QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
What role should the school serve in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy?
They should only provide the emotional support and counseling they would offer any student for any situation. There should be no advice provided on how to handle that situation. The student should be encouraged to speak to their parents or other relatives close to them to help them deal with the situation.
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
The freedom to choose an individual's productive path in life, and the ability to own property creates a healthy economic system. When a person has a stake in what they choose to do, it creates a stronger work ethic and a stronger economy, if the government doesn't impose unnecessary restrictions and regulations.
What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?
Government funding should only be provided for K-12 education. Statistics from Head Start show that there is not a significant difference for those children who have received Pre-K education and those who have not. Once a solid basic education is provided, young people must be responsible for their future. I was made aware of misuse of Pell Grants a number of years ago. Again, if students don't have some stake in their post-high school education they are less likely to be successful.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Teachers should be required to instruct students on mandated curriculum even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
There should not be any mandated curriculum that would violate a teacher's moral or religious beliefs.
EDUCATION
Abortion and gender transitioning providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.
Strongly Disagree
Those are issues that should be addressed in the home. It is up to parents and guardians to help a child through questions and difficulties they may encounter. If a parent wishes to use those resources to help their child, it is up to them. None of those providers, nor Planned Parenthood should be in the schools. Planned Parenthood should not be government funded either.
Consistent discipline creates a safe and orderly environment, which is essential for student learning.
Strongly Agree
Discipline does have to be consistent, however, each child is an individual and should be treated as such, and according to the situation. The current no tolerance policies found in many schools, allow administrators not to have to make decisions about individual situations. A student's normal/usual demeanor and actions must be considered.
Do you believe print and digital material available or presented to students should be easily accessible for public review, including those without children enrolled in school?
Yes
If taxpayer dollars are used to fund the schools, the public should have the opportunity to review the materials, if they so choose.
Educators should give students a thorough education in America's founding documents and cultivate American patriotism.
Agree
Students should learn about the founding documents and have a thorough Civics education. Cultivating patriotism however is not a function of schools. That should be cultivated in the home and other areas of the community. Patriotism cultivated in schools can easily be skewed and become indoctrination and not support the views presented at home. Hitler youth in Germany is a good example.
I support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
Strongly Disagree
A person should only be viewed by their character as a human being and their actions. All people and students should be afforded the same opportunities whether in the educational setting or economic setting and it is up to them to work towards being successful.
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Strongly Agree
Schools seem to have become more separated from the community as the federal government has become more involved in education. Decisions made at the federal level do not necessarily reflect individual communities. Schools should reflect and meet the needs of the communities in which they are located.
If a member of the public flags (challenges) a book as inappropriate and the school board disagrees, should the board impose a moratorium on when the book can be challenged again? If yes, for how long?
No, any individual in a community should be able to challenge a book at the time they feel it is a problem. There shouldn't be a time limit on that.
Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): American History, Art & Music, Civics, Critical Race Theory, Foreign Language, Gender Identity, Information Technology, Language Arts, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, Political Activism, Science, Sexuality, Social Emotional Learning, Vocational Learning
Language Arts, Mathematics, American History, Civics, Science, Personal Finances, Art and Music, Information Technology, Vocational Learning, Foreign Language, Physical Fitness
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child instead of the bureaucracy, through a program which allows parents the freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.
Strongly Agree
When a school is chosen, and a student is enrolled for any given year, that school must be responsible for educating that student for that year. They can't be rejected part way through the school year. This caveat is to ensure that the funding stays with that student.
Which should students have: equity of outcomes or equality of opportunities?
Students should be presented with equal opportunity. Then it is up to them and their parents/guardians to use that opportunity to reach their goals. Students bring to the table many different abilities and knowledge. Innovations in our country would be very limited if we had all outcomes be equal. School districts across the country have different views, opportunities, and programs creating a unique student population so necessary to the continued growth of ideas.
Which type of written parental consent should be obtained before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Education (CSE)? (A) Opt-In. (B) Opt-Out. (C) None.
