QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Agree

I strongly oppose the use of taxpayer dollars to subsidize abortion services. At the same time, I support access to essential women's health care, including cancer screenings, contraception, and prenatal care, and I believe those services should be funded and delivered in ways that do not involve abortion providers.

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

Ideally, we should foster a culture in which women do not feel elective abortion is necessary at all. That means improving the adoption process and bolstering community resources to support women experiencing unplanned pregnancies. Acknowledging that this is a difficult moral issue, I believe rape/incest victims should have the latitude to choose whether to terminate their pregnancies. Medical emergencies are distinct from elective decisions and should be treated as such.

Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.

Agree

I believe human life has inherent dignity and deserves legal protection. In practice, that principle must be applied with compassion and sound judgment, including recognition of limited exceptions in tragic circumstances and respect for the role of medical professionals. Protecting life also means supporting mothers, families, and children after birth.

The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.

Agree

I believe human life deserves moral consideration at every stage. At the same time, these issues are complex and deeply personal, and public policy should be approached carefully to protect life without imposing unintended consequences on families pursuing fertility treatment.

The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.

Neutral

This is an unsettled legal issue that is currently being debated by federal courts. Any enforcement questions should be resolved through the judicial process and with clear guidance, rather than through political interpretation that could create confusion for patients or providers.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

It means the government may not establish an official religion or require adherence to a particular faith as a condition of participating in civic life, while also protecting the right of individuals and communities to freely practice their faith without government interference.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

No one should be forced by the government to violate sincerely held moral or religious beliefs. Courts have long recognized that protecting freedom of conscience is essential in a free society, including for professionals and small businesses, so long as basic access to services is not denied.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Strongly Agree

The Chinese Communist Party has demonstrated hostility toward U.S. interests through military expansion, cyber espionage, intellectual property theft, and economic coercion. Addressing these threats requires seriousness, vigilance, and cooperation with allies, all while recognizing the difference between the CCP and the Chinese people.

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

Yes. Israel is an important strategic partner and longstanding ally in a volatile region. Our relationship is rooted in shared democratic values and mutual security interests, while also allowing for honest dialogue and disagreement when appropriate, as with any close ally.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

C.

The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.

Strongly Disagree

While policymakers should understand healthcare costs at an aggregate level and seek to address root causes, maintaining government databases that track individuals’ medical conditions raises serious privacy, security, and civil liberty concerns.

ECONOMY

What is your position on the minimum wage?

I believe the best way to raise wages is to focus on developing our workforce through education and job training rather than issue government mandates that can unintentionally price people—especially young and low-skilled workers—out of work.

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

Free enterprise and the protection of private property are foundational to economic growth, personal freedom, and human flourishing. One of the core purposes of government is to impartially protect these rights so individuals can work, invest, and build for the future with confidence.

List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.

1. Reduce duplicative and unnecessary permitting requirements that delay housing, infrastructure, and business development and drive up costs for consumers. 2. Cut growing layers of administration and paperwork within state government and prioritize frontline services. 3. Use technology and process reform to reduce inefficiencies, delays, and redundancies that waste both taxpayer money and citizens’ time.

IMMIGRATION

I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.

Disagree

I do not support sanctuary policies that prevent cooperation with law enforcement or undermine the rule of law. I voted to prohibit sanctuary cities in North Carolina while continuing to support lawful immigration, due process, and humane treatment for all individuals.

EDUCATION

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Agree

Education decisions are best made close to students and families. I support returning more authority to states and communities, while ensuring federal responsibilities—especially for vulnerable students—are managed competently without bureaucratic micromanagement.

Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.

Agree

Foreign government funding of American education raises legitimate national security and influence concerns. Any restrictions must be narrowly tailored and consistent with the Constitution, including First Amendment protections.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?

The criminal justice system should protect public safety, uphold the rule of law, ensure fairness and due process, and hold offenders accountable while promoting rehabilitation where appropriate. Justice requires both accountability and proportionality.

Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.

Strongly Agree

We should do all we can within the bounds of the constitutional framework to protect children from sexual exploitation—during online activities or otherwise.

Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.

Agree

No religious legal system—of any faith—can supersede our constitutional system or be incorporated into American civil law.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

The Second Amendment protects an individual right to keep and bear arms. Public safety is best served by enforcing existing laws, focusing on violent offenders, and supporting responsible ownership, rather than imposing broad restrictions that burden law-abiding citizens.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

I'm a former constitutional law professor, and I hold conservative views rooted in limited government, individual liberty, personal responsibility, and equal application of the law. I approach policy with respect for constitutional boundaries and a belief that good governance requires both firm principles and practical judgment.

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No.

VALUES

Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.

Agree

Parents play a central role in their children’s upbringing and deserve respect and transparency in health and education decisions. Policies should support parental involvement while ensuring children receive appropriate care and safeguarding against unintended barriers to seeking help.

Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.

Disagree

Children experiencing gender-related distress deserve care, patience, and compassion. There is an important distinction between actively encouraging or medicalizing transition and taking a cautious, non-directive approach that allows time for development. Policy should protect children from irreversible harm while respecting parental involvement, parental autonomy, and appropriate medical standards.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Neutral

Marriage is a sacred institution within many faith traditions, and government has no authority to dictate how religious organizations define or practice it. At the same time, questions of civil marriage are governed by law and the U.S. Constitution. In any event, religious liberty must be fully protected.

I support the expansion of gambling in my state.

Disagree

I am concerned that expanded gambling often functions as a regressive tax, disproportionately harming lower-income communities and those struggling with addiction. Any expansion should be approached cautiously and with strong safeguards.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a Christian. I believe in the redeeming power of the Gospel and that faith calls us to seek justice, protect human dignity, and serve others with humility and compassion.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Disagree

We don't have to choose between secure elections and accessible elections. Reasonable photo ID requirements help protect election integrity and public confidence, while states should ensure IDs are accessible and no eligible voter is disenfranchised. Our laws strive to achieve this balance.

EQUALITY

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Strongly Disagree

Government policies should treat individuals as individuals, not as members of racial groups. Addressing inequality should focus on opportunity, education, and economic mobility, not race-based reparations that raise serious constitutional and fairness concerns.

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Agree

Sex-based distinctions exist in certain contexts to ensure safety, privacy, and fairness—particularly in athletics and intimate spaces. Policies should be guided by biology, common sense, and respect for everyone involved, without demeaning or dehumanizing individuals.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.

Neutral

Environmental stewardship is important, but our policies must be grounded in sound science, economic realism, and global cooperation. Solutions should balance environmental goals with energy affordability, reliability, and national security.

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

Nuclear power offers long-term reliable and sustainable baseload energy, but there are cost and regulatory barriers. In the near term, American natural gas can serve as a reliable bridge while we expand next-generation nuclear and grid capacity.
