QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Agree

Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.

Strongly Agree

This assumes the premise that these are legal, which I disagree with. But if they are, yes, all should follow safety standards.

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

Elective abortion should not be allowed. Texas law currently allows for performing an abortion as a medically necessary procedure to protect the life or long term health of a mother. This is a far superior state of the law than prior to the Dobbs decision.

Does the federal government have a role to play in limiting abortion, and if so what federal steps and/or federal legislation would you support?

I support the Dobbs decision that sent the issue to the states to decide. I will always support life.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

Nothing other than the phrase President Jefferson used to in his letter to the Danbury Baptists. The words do not appear in the Constitution, as most are aware. The Bill of Rights protects against the establishment of a national religion because the Founders didn't want the government interfering with freedom of religion. But our system of government is far from agnostic on the idea that God is the grantor of our rights. In fact, our country was founded on that very idea.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

NATIONAL SECURITY

With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.

C. We need to focus on our own pressing problems, like a destroyed border, exploding national debt, and out of control federal bureaucracies. There is certainly a place of foreign intervention, but our top priorities need to be here at home.

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Strongly Agree

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

Our relationship with Israel is vitally important. I've seen this as Mayor as I talk with our local Jewish community, especially in the wake of the October 7th terrorist attacks. We must continue to support our friends in Israel and give them the resources they need to remain a beacon of freedom in the middle east.

What are the causes of decline in U.S. military recruitment and retention?

Our warfighters are the best in the world, but too often the political class fails them. Young men and women need to believe in the causes they are asked to fight for. If we get the "woke" out of the military and stop interfering in foreign causes that most Americans can't identify with, I believe we will see recruitment rise.

HEALTHCARE

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

None. Vaccination decisions should be between doctors and families. As the son and brother of doctors, I've seen firsthand the importance of the government staying out of these decisions.,

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

C most closely matches my view, because America made a promise to seniors and lower income citizens that it should keep. But the programs are on their way to bankruptcy and DHHS uses them as mechanisms to force legal changes on the American public. Massive reform in both programs is needed.

ECONOMY

What actions would you take that would allow Americans to retain more of their income and wealth?

In Congress, I will fight for balanced budgets and real tax cuts. We must reign in out of control federal spending or inflation will continue to hollow out the core of the middle class.

Student loan forgiveness unfairly shifts the financial burden to those not responsible for student debt.

Strongly Agree

Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?

No

ESG ratings are poisonous to public companies and are a big part of why a lot of big American companies are forced to "go woke."

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Strongly Agree

When I visited the border, I saw the effects of the Biden administration's intentional destruction of the border. We must fix the broken policies that have created this national crisis. As Mayor, I have dealt with the effects of this crisis, with drugs and human trafficking impacting our city and every city in America. It must end immediately.

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

Our immigration system should be completely reformed so that US employers can match foreign labor supply with domestic labor demand. That means that the visa system must be fair, predictable, and easy on both employer and immigrant. But none of that can happen until we stop the flow of drugs, human trafficking, and cartel violence on our border.

EDUCATION

I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.

Strongly Agree

I am the proud father of three amazing homeschooled kids, and my wife Elizabeth is a rockstar mom and teacher. She inspires me every day. School choice is critical to introduce competition, which breeds improved educational outcomes. The details can be messy but conceptually, school choice is imperative.

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Strongly Agree

The Department of Education must be abolished, plain and simple. In whatever performance metrics by which the DOE could judge itself – test scores, reading proficiencies, graduation rates – the DOE is failed. I will demand that the department’s bureaucrats justify every penny in their budget and, if they can’t, it will be defunded.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.

Strongly Disagree

In Southlake, I increased the funding for our School Resource Officer program because I know that the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. I also increased our salaries for our public safety officers, because they deserve it.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

I believe strongly in the Second Amendment and that it confers an individual right to keep and bear arms. As Mayor I increased funding for the School Resource Officer program because I know that the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.

JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY

The Supreme Court should be reformed to include more seats.

Strongly Disagree

We need more conservatives on the Court. I am completely against court packing.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

The purpose of the government is to protect our God given rights and liberties and to exercise the powers derived from the consent of the governed as outlined in the Constitution.

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No.

VALUES

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Strongly Agree

Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.

Strongly Agree

In Southlake, we were the bleeding edge of the national fight against Cultural Marxism and DEI. I helped lead that fight as we battled against aggressive, far left ideologues trying to push DEI in our local schools. We beat the DEI plan, replaced the leftists on the school board, and reclaimed our district for the parents and kids, not for the bureaucrats.

Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.

Strongly Disagree

Gender transition services should be illegal for minors.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a Christian and I hold a Biblical worldview. My relationship with Christ is my North Star, and I believe I will answer to God someday for how I conduct myself in office.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

The Electoral College should be abolished.

Disagree

The Electoral College serves to protect small states and rural areas so that the large urban areas don't dominate all presidential elections. It's a wise system.

EQUALITY

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Strongly Disagree

In Southlake, we were the bleeding edge of the national fight against Cultural Marxism and DEI. I helped lead that fight as we battled against aggressive, far left ideologues trying to push DEI in our local schools. We beat the DEI plan, replaced the leftists on the school board, and reclaimed our district for the parents and kids, not for the bureaucrats.

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Strongly Agree

It is completely ridiculous that this is even an issue. As a father of two daughters who are very good basketball players, I will always defend women's sports from biological males who are mentally ill trying to compete and dominate.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.

Strongly Disagree

Here's the truth - the Earth's climate is always changing. The "climate change" movement is largely driven by socialist/Marxist ideologues who want to use these programs and regulations to gain more control over our lives and businesses. It should be utterly rejected.

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

Our energy future is simple - drill and produce our domestic oil and gas, especially here in Texas, and invest in nuclear energy. We must let the American entrepreneurial spirit solve our energy needs without undue interference from the government.
