QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

What role should the school serve in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy?

The school should play a strictly supportive role in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy. This involves working with parents and/or legal guardians to ensure the student has access to necessary resources such as pregnancy resource centers, health departments, community organizations, and faith-based support services. Specifically, schools should connect students with external resources for crisis pregnancies, this should be done by referring them to community resources rather than integrating these services directly into the school environment.

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Agree

I believe that the question of when human life begins and the extent of its legal protection is complex. I recognize the significance of conception in the discussion of human life but also support a balanced approach to legal protections. I value both the potential for life and the need to consider individual rights and circumstances throughout different stages of development. I advocate for policies that reflect respect for life while addressing practical considerations and diverse viewpoints.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Teachers should be required to instruct students on mandated curriculum even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Disagree

I believe in maintaining a consistent and comprehensive curriculum. However, requiring teachers to instruct on content that violates their moral or religious beliefs is problematic. We should respect teachers' convictions by allowing alternative teaching methods or team-teaching arrangements. This approach upholds educational standards while honoring individual beliefs, fostering a respectful and inclusive learning environment.

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

I firmly believe that free enterprise and the right to private property are fundamental pillars of a productive and prosperous economic system. Free enterprise encourages innovation, competition, and efficiency, driving economic growth and creating opportunities for individuals and businesses to thrive. The right to private property is essential for economic stability and personal freedom, as it provides individuals with security and incentive to invest, innovate, and contribute to the economy.

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

I believe that government funding of public education from Pre-K through college is essential for ensuring that all individuals have the opportunity to succeed and contribute to our society. A strong public education system is the foundation of a skilled and knowledgeable workforce, which is crucial for maintaining our country's economic competitiveness and social stability.

EDUCATION

Abortion and gender transitioning providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Disagree

Schools should focus on core education while providing information about external resources for students in crisis. This approach respects individual choice and ensures that students have access to necessary support without the school taking a direct role in controversial issues.

Consistent discipline creates a safe and orderly environment, which is essential for student learning.

Strongly Agree

I believe consistent discipline is crucial for creating a safe and orderly environment, essential for effective student learning. It promotes respect, responsibility, and focus, allowing teachers to teach and students to learn without disruptions. By maintaining clear and fair disciplinary policies, schools can foster a positive atmosphere conducive to academic success and personal growth.

Do you believe print and digital material available or presented to students should be easily accessible for public review, including those without children enrolled in school?

Yes

I believe in transparency and accountability in education. Print and digital materials available or presented to students should be easily accessible for public review, including those without children enrolled in school. This ensures that the community can stay informed and engaged, fostering trust and collaboration between schools and the public.

Educators should give students a thorough education in America's founding documents and cultivate American patriotism.

Strongly Agree

I believe educators should provide students with a thorough education in America's founding documents and cultivate American patriotism. This education should include an honest review of America's challenges and mistakes, as understanding both our achievements and shortcomings helps students make informed judgments about our nation's history and current issues. This balanced approach fosters an appreciation for our principles while encouraging critical thinking and engagement.

I support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

Neutral

I support many aspects of DEI that aim to create fair opportunities, fix disparities, and promote belonging. However, I believe there are certain elements within DEI that require further discussion and refinement. It's important to focus on approaches that genuinely foster inclusivity and equity for all while addressing any concerns about implementation and impact. I support initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion through voluntary means and respect for individual merit and rights.

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Disagree

While I support the essential role of the U.S. Department of Education in ensuring basic standards and providing critical funding, I believe in maximizing local control and flexibility to address community-specific needs. A balance between federal oversight and local autonomy can ensure educational quality and equity.

If a member of the public flags (challenges) a book as inappropriate and the school board disagrees, should the board impose a moratorium on when the book can be challenged again? If yes, for how long?

If a member of the public challenges a book as inappropriate and the school board disagrees, it may be reasonable to impose a moratorium on re-challenging the book to ensure stability and prevent ongoing disruptions. A moratorium of 1-2 years could provide a balanced period for assessing the book's place in the curriculum while allowing time for any significant changes or concerns to be addressed.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): American History, Art & Music, Civics, Critical Race Theory, Foreign Language, Gender Identity, Information Technology, Language Arts, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, Political Activism, Science, Sexuality, Social Emotional Learning, Vocational Learning

Language Arts Mathematics Science American History Civics Social Emotional Learning Personal Finances Information Technology Vocational Learning Art & Music Physical Fitness Foreign Language To effectively cluster these priorities, I would organize them into tiers based on their foundational importance and educational impact. For example, Math and Language Arts are of equal priority and would fall under the same tier of importance.

The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child instead of the bureaucracy, through a program which allows parents the freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.

Agree

I support the principle of school choice, but I have concerns about its impact on public schools and poor communities. I am also concerned about the quality of education in some private schools. It’s crucial to carefully evaluate how this model might affect overall educational equity and ensure that all students continue to have access to high-quality education.

Which should students have: equity of outcomes or equality of opportunities?

Students should ideally have both equity of opportunities and a focus on outcomes. Equality of opportunities ensures that all students have access to the same resources and chances to succeed, regardless of their background. Equity of outcomes aims to address disparities and ensure that all students achieve similar levels of success by providing additional support where needed. Striving for both helps create a fair and effective education system that supports all students.

