From Campaign Website
- Scrolling across Taylor’s homepage it states:
- "Faith. Fairness. Fortitude."
- “It’s time for conservatives to take back our courts. As our next Chief Justice, Bryan Taylor will be guided by his faith, grounded in the rule of law, and fearless in standing on the truth and upholding the Constitution.”
- "Conservative Veteran"
- “Bryan Taylor is a former military prosecutor, an Iraq War veteran and a retired Army Judge Advocate. As Chief Justice, Bryan will lead our court system with the same courage and determination with which he served our state and country in time of war.”
- "Faith. Fairness. Fortitude."
- Taylor’s Objectives:
- "Defend Liberty and Justice for All"
- “Bryan has fought in the courts to defend religious liberty and protect conservative voices from being cancelled on woke college campuses. He also believes that every party to a case, not just one side, is entitled to justiceand fair treatment under law. Bryan will concentrate on bringing more effective training for judges, reducing the cost of litigation, and promoting more trustworthy outcomes in our courts.”
- “Restore the Rule of Law”
- “Bryan is an adherent of Scalia-style originalism. He believes in interpreting and applying the Constitution and other laws as they were written and intended by the Founders and our elected representatives in the legislative branch. As Chief Justice, Bryan will oppose judicial activism and weaponization of our system of justice, to ensure we remain a government of laws and not of men.”
- “Streamline the Judiciary”
- “As a former state senator and fiscal conservative, Bryan helped pass major budget reforms that streamlined the executive branch of state government, cut wasteful spending, and ushered in an era of greater accountability for the use of taxpayer dollars. He also sponsored the bill that repealed the legislature’s own pay raise. As Chief Justice, Bryan will ensure every tax dollar allocated to our courts is spent wisely.”
- “Take Veterans Courts Statewide"
- “As an Iraq veteran and a retired Army Judge Advocate in the Alabama National Guard, Bryan worked on establishing the first veterans treatment courts in Alabama, where veterans who come into contact with the justice system are rehabilitated through substance abuse treatmentand other programs to help veterans succeed. As Chief Justice, Bryan will establish Veterans Treatment Courts in all 67 counties.”
Judicial Philosophy:
- "I believe in the rule of law and open, accountable government. We support the efforts of Governor Ivey and Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl to protect our children from inappropriate or obscene material in our public, taxpayer-funded libraries. And ensuring public access to this list helps parents make informed decisions for our children." [Facebook post December 28, 2023]

- Compares his judicial philosophy to that of Justice Antonin Scalia. [see iVoterGuide Questionnaire]
QUESTIONNAIRE*
RIGHT TO LIFE
Was Dobbs v. Jackson rightly decided according to the text of the Constitution? Please explain.
Yes, Dobbs properly returned the issue of abortion to state control. Abortion is not a fundamental right under the U.S. Constitution. But the right to life is mentioned several times.
I support a right to accelerate ending a human life.
Strongly Disagree
Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.
Strongly Agree
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States.
Strongly Agree
While the U.S. Constitution guarantees our religious freedom, it seems it is constantly under attack, and we must be vigilant in protecting that freedom and standing against every infringement that whittles it away.
2ND AMENDMENT
The right to bear arms is fundamental and must be protected.
Strongly Agree
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
Which branch of government do you believe was intended to wield the most authority?
I believe the three branches are co-equal.
How should the court address public health and individual freedoms in the time of a public health emergency?
Law and Constitution
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
Which current or past U.S. Supreme Court justice best reflects your judicial philosophy?
Justice Antonin Scalia
Is there a separation of church and state in the Constitution? Please explain.
No, that language is not in the U.S. Constitution. The First Amendment does prohibit government establishment of religion, but it also protects the Free Exercise of religion. As the U.S. Supreme Court recently held in Kennedy v. Bremerton School District, the "endorsement test" of Lemon v. Kurtzman interpreted the Establishment Clause far too broadly and wrongly removed God from the public square in situations that the Founders never intended. With Kennedy, the right to "free exercise" of one's religion has been restored.
Should courts address threats to religious liberty in the United States? If so, how?
Courts should be guided by Kennedy v. Bremerton School District and other cases that are in "accor[d ] with history and faithfully reflec[t] the understanding of the Founding Fathers.”
