QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Neutral
While I personally oppose abortion in nearly all circumstances, I believe that the U.S. Supreme Court's recent decision in Dobbs places the issue of abortion as a State issue - not a Federal one.
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Strongly Agree
I believe that any drug that has the potential to have severe reactions should be administered by a Physician and that the outcomes should be provided (anonymized) to the appropriate regulatory authorities for evaluation of effectiveness and adverse side effects.
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
While I personally oppose abortion in nearly all circumstances, I believe that the U.S. Supreme Court's recent decision in Dobbs places the issue of abortion as a State issue - not a Federal one.
Does the federal government have a role to play in limiting abortion, and if so what federal steps and/or federal legislation would you support?
While I personally oppose abortion in nearly all circumstances, I believe that the U.S. Supreme Court's recent decision in Dobbs places the issue of abortion as a State issue - not a Federal one.
ECONOMY
What actions would you take that would allow Americans to retain more of their income and wealth?
I will seek to repeal any legislation that further damages the economy and makes things for us more expensive. I will serve as a advocate for Maryland products and services to be included in any proposed economic legislation.
Student loan forgiveness unfairly shifts the financial burden to those not responsible for student debt.
Strongly Agree
There are several existing programs that offer Student Loan Forgiveness for government service or serving as a teacher. These programs are poorly administered and need to be fixed and expanded to other areas of public service such as Public Safety. Taxpayers should not shoulder the burden of paying for loans to receive degrees that do not yield a useful employment opportunities or a public service.
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
Choose not to answer
Investments of public monies should be focused on obtaining the greatest rate of return for the taxpayers. However, they also need to be invested in areas that are morally defensible and that do not violate legal restrictions.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
First, that term does not appear anywhere in any governing document of our nation. The Founding Fathers only intended to ensure that Americans were free to worship as they see fit; without having the State tell them what to believe. I fully support the U.S. Constitution - all of it.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
The 1st Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees our right to practice of religious beliefs. Government has no business or right to force Americans to conduct their private businesses in a manner inconsistent with their personal beliefs.
HEALTHCARE
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Military readiness for world-wide deployment requires that Servicemembers be immunized against all manner of infectious threats. I support this, but only when the vaccines in question have been fully tested and evaluated as fully effective.
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
Answer C most closely matches my personal view. While I believe that affordable care should be available to every American, I do not believe that this needs to be accomplished through the subsidization of plans with taxpayer funds. There are alternatives.
NATIONAL SECURITY
With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.
I fall somewhere between answers A & B. America must defend democracies when threatened with tyranny. America is the leader of the Free World and must be willing to defend our allies and deter our adversaries. I fully support aid to Israel and providing assistance to Ukraine and Taiwan, however, our aid must be audited to ensure that funds are going to the intended purposes.
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
China is now the greatest threat to America. Their disregard for intellectual property rights, and consistent efforts to commit espionage against the U.S. poses a real threat to our nation. China has strengthened it's military and improved their technology (often with our stolen technology) to the point of now being a near-peer competitor. The economic growth of China over the past few decades also poses a threat to our economy.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
Absolutely. The U.S. has a moral responsibility to maintain strong ties to Israel - the only true democracy in the Middle East. We share a common perception of governance, free markets, and preservation of individual rights that is unmatched in the region.
What are the causes of decline in U.S. military recruitment and retention?
The Department of Defense has taken social experimentation and politicization to a dangerous level; making it difficult to recruit or retain highly qualified personnel. Also, the legalization of Marijuana and other drugs at the State level has made it difficult to find recruits who can pass a drug test. Furthermore, the lack of leadership's emphasis on defense of the nation makes military service far less appealing that it once was. As a veteran, this saddens me greatly.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
Countries are defined by their borders. This Administration’s failure to secure our borders, and the unprecedented flow of unvetted people and illegal drugs pouring across them, represents a grave threat to our national security. I will work to secure our borders, enforce our laws, and to fix the broken immigration system that has served as the excuse for this mess.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Our legal immigration statutes are outdated and ineffective. We are a nation of immigrants and immigration is a necessary part of the fabric of America. We also need to welcome legitimate refugees - those fleeing their homelands in fear for their lives for their political or religious views. I also believe that those with U.S. Citizen family members willing to accept financial responsibility for them should be allowed to immigrate outside the numerical restrictions.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Strongly Agree
I fully believe that education dollars should follow the student, and that Parents should have a right to choose how and where their children are to be educated. If the public school system has failed to properly educate a child, then it is the responsibility of the Parents to seek out alternatives. I fully support tax credit incentives to offset some of the costs associated with sending a child to a private school - including those attending religious schools.