Which type of written parental consent should be obtained before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Education (CSE)? (A) Opt-In. (B) Opt-Out. (C) None.

(A) Opt-In is preferred for CSE, ensuring parental consent before participation.

Who should make decisions about whether or not a book is appropriate for children? A) the elected school board members; B) an outsourced community committee

Decisions about book appropriateness should involve collaboration between school administrators, the school board, and the community. This ensures a balanced approach, integrating educational expertise with community values and oversight.

2ND AMENDMENT

The right to bear arms is fundamental and must be protected.

Strongly Agree

NC1068944 is my CCH permit number. I agree that the right to bear arms is fundamental and should be protected. This right is a key component of personal freedom and security. Ensuring that this right is upheld while also addressing concerns related to safety and responsible gun ownership is essential for maintaining a balanced approach to gun rights.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

In the event of a pandemic, school districts can mandate whatever health precautions they deem necessary (including masks and vaccines) to protect students and staff.

Disagree

I disagree with school districts having the authority to mandate health precautions like masks and vaccines during a pandemic. Such decisions should be guided by public health experts and authorities. Schools should collaborate with health officials to ensure safety, but ultimately, individual health decisions should remain with the person, not be dictated by government agencies.

ABOUT YOU

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Moderate

I consider myself moderate, striving for a balanced approach to various issues. At times, my views reflect a libertarian ethos, emphasizing individual freedom, limited government intervention, and personal responsibility. This perspective guides my approach to balancing traditional values with respect for personal liberties and practical governance. I am committed to staying curious and open-minded, and I expect my views to evolve as I remain receptive to new insights and perspectives.

VALUES

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

My spiritual beliefs are grounded in the principles of love, compassion, and respect for others. I deeply value justice for those who cannot defend themselves, and I strive to embody these values in my interactions and daily life. My faith guides me in fostering understanding and making positive contributions to my community. I believe that our actions should reflect our values, rather than simply professing them. Additionally, I advocate for a thoughtful and historically informed approach to faith and emphasize the importance of self-determination and personal responsibility.

Children have a right to reach maturity without chemical or surgical castration, which would damage their healthy bodies through surgeries and may cause a life-long dependence on cross-sex hormones.

Strongly Agree

I agree that children should reach maturity before undergoing irreversible medical procedures. Chemical or surgical interventions at a young age can have long-term consequences, including potential dependence on cross-sex hormones and physical alterations that may impact their health and well-being. Ensuring that such decisions are made with full maturity and understanding is crucial for protecting their long-term health and autonomy.

If sexual education is taught in schools, what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

If taught, sexual education should always be age appropriate and with parental consent. In early grades (K-5), it would focus on personal safety and body awareness. In middle school (6-8), introduce puberty, reproductive health, and respectful relationships. In high school (9-12), it would provide education on sexual health, contraception, STIs, and healthy relationships. Tailoring content to developmental stages would ensure students receive relevant and understandable information.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman essential to the formation and sustaining of a civil and prosperous society.

Disagree

Marriage is a personal and legal matter, and individuals should have the freedom to define it according to their values and preferences. The state’s role should be limited to ensuring that contracts are respected, without imposing a specific definition of marriage. Personal choice and individual rights are paramount.

Parents have the fundamental right to raise their child in accordance with their beliefs and values, including the right to make decisions about the child's education and healthcare.

Strongly Agree

Parents should have the freedom to raise their children according to their own beliefs and values, including decisions about education and healthcare. This approach supports individual liberty and minimizes government interference in personal family matters.

Parents should have full and timely access to any and all records, including school and medical records, associated with their minor children.

Strongly Agree

Parents should have unrestricted access to all records concerning their minor children, including school and medical records. This aligns with the principle of individual rights, ensuring parents can fully oversee their children's well-being and make informed decisions.

School children have the right to be protected from sexual grooming including drag shows and explicit materials with pictures of sex acts and graphic language.

Strongly Agree

While I do not specifically categorize drag shows as sexual grooming, I believe it is crucial to protect students from inappropriate content and ensure educational materials are suitable for their age. Maintaining a focus on respectful and appropriate content is key to safeguarding students' well-being and creating a positive learning environment. Explicit materials with graphic images and language are not appropriate for K-12 education.

Should schools be giving instruction on how to engage in sexual acts, the pleasures of sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity or should they instead focus on educating students about the science of reproduction?

No, schools should primarily focus on providing developmentally appropriate health education. However, qualified school personnel should be trained to support students, in concert with their parents, who seek guidance on specific sexual education topics.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Disagree

Voting is a fundamental right, and measures should be in place to ensure both accessibility and election integrity. While photo identification can help prevent fraud, it is important to eliminate all barriers for those who may face challenges in obtaining ID. Balancing security with accessibility helps ensure a fair electoral process.

EQUALITY

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Agree

We must balance the need to protect the integrity of women's sports and spaces with individual freedoms. Biological differences create disparities in sports, and preserving the privacy and safety of women's spaces is paramount. However, instead of blanket government mandates, private organizations should set their own policies. This allows tailored solutions that respect women's rights while also considering the needs of transgender individuals, promoting fairness, safety, and autonomy.
