RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
Medical decisions such as this should be a discussion between those directly affected and their respective medical professional(s). That said, in my own personal opinion (which does not pilot how I legislate), elective abortions are permissible when the life of the mother is in danger and/or the fetus is or would not be viable upon birth.
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Agree
Chemical abortion drugs should seldom be used, but to the statement above, I concur.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
With the understanding that organizations such as Planned Parenthood provide services beyond abortion, tax payer funds should not be utilized to willfully terminate the likely result of the actions of two consenting adults.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Agree
If the inevitable outcome is death, I support legislation that allows the patient and the family thereof to choose peace over the pain of losing a loved one slowly and/or painfully.
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Agree
What is your position on the minimum wage?
Minimum wage is intended to provide persons with a certain level of livability while the employee improves skills to achieve a higher position within the company or skills making them marketable to companies that provide increased wages and career.
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
Choose not to answer
More research is needed on my part to be able to answer.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
In times of crisis, people embrace their faith and need their respective churches to do so. Government should never interfere with the operations of a religious facility except in the cases of immediate danger or immediate risk to life by simply being within the structure.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
Absolutely not. Wholeheartedly disagree with this statement. To attempt to force individuals or businesses hands in this way is a direct violation of the U.S. Constitution and it infringes upon their religion and the free exercise of thereof. The beauty of our free enterprise system allows the consumer to choose where they do their business without government interference.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
B.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
There should be minimal involvement as far as government goes. Schools may require vaccines when the ailment is easily transmitted but the vaccine (backed by data, research, trials, and measurable results) would easily prevent/eradicate the disease.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Agree
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
The United States and Israel have long been allies. Relations with Israel are vitally important to the United States overall foreign policy in the Middle East. Further, the U.S.-Israel Free Trade Agreement keeps strong the bilateral economic relationship allowing for almost $50 billion in bilateral trade of goods and services every year.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Agree
To date, there have been millions of crossings. The crossing are not just people seeking a better life. Many have come to take advantage the systems meant to provide for our natural citizens. Criminals and drug runners have made super highway of the southern borders. Sanctuary states and cities have had their resources stretched incredibly thin. I have personal knowledge of this as the Police Department I work for had to pass an emergency policy on how to handle migrant busses.
EDUCATION
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.
Strongly Agree
Parents' freedom to choose must be preserved. To go a bit further, schools should base their curriculum directly on parental input through their elected school boards. Politicians and bureaucrats should not be deciding what gets taught in schools. Even further, state funds should be allocated based on need and merit. Parents should be included in the discussion of how those state dollars are spent and where.
VALUES
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Strongly Agree
Wholeheartedly agree. Gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation has no place among school aged children.
Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.
Strongly Agree
This statement should not even be up for debate. However, there are exceptions to this and processes in place to protect minor children as such cases arise.
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Strongly Disagree
No, full stop. No further discussion need to be had.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Agree
Gov't cannot change the historical definition of marriage. But, gov't can and should recognize and honor with all the same legal rights and benefits, Civil Unions. Two consenting persons entering into an agreement to be united in love and commitment should not be prevented by gov't processes. Euclid's Common Notion states, "Things which are equal to the same thing are also equal to each other." So, be it Marriage or Civil Union, the principle, rights, and benefits thereto shall remain the same.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
Raised in a Catholic family but as I grew, I anchored more in a non-denominational faith. I believe in the power of prayer and I've seen prayer work. My actions and how I live a life based in faith has guided me to this journey to be called upon as a public servant.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Agree
ID is needed for everything else in our world. It should 100% be required to carry out one of our most sacred civic duties.
iVoterGuide Notes:
Staff note: After evaluations occurred, candidate notified iVoterGuide that the intended answer to this question should have been: STRONGLY DISAGREE.
States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.
Disagree
No. The electoral college was established to prevent presidential candidates from winning elections simply by focusing on major cities, urban areas or dense media markets.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
I do not believe that it is. We live in one of the most inclusive times throughout American History. Do I believe there are small pockets of racially motivated person(s)? Of course! Just like every workplace has that "one bad employee." But those small pockets of misinformed and misguided individuals do not represent the position of the greater majority of the population. As of late, it has been a media fueled fire.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
I enthusiastically reject this line of thought.
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Disagree
How this ever became a topic for debate is beyond me. I strongly agree with the above statement.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.
C.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
The most reliable, safest, and sustainable source of clean energy is that provided by our nation's nuclear generating stations.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No.
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
Article 1, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution lays it out very simply. Government's job is to "provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States." Government is meant to protect the States and, collectively, the States will protect our government from any adversary of freedom. Government should be there to help the people improve their lives, not run their lives.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
My approach to governance is based on the mutual respect of all things. My views may differ for one or many, but I will always respect their views and keep an open mind to learn from other's approaches. Compromise begets the best policy. More than any party, I will always work with you and for you; never against you. At the end of the day, as President Kennedy once said, "We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children's future. And we are all mortal."
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Strongly Disagree
I do not support redirecting funds from police departments. Having been in law enforcement for 11 year now, I see the stranglehold that such a practice puts on even large departments. Funding of community programs can come from a variety of other sources without raising taxes. It's called fiscal responsibility.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
You can restrict all you want, criminals don't play by the rules. We have a hard enough time, right now, enforcing the laws we already have on the books. More restrictions are not going to solve any problem. Quite the contrary, they may create more problems. Gun ownership should be limited to the responsible and law abiding. And just as simply, gun ownership should be prohibited and the rights removed from those who are mentally unwell and are habitual criminals.
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
Allowed, yes. Required, no. I'm an advocate for School Resource Officers, perhaps even two to a school. However, if a school board wanted to entertain the idea of arming teachers, it would certainly be worth a listen. With proper and tight legislation and appropriate training, some teachers could be instrumental in ending a threat before it can become a tragedy when seconds count.