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Strongly Agree
the Constitution specifies in the 10th Amendment that issues not specifically entrusted to the Federal Government are to purview of the States. Education is not specified in the Constitution as a Federal responsibility. States and local communities are in a much better position to evaluate the needs of their students then is the Federal government.
VALUES
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Neutral
While I agree that Marriage is ordained by our Creator, I question whether any government has the authority to dictate whom someone should love, cherish, and wed. I firmly believe that choices made by consenting adults as to whom they wish to share their lives with should be left to the individual and based upon their personal religious beliefs.
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Strongly Agree
The rampant indoctrination of our children by extreme liberals is an affront to the rights of parents. The U.S. Supreme Court has held that Parenting is a Fundamental Right. Children are not in a mental or emotional position to make life-changing decisions on their own. That's why we have age restrictions for driving, gambling, consumption of alcoholic beverages, marriage - the list continues. Parents are responsible for their children until age 18. This should not be challenged.
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Disagree
I believe that all people should be treated with dignity and respect. Those who are truly transgender should be treated no differently than any other American. The 14th Amendment guarantees equal protection under the law. That being stated, I do not believe, however, that taxpayers should be asked to fund gender transition services, as that is a personal choice of the individual and, therefore, a personal responsibility.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I was raised Catholic and consider myself a Christian. I believe that all things in the universe have been ordained by our Creator. I respect personal liberties and the right of every person to hold to their own moral code or beliefs. I was raised by wonderful, working-class Parents that taught us right from wrong. I believe in service before self and have spent my entire life serving my family, community, State and Nation. I do not sacrifice my principles for political expediency. I am a fighter, and I will fight for this State and our Nation - Always.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
I do not believe that it is too much to ask for someone to identify themselves in order to participate in something as important as casting a ballot. We ask for ID to purchase alcohol, lottery tickets, to enter most government buildings, and to cash a check - so why is it thought to be such a burden to ask for it to vote?
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
The Founding Fathers understood that everyone's vote must count, and that areas with larger populations should not have the ability to force their will upon the lesser populated areas. That is the purpose of the Electoral College - to serve as a check to oppression. I support continuation of the Electoral College.
EQUALITY
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
I believe that CRT is ridiculous and has no basis in reality.
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
I support an individual's right to self-identify as they feel; however, I do not support those individuals forcing their self-identification on the rest of society. Males and females are biologically different - this is a simple scientific fact. Just because someone self-identified as a female does not entitle them to displace biological females in spaces reserved for biological females.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.
Disagree
Climate Change is a simple historical fact. It occurs whether or not humans contribute to it or not. Given this, humans have a responsibility to conserve resources and to seek out ways of improving our lives without destroying our planet in the process. Human contribution to the problem is a global one, and must be addressed globally. All nations must agree to protection of the environment. The U.S. cannot fix this issue alone.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
I believe that hydrogen technology has shown great promise in meeting our future energy needs, however, until efficiently developed, other sources (fossil fuels, nuclear, solar, wind) must not be discounted.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Moderate
I try to apply common sense and good judgment to problem-solving. I find extreme views to be a hinderance to being able to reach a consensus, as extremists tend not to be wiling to compromise.
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
As stated in the U.S. Constitution, the purpose of government is, "to provide for the common defense; promote the general welfare; and secure the blessings of liberty..."
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No, I have not.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No, I have not.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
The Supreme Court should be reformed to include more seats.
Strongly Disagree
I believe that the current compliment of 9 Justices is the correct number to ensure that a variety of viewpoints is maintained in the interpretation of Constitutional Law.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Strongly Disagree
Recent history shows us that this approach is fundamentally flawed and does not promote public safety. I believe that additional resources should be allocated to community-based programs so that people in need of assistance can find the help that they need before they become a public safety concern.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I believe in the 2nd Amendment, and of our right to keep and bear arms. But that right comes with responsibilities. I am in favor of stricter enforcement of existing gun laws; removing judicial discretion for sentencing of crimes involving the use of a firearm; a mandatory, consecutive 5-year sentence for committing a crime using a gun - without the ability to suspend the sentence; and for requiring records to be kept by the registered owner for private gun sales.
