QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

That depends on the individual. While I am not "pro abortion," I do not favor total legislative bans and support reasonable restrictions. I do not favor the policies of New York state, but feel the most recent 6 week ban in Florida creates a host of enforcement and legal issues which may have unintended consequences. I worry about the formation of a black market of unregulated abortions and about the fate of IVF. Legal uncertainty may influence a doctor's ability to provide the safest care.

Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.

Neutral

I agree that any drugs should meet essential safety standards and a doctor should be consulted in the process; however, if the law is written to allow some access to abortion, then the state should not create unnecessary obstacles to access.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Neutral

While I believe abortion is too divisive of an issue to be funded by taxpayers, I see an increased expense to taxpayers if we do not support non profit organizations who offer mammograms, contraception or prenatal care. Non profits privately fundraise to offset the costs of patient care, but if all those tasks fall only to public health departments, then taxpayers will bear the entirety of the cost of those services.

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Neutral

I am not entirely farmiliar with the various state laws pertaining to end of life care; however, my own experience with my mother's death in a hospice facility, included palliative care to ease her suffering in the end. I would not support any laws that denied individuals the right to palliative care for the patient at the end of life.

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Agree

I agree in basic principle, however there are some caveats. Private property rights do not trump a community's right to approve responsible development and infrastructure planning. Property rights do not extend to the ability to negatively impact the property value of other property. Additionally, when any private market is subsidized by taxpayers (such as the recent re-insurance bail out to Florida's property insurance companies) then those industries can be regulated to aid the consumer.

What is your position on the minimum wage?

I have been a small business owner since 2008 & I have always paid above the minimum wage. Affordability has so outpaced the state & federal minimums that most businesses could not retain employees by paying the minimum wage anyway.

Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?

No

Public money should be safely invested in ways that promote the highest level of return, with minimum risk; however, ethical considerations should absolutely be given to investments that are not overly controversial or damaging to society at large.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

The Supreme Court has ruled that some worship practices are not protected by the First Amendment, such as illegal drug use, ritualistic animal sacrifices, child abuse or child marriage. Any churches breaking the law runs the risk of legal scrutiny on a case by case basis. The Johnson Amendment also ensures that churches who use the pulpit to advocate for political candidates risk losing their tax free status. I am a very religious person, but I believe in the separation of church and state.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Agree

The Supreme Court has ruled that discrimination in public accommodations, restaurants, and services is unconstitutional based on the Fourteenth Amendment, and I generally agree with that ruling. Exactly who is included in those protections is sometimes up for debate, but my thought is that every natural born or naturalized American is protected from public discrimination. Businesses do, however, have the right to refuse service to rude or disruptive individuals at any time.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

Healthcare insurance co-funded by the government should be available, along with private healthcare options. Most small business owners and individual contractors do not quality for group plans, so our health insurance rates are astronomical. We need a basic public option if the private market cannot offer an affordable alternative.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

In Florida, the state requires vaccinations for children in school to prevent the spread of infections disease; however parents are able to opt out for health concerns or religious exemptions.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Agree

Russia also poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States. I do not understand why politicians would focus on one and not the other. I am a child of the Cold War, and I do not trust the motives of Vladimir Putin.

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
