe this and I further believe that it means we should work for what we get and that the rules should be applied fairly across the board. If I work hard and save money and keep my credit report healthy, and keep a clean record with the law, I should have the exact same opportunity to apply for a residential loan or commercial loan as the next person without regard to financial legacy and who they know. I should have the same right to purchase in any neighborhood as another person.

What is your position on the minimum wage?

While NC raised it in 2021 to $13, I believe we need to play catch up and do another increase. We went almost 14 years with no increase. Families bear the burden of this gap between pay and the cost of living and find it difficult to catch up.

Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?

Yes

I think so. I don't believe in throwing good money to bad, and that's what happens if, for example, we use federal grant money, let's say, to build a mental health center in an area where there is a high degree of chemical pollution. While we're attempting to address one issue, we're setting people up for a new problem. I think we must study data and ratings, apply them fairly and prioritize them reasonably to attain the best for our citizens.

EDUCATION

The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.

Disagree

I believe NC needs to come up with a better formula that doesn't drain the public schools. Fewer than 2% of school age children attend private schools in NC. We ensure resources for 98% who are in our public schools. I believe that parents who choose private school should receive a voucher not to exceed 33% of the state's PPE (Per pupil expenditure) and that these vouchers are only available to families whose incomes fall under $30K per person in household per year, ie. family of 3 on $90K/yr

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.

Agree

I think this topic has become very misunderstood. I firmly appreciate what our officers do when they act justly and respectfully. I do however, believe we should put more money into prevention of crimes than into intervention and punishment. No research shows the latter as effective, given the high recidivism rates.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

Intensive background checks Denials of permits to criminals and mentally ill people higher age requirements for ownership ..over 21 longer waiting periods A registry of all gun purchases made available to the public especially to schools (just like registry of child predators is available)

ABOUT YOU

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

To provide leadership for the equal and equitable distribution of resources needed by citizens for health, wellbeing, and tranquility.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

no

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

no

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Lean Liberal

VALUES

Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.

Neutral

I think it depends on a diagnosis from a mental health professional. I believe that if a teenager is suicidal because of this torment, or poses danger to others because of the years they have endured the struggle, and other therapies to address their struggle with sexual or gender identity have not resolved the issue for the teen, and the doctor recommends the transition surgery, then I believe we should regard it the way we regard other situations that warrant necessary care to be healthy.

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent unless an emergency situation arises risking immediate death.

Agree

What age is "a child"? Legally we think in terms of 16 to drive, 18 to vote, 21to drink. Perhaps we need to define child with regard to health decisions. I think a girl who is pregnant at 11 years old needs the advice of a parent or other legal and caring guardian to make a decision either way, to carry the baby or to have an abortion. The brain of an 11-year-old hasn't finished growing and developing in thinking capacity.

Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.

Strongly Agree

I agree. Again, because children do not have fully developed brains, we cannot expect them to make decisions that will sustain sound, happy lives going forward. Mature, caring adults must help children with decisions that can be life altering.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Neutral

I grew up in the church and hold personal values which were framed by religious tenets and guidance. As I have allowed myself to hear others and their beliefs and values, I have decided that my God only asks that I love God, that I love my neighbor, and that God will handle the rest. I believe that government has no more authority to stop one from loving whom they love, than it has to encourage it. Ultimately, I am a believer in human rights and dignity. I am a strong advocate for equality.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

Voting absentee by mail ballot should be limited to those meeting at least one of the following criteria: 1) 65 years of age or older on Election Day, 2) sick or disabled, 3) expecting to give birth within three weeks before or after Election Day, or 4) confirmed to be absent from the county of registration during voting.

Strongly Disagree

Voting absentee should be available to anyone of voting age. These 4 criteria do no cover all of the possible reasons why one may choose to vote by absentee ballot. These are just the reasons that selected legislators came up with. What about the 38-year-old, work- from- home dad who has no car and cannot easily tote twin babies to the polls (on the city bus) ? He doesn't fit these 4 criteria but could vote if allowed to do absentee ballot.

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

When any one of us is not free, none of us are free. When people are oppressed and denied their share of the dream, they eventually react in one way or another. On the other hand, the oppressor puts our nation in severe jeopardy with each threat of violence that reflects their dissatisfaction with the growing diversity in the US. We must find ways to welcome diverse people, diverse thought, diverse politics. Our country was founded for this very reason.

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Agree

If we're talking fundamentally, yes. Our country's government and plan for economic growth was formed by White men who refused to share power with women or people of color, and built on the backs of Black people whose work on plantations gave birth to the generational wealth enjoyed by many White families in our country. So this is not a statement to incite ill will. It is the truth. It is our history. We cannot undo it even if we take the books off of the shelves in school libraries.

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Neutral

I think this is too loaded a question. So let's unpack it a little. I'll put it this way: I don't want to share my locker room with a guy. If I were a college student, I would be fine with guys living down the hall. I personally believe we should have more coed sports where there are divisions by height and weight to create a 'level playing field' of sorts. I think for parents of teens there are so many concerns that go beyond my personal considerations. We must stay open to all of these.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.