Parental choice of opting-in or opting-out should be given in writing and respected by the school.
Who should make decisions about whether or not a book is appropriate for children? A) the elected school board members; B) an outsourced community committee
A pre-selected parent committee would be best with input from the school board. The committee would make the final decision, since it is their children who are impacted. An outsourced committee would be considered non-biased; however, the bias of the parent community should be considered as it would be more reflective of that community. Other communities may not object to the same book.
VALUES
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
God has always guided my life. I have always believed that whatever his intention is for me, that is what I will do. And as God guided our Founding Fathers in this country, I value life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I value freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and freedom to bear arms. I value all of those items granted to us in our constitution because they are inalienable rights that cannot be taken away. I believe that I should be kind and care for other people, but also encourage people to learn to help themselves, if possible.
Children have a right to reach maturity without chemical or surgical castration, which would damage their healthy bodies through surgeries and may cause a life-long dependence on cross-sex hormones.
Strongly Agree
All things having to do with the transgender agenda are, in my opinion, child abuse. Considering making it allowable to take drugs or have surgeries as a child to alter who they were born as is unacceptable.
If sexual education is taught in schools, what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?
Children who are close to puberty are usually taught the bodily changes that can be expected as they grow. That is biological and helpful to children in that age category. However, instead of the schools taking on that role, with parent permission, of course, I would prefer to see communities create, possibly through social services, a class for parents/guardians giving them the resources and tools to address this topic, so they can share what they wish with their children.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman essential to the formation and sustaining of a civil and prosperous society.
Strongly Agree
People should be treated kindly whatever their choices, however one does not have to agree with those choices and should not be chastised for that disagreement. Marriage between a man and a woman is the embodiment of the family unit, and that is the foundation of a productive society.
Parents have the fundamental right to raise their child in accordance with their beliefs and values, including the right to make decisions about the child's education and healthcare.
Agree
Only if a parent is found to be mentally unstable and the welfare of the child is at risk, do I disagree.
Parents should have full and timely access to any and all records, including school and medical records, associated with their minor children.
Strongly Agree
Any records that are maintained by any organization concerning a child are ultimately the property of the parent.
School children have the right to be protected from sexual grooming including drag shows and explicit materials with pictures of sex acts and graphic language.
Strongly Agree
The idea that anyone thinks that these things are acceptable in any setting is abhorrent.
Should schools be giving instruction on how to engage in sexual acts, the pleasures of sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity or should they instead focus on educating students about the science of reproduction?
There should be no instructions in the school setting on any of these matters. It is highly personal, and any sexual education should be a decision made in the home. Those subjects taught in a biology class concerning reproduction are the only matters regarding sex that are acceptable.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
ID is required for most everything you do that has legal implications. Voting shouldn't be any different. To ensure free and fair elections it is a must. Having observed the polls in the recent municipal elections where ID needed to be shown, there was not one objection in the polling place I was in.
EQUALITY
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
Why as a nation did we ensure that women had equal opportunity to participate in sports, only to allow men to compete against them if they so choose? It totally negates the strides made in the last few decades. It basically indicates that men can choose to do whatever they want, and women should just accept it. If a man thinks he feels like a woman, that doesn't make him a woman, and he should not be allowed in places that are reserved for women.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
2ND AMENDMENT
The right to bear arms is fundamental and must be protected.
Strongly Agree
Our brilliant Founding Fathers wrote the second amendment to ensure that we would always have the means by which to defend ourselves from any enemy, foreign or domestic. Their experience leading to our revolution made it clear to them that it was necessary to protect ourselves from forces not agreeing with our constitution. Unfortunately, there are other people in this world who do not respect the right of freedom and liberty and would be more than willing to take that right from us.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
In the event of a pandemic, school districts can mandate whatever health precautions they deem necessary (including masks and vaccines) to protect students and staff.
Strongly Disagree
I don't believe that they have the ability to decide for all students and parents what is deemed necessary. That should be a decision made with input from all parents and others involved in the school community. It should be a joint decision, not a mandate from a school board or administration.
