QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Agree
There are exceptions for life-threatening circumstances. However, we don't write laws for the exceptions; we write laws for everyone, and write exceptions for the exceptions.
What role should the school serve in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy?
I believe that schools should serve the purpose of education, and other social institutions should serve other purposes such as unwanted or crisis pregnancies. A school should partner with a student's parents and be able to point the family towards community, state, and federal resources available, but a school should not seek to involve itself into social services and other outreaches. Education tax dollars should be focused on education, and not mingled with other services.
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?
I hold many opinions on this subject, depending on what specific perspective is being discussed. Overall, I feel that funding education by means of property taxes is not ideal. But given that it's the system we currently have, we must work with it by being vigilant with our spending and not placing undue tax burdens on our communities. I value public education and feel that K-12 education (not Pre-K through college) should be one of the priorities of government funding.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Teachers should be required to refer to students by pronouns which are misaligned with their gender at birth even if it would violate the teacher's moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
There are two genders. Teachers should refer to students as their scientifically correct gender, the gender assigned to them by their chromosomal order. I do not view this as a religious belief issue.
EDUCATION
Abortion and gender-affirming providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.
Strongly Disagree
Parents and families can choose what outreaches and social services best serve their needs outside of our schools. Schools should focus on academic, fine art, and athletic education.
Consistent discipline creates a safe and orderly environment, which is essential for student learning.
Agree
I would replace the word "Consistent" in this statement with the word "Balanced". Discipline is an essential part of creating a safe and orderly environment.
Educators should give students a thorough education in America's founding documents and cultivate American patriotism.
Strongly Agree
In Texas, the TEKS are already aligned with the above statement. I agree that it is essential to teach our children the foundations of our nation, and to encourage patriotism and pride in our great nation. I would add, that our children need to be taught the sacrifices made by the generations before them to ensure their freedom.
I support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
Strongly Disagree
I support hiring the most qualified, experienced, and reputable educators and support staff, entirely regardless of race.
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Agree
I wish that the U.S. Department of Education was efficient enough that I could disagree with this statement. However, it's not working, so I support moving to something that will be more successful for our children and our communities.
Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): American History, Art & Music, Civics, Critical Race Theory, Foreign Language, Gender Identity, Information Technology, Language Arts, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, Political Activism, Science, Sexuality, Social Emotional Learning, Vocational Learning
From this list, the following would tie for first priority: American History, Civics, Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. The following would be close behind those first priorities: Art & Music and Vocational Learning Third priorities in my opinion would be: Foreign Language, Information Technology, Personal Finances, and Physical Fitness The rest of that list is omitted as I do not feel that those things should be taught at k-12 public school.
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child instead of the bureaucracy, through a program which allows parents the freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.
Agree
This is a very complex issue that cannot be easily summed up into a short statement. But I feel that if public schools are serving the community well, they should receive maximum funding to continue to do so. And if they're not serving us well, then we need to make changes until they do, including not throwing more money into something that isn't working. I do not feel that what has been laid out so far for a "voucher" program is a strong or sustainable solution yet. It needs more development.
Which should students have: equity of outcomes or equality of opportunities?
Life is not simply summed up by phrases like "equity of outcomes" or "equality of opportunities". How many circumstances can you think of in your life where you had to create your own opportunities? How many times have you put in more effort than your peers and watched them excel for seemingly unfair reasons? While others may be focused on what's most fair and equitable, it will be the students who are focused on their own inner drive who will find the most successes.
Which type of written parental consent should be obtained before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Education (CSE)? (A) Opt-In. (B) Opt-Out. (C) None.
I feel that opt-in consent is most appropriate for that type of education.
VALUES
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I will refrain, and let my actions speak for my values.
Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?
Sexual education should mostly be taught at home, by parents. It should be taught before social exposure to sexual topics happens. This age may vary for each child or each community. Basic scientific understanding of human sexual reproduction should be included in health and science curriculums.
If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- abortion methods and side effects; abstinence; consent; contraceptive methods; human anatomy/the reproductive system; physical and emotional health outcomes; sex acts and pleasures of sex; sexual orientation and gender identity; stages of pregnancy and fetal development
Texas Education Code (TEC) currently mandates that any sexual education given in Texas public schools must center on abstinence, and I agree with this TEC Code for several reasons. I feel that public school sex ed should also include basic education on human reproduction, human anatomy, stages of pregnancy and fetal development, and sexually transmitted diseases.
Children have a right to reach maturity without chemical or surgical castration, which would damage their healthy bodies through surgeries and may cause infertility and a life-long dependence on cross-sex hormones.
Strongly Agree
Children have the right to be protected from hypersexualization (including drag shows and explicit materials) in schools and libraries.
Strongly Agree
Children should not be sexualized.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman essential to the formation and sustaining of a civil and prosperous society.
Strongly Agree
Parents have the fundamental right to raise their child in accordance with their beliefs and values, including the right to make decisions about the child's education and healthcare.
Strongly Agree
Parents have a fundamental responsibility to provide their child with food, shelter, and an education. If those parental responsibilities are being met, and barring things that would constitute abuse, such as physically altering a child's body to support a parent's beliefs and values, I strongly agree with this statement.
Parents should have full and timely access to any and all records, including school and medical records, associated with their minor children.
Strongly Agree
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
Allowing voting without proper identification does not support election laws or the intent of the election process.
EQUALITY
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports.
Strongly Agree
Not only do I agree with this statement, but I think that the only place this is truly in question is in the media, for reasons of sensationalism and polarization.
Biological males should not be allowed to occupy women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, women's shelters, prisons, or sororities.
Strongly Agree
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No.
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No
I voted in these primaries and general elections:
Choose not to answer
If memory serves me well, I have voted in all of the above Republican Primaries and General Elections. However, I am choosing not to answer just incase my memory fails me and I have missed any of them.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
2ND AMENDMENT
Faculty who are licensed to carry and have had ongoing training should be allowed to carry guns at school in order to respond to an active shooter situation.
Strongly Agree
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
In the event of a pandemic, school districts can mandate whatever health precautions they deem necessary (including masks and vaccines) to protect students and staff.
Strongly Disagree
School districts do not have authority over parent health decisions. In a pandemic, school districts should offer flexible options for families who decide that in person attendance is not the best option for their children.
