QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Neutral
While abortion services should not be government funded, these organizations often provide other healthcare services that their patients may not otherwise have access.
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Disagree
While I agree that chemical abortion drugs must meet essential safety standards, any reporting requirements must protect an individual's anonymity and privacy rights.
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
I am personally against abortion, however, I believe in a woman's autonomy and right to make her own decisions. Abortion should not be criminalized in cases where there is a risk of to the mother's health or as a result of rape or incest.
Does the federal government have a role to play in limiting abortion, and if so what federal steps and/or federal legislation would you support?
I support limitation on late-term elective abortions.
ECONOMY
What actions would you take that would allow Americans to retain more of their income and wealth?
I support lowering middle class tax rates while potentially increasing the highest marginal tax rate. I also advocate public private partnerships to increase savings and investment through education and access.
Student loan forgiveness unfairly shifts the financial burden to those not responsible for student debt.
Agree
Students must understand the choices they are making, but also take responsibility for these choices.
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
Yes
ESG ratings can be A factor by providing insights into a company's long term viability, risk management practices, and social/environmental impar=ct. These ratings should not be the only factor utilized in investment decisions.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
Separation of church and state is fundamental principle recognized in the First Amendment of the US Constitution and is a cornerstone of our democratic system. Religion plays a critical part in many of our lives, and the separation of church and states protects religious freedom, our rights to choice when it comes to religion, and helps prevent discrimination based on religious belief or background. .
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Neutral
Discrimination on the basis of factors such as race, gender, sexual orientation, or religion is antithetical to our value as a society and undermines principles of fairness and equality. Businesses have a responsibility to serve the public without discrimination. In the event of a conflict of convictions, effort should be made to find reasonable accommodations - referrals, alternate service providers or other means of meeting the needs of the parties involved.
HEALTHCARE
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Vaccinations protect not only the person receiving the vaccination, but also the public with whom that individual interacts. Vaccination is a critical public health measure. Government, schools and employers can require vaccinations.
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
B is closest match to my :view: a combination of government funded insurance as well as private insurance options. Private health insurance is not an option for all, but I view access to affordable healthcare as a fundamental right for everyone..
NATIONAL SECURITY
With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.
B best reflects my view. The US has a responsibility on the global front to assist. However, we can and should prioritize our strategic alliances and partnerships in the advancement of our national security objectives. It is in the USA's best interests to promote global stability and we have the responsibility and the power to do so. Global challenges are interconnected. Our leadership position requires that we take a stance. It does NOT require us to always foot the bill for others' efforts
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Agree
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
The US's relationship with Israel is important due to the historic instability of the region. By having a trusted, powerful ally in the region upon whom the US can rely is critical to help promote general stability. Additionally, the reach and influence of this relationship goes beyond the Middle East, impacting global stability..
What are the causes of decline in U.S. military recruitment and retention?
Decline in U.S. military recruitment and retention is partially due to a decrease in the associated prestige and respect given to those serving or who previously served in the military. Some of this is due to lack of understanding of the need for new recruits. I believe there is an impact from a perceived lack of veteran support from the government and businesses. There is also an impact of "other opportunities" that many in the prime recruit population have today.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Agree
It is not only about the physical boarder. We must find solutions that strengthen our immigration system (including our boarders) through investment in technology and personnel in additional to infrastructure. Legal immigration must be supported and made more efficient.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Immigrants have made immeasurable contributions to this country throughout its history. We are a nation of immigrants. High-skilled workers, workers in industries that face labor shortages, and families seeking reunification are immigrant populations that should take prioritized. Individuals that seek a better way of life and follow the proper legal channels to legally immigrate should also be allowed as policies and procedures allow. .
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Agree
While I support improving our schools to address inequities in our traditional public schools so they can serve our students well and afford them the best opportunities, I believe parents should have a choice in what works best for them and their children, especially in unique situations. Regardless of the recipient organization, tax-payer dollars must be invested and used effectively to promote high academic standards, safety and transparency in operations for positive academic outcomes..
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Disagree
I believe national standards are the future for education in the US., and the US Department of Education can be the guide and oversight to keep all states on task and moving towards the same goals and standards of performance. Day to day operations of schools should continue to be left to the states.
VALUES
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Disagree
Religious marriage may be viewed as God-ordained and sacred to that religion, however, legal union does not have to conform to religious definition and requirement. and teh government may recognize the "marriage" of two persons regardless of religion.
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Strongly Agree
While mental health services must be supported and made available to children, I do not support gender ideology, grooming nor body modification as part of any child's life. These are discussions / decisions that can only be made by someone as an adult, for themselves (and not on behalf of someone else).
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
My personal beliefs and values are my own. I am a practicing Roman Catholic, and understand that there are many religious institutions, personal beliefs and individual circumstances that influence others' values. Respect for other religions and beliefs is fundamental to our secular government. Spiritual beliefs and values have a tremendous impact on individual lives and communities. Whether based in organized religion or individual spirituality, faith can provide a moral compass, sense of purpose, and a source of comfort / resilience in the face of life's challenges. I personally believe in family, doing what's right, behaving responsibly (fiscally and morally), respect for the individual, and working together.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Neutral
I support the idea of requiring photo IDs to vote, until we can eliminate the issues surrounding access to acquiring photo identification, we cannot require photo IDs to vote. We cannot risk the disenfranchisement of groups or individuals by imposing further burdens on their right and ability to vote. I see photo ID requirements as a means to mitigate fraud an safeguard the integrity of the vote, however, if it places and undue burden, we cant yet require it.
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Disagree
EQUALITY
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Disagree
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Disagree
iVoterGuide Notes:
After the voter guide was published, the candidate notified iVoterGuide that they intended to answer this question as "Strongly Agree."
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.
Agree
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
We will need a mix of traditional and alternative energy sources. We are currently dependent on fossil fuels, and changing will take time and investment. Nuclear and renewable energy sources must be viewed as reasonable portfolio additions.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Lean Conservative
I am fiscally conservative, however socially moderate.
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
Government is here to protect individual rights and to provide national security, the laws and rules by which we live, and essential pubic services and infrastructure, all to foster economic opportunity and growth.
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
The Supreme Court should be reformed to include more seats.
Disagree
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Disagree
The police are often underfunded in their efforts to serve and protect. Other funds may be diverted to community programs, if these are the best investment and use of taxpayer dollars, but I believe in funding our police.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Delayed access when purchasing a firearm. Screening, education & training, and storage requirements for potential gun purchasers as well, similar to operating a personal water craft or car. Limits on number of guns an individual may possess are also not out of line. While we do have strict access requirements to automatic weapons, I would also support additional requirements for semi-automatic weapons.