Was Obergefell v. Hodges rightly decided according to the text of the Constitution? Please explain.
I share Justice Scalia's observation: "Today’s decree says that my Ruler, and the Ruler of 320 million Americans coast-to-coast, is a majority of the nine lawyers on the Supreme Court. The opinion in [this case] is the furthest extension in fact—and the furthest extension one can even imagine—of the Court’s claimed power to create “liberties” that the Constitution and its Amendments neglect to mention. This practice of constitutional revision by an unelected committee of nine, always accompanied (as it is today) by extravagant praise of liberty, robs the People of the most important liberty they asserted in the Declaration of Independence and won in the Revolution of 1776: the freedom to govern themselves."
Was Bostock v. Clayton County rightly decided under the law? Please explain.
No
I agree that “the custody, care and nurture of the child reside first in the parents, whose primary function and freedom include preparation for obligations the state can neither supply nor hinder.” (Troxel v. Granville, 530 U.S. 57, 65-66 (2000); quoting Prince v. Massachusetts, 321 U.S. 158, 166 (1944).
Strongly Agree
What should a judge do when legislative texts and court precedents dictate different results?
As Justice Kavanaugh wrote in Bostock, "Under the Constitution’s separation of powers, our role as judges is to interpret and follow the law as written, regardless of whether we like the result. ...Our role is not to make or amend the law." Judicially activist decisions must defer to the legislative text, so that we do not cease to be a government of laws.
When should a judge overturn past court decisions?
I tend to agree with Justice Thomas that we must not elevate "demonstrably erroneous decisions...over the text of the Constitution, and we should adhere to "the correct, original meaning of the laws [the courts] are charged with applying." Thomas explained, "The judicial task is modest: We interpret and apply written law to the facts of particular cases." A "demonstrably incorrect judicial decision...is tantamount to making law, and adhering to it...perpetuates a usurpation of the legislative power."
When, if ever, should a judge take popular opinion or the social views of the majority into consideration?
Never
Do you believe the meaning of the Constitution changes over time, absent changes through the amendment process of Article V?
No
What do you believe is the single most important quality a judge should possess?
Fortitude to apply the law as written, giving the law its public meaning at the time of enactment, even if it results in an unfavorable outcome. Lawmaking and law-amending is for the people's elected representatives in the legislature, and judges must stand against the usurpation of that legislative authority.
If you are an incumbent judge, describe a recent instance in which you acted to preserve your judicial independence. If you are an aspiring judge, how do you plan to remain independent if elected to the bench?
I will keep an open mind in all cases, regardless of my personal feelings or beliefs, considering how the arguments of the parties and their counsel comport with the law as written. I will avoid circumstances that cause any party to question my impartiality.
ABOUT YOU
What, if any, church or organizations do you belong to?
Double Oak Community Church in Birmingham, AL

I have voted in every Republican primary, every special election, and every general election since I was 18 years old.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No
Would you describe your judicial philosophy as originalist, living constitutionalist, or something else? Please explain.
I am a Scalia-style originalist.
VALUES
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Christian. I believe we are all sinners, and we are saved by the grace of God through the death and resurrection of his Son, Jesus Christ, if we believe and accept that grace. Because we are saved by grace, we should seek to live according to the example of Christ, always growing in our faith.
What is your view of parental rights regarding the upbringing of children, specifically education and sexual "identity"?
Parents have a fundamental right to direct the upbringing of their children. Homeschooling, private school, and charter schools are viable alternatives to public education. As an attorney, I represented the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty in defending religious schools from being discriminatorily excluded from the state's first voucher program. Parents have a right to be notified/involved if a child's sexual "identity" ever becomes an issue.
I support "gender identity" as a specially protected class. Please explain.
Strongly Disagree
As Chief Justice, it will be my duty to apply the law as written and originally understood. There is nothing in Alabama law or the U.S. Constitution that makes "gender identity" a constitutionally protected class, and no judge should ever legislate that from the bench.
What do you believe to be true about the human condition?
All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23. We can be saved from death by faith in Jesus Christ, the son of God, who was nailed to a cross for our sins.
EQUALITY
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT).
Strongly Disagree
