QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Choose not to answer

What role should the school serve in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy?

Parental engagement and referrals to specialized counseling and/or other third-party providers of services and guidance. Above all, it should be handled with empathy and neutrality.

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Agree

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

I am in favor of funding from Pre-K through 12th grade.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Teachers should be required to refer to students by pronouns which are misaligned with their gender at birth even if it would violate the teacher's moral and/or religious beliefs.

Disagree

EDUCATION

Abortion and gender-affirming providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Neutral

There's too much going on in that question. Instruction: disagree. Services: it depends...Planned Parenthood offers services other than what are listed in the question, including mental health, cancer screenings, well-visits, and more. There are also religious organizations that have specialized programs and should be included in the range of referral options.

Consistent discipline creates a safe and orderly environment, which is essential for student learning.

Strongly Agree

The instructional environment should be as distraction free as possible, and teachers must have the full support of their administration with regards to discipline and the student code of conduct. We must listen to our teachers, and they are saying discipline is out of control...I consider this a current educational crisis that is not getting the attention it deserves (and in part why teachers are leaving the profession). I see a gap in the current policy that allows a blind spot.

Do you believe print and digital material available or presented to students should be easily accessible for public review, including those without children enrolled in school?

Choose not to answer

It depends on what is meant by 'easily', as anything like this would need additional resources to manage (and resources are already thin). I believe in textbooks over technology for learning purposes (then the curriculum is transparent to the parents). As for the public, use your vote to elect public school board members that hold the Superintendent accountable for curriculum choices in your school and elect someone else if you don't like those choices.

Educators should give students a thorough education in America's founding documents and cultivate American patriotism.

Neutral

One American History class and Civics class will suffice, and appreciation for our country and what it stands for is important. When I was growing up in the 1970's, patriotism was cultivated through the songs we sang and the plays we put on. Sadly, the word has become polarizing because it has become politicized...and nothing is better when it has become politicized. But, love for our flag and country and respect of those that serve and have given their lives?...1000%.

I support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

Choose not to answer

I believe in equal access (which might mean more than we are doing now) and personal responsibility.

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Disagree

Austin as it is currently constituted is trying everything to undermine public education, and a Dept of Education influencing Federal policy in favor of the STUDENTS might be what is needed to get our country on the right track. Technology for younger learners works AGAINST them, not for them...yet states look for shortcuts with technology that shortchanges our students (and our future).

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): American History, Art & Music, Civics, Critical Race Theory, Foreign Language, Gender Identity, Information Technology, Language Arts, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, Political Activism, Science, Sexuality, Social Emotional Learning, Vocational Learning

Mathematics, Language Arts, Science, Personal Finances, Art & Music, Civics, Physical Fitness, Vocational Learning, Information Technology, American History

The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child instead of the bureaucracy, through a program which allows parents the freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.

Strongly Disagree

Public funds should go to public schools led by public school boards. It undermines the public education to which "every citizen has a right". It is a clear and obvious violation of the separation of church and state when public funds are directed to parochial schools, and the non-equitable selection of which parochial programs on that list will become open season for litigation. It implies larger government due to the promised oversight, and all of it benefits the rich more than the rest of us.

Which should students have: equity of outcomes or equality of opportunities?

Equal opportunity.

Which type of written parental consent should be obtained before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Education (CSE)? (A) Opt-In. (B) Opt-Out. (C) None.

A

VALUES

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I grew up attending practically every Christian denomination, including Baptist, Methodist, Assembly of God, non-Denominational, and Catholic. I see their commonalities more than I see their differences. Most importantly, I have seen that they all have people with huge hearts. Last I read, what is in your heart is most important anyway. In technology, I have had the opportunity to work with people from around the world and respect their beliefs. As an educator, I want to educate students regardless of their family's beliefs or non-belief. Love thy neighbor and do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

The appropriate age is the age the parents say.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- abortion methods and side effects; abstinence; consent; contraceptive methods; human anatomy/the reproductive system; physical and emotional health outcomes; sex acts and pleasures of sex; sexual orientation and gender identity; stages of pregnancy and fetal development

human anatomy/the reproductive system, stages of pregnancy and fetal development, physical and emotional health outcomes, abstinence, consent, contraceptive methods

Children have a right to reach maturity without chemical or surgical castration, which would damage their healthy bodies through surgeries and may cause infertility and a life-long dependence on cross-sex hormones.

Agree

Children have the right to be protected from hypersexualization (including drag shows and explicit materials) in schools and libraries.

Agree

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman essential to the formation and sustaining of a civil and prosperous society.

Neutral

I believe marriage has two components: a spiritual one and a legal one. The legal component is just a contract between any two people. The spiritual component is a private matter and a protected one (see America's 1st Amendment Freedom of Religion).

Parents have the fundamental right to raise their child in accordance with their beliefs and values, including the right to make decisions about the child's education and healthcare.

Agree

Parents should have full and timely access to any and all records, including school and medical records, associated with their minor children.

Agree

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Disagree

EQUALITY

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports.

Strongly Agree

The spirit of Title IX should be honored.

Biological males should not be allowed to occupy women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, women's shelters, prisons, or sororities.

Agree

ABOUT YOU

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

no

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

no

I voted in these primaries and general elections:

Choose not to answer

I vote often. I am not interested in polarizing partisan rhetoric, and I prefer to think critically and for myself about each issue and each candidate on a ballot.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Moderate

I do not believe that solutions for a broad population lie in the extremes.

2ND AMENDMENT

Faculty who are licensed to carry and have had ongoing training should be allowed to carry guns at school in order to respond to an active shooter situation.

Choose not to answer

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

In the event of a pandemic, school districts can mandate whatever health precautions they deem necessary (including masks and vaccines) to protect students and staff.

Agree

A qualified 'agree': If "precautions they deem necessary" implies the full continuum of choices from "mask" to "no mask" and "vaccine" to "no vaccine", I agree. Then, it is voter prerogative to hold the decision-makers accountable for those decisions, whichever side of that continuum was applied.
