QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Strongly Disagree

Schools need to focus on academics and allow parents to raise their children. No third-party vendors should meet with any students especially without parental consent.

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Agree

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Agree

School districts should be able to use taxpayer money for lobbying the state legislature.

Disagree

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

I am not in support of federal or universal preschool. Parents need to have a right to choose what educational program is best for their child as not all children are the same. Education should not ever be a one size fits all approach. Once a student completes high school, they are adults and should make choices that invest in their future. Some students may find success outside of college and that should be applauded just as the high school scholar who seeks higher education, but I would not support additional government funding. We already have a student loan crisis in our nation, without adding more debt to it.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.

Strongly Agree

Americans have constitutional rights, and I will support them as our founding fathers proposed for our great nation.

School districts should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Agree

Discrimination has no place in any form of education. We should provide a hostile free environment for all families, students and staff at all times.

EDUCATION

What is the function of the local school board?

The function of the school board it to develop, implement and assess policies for students, staff and educators. We ensure accountability of the superintendent and overall goals of the district set by the board. As well as monitor and adopt the school district budget, curriculum and compliance with state and federal laws. The most important function is to represent and listen to the community in which we are elected to serve.

Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?

It is a joint effort. The State Board of Education helps sets standards on core areas and the district designs curriculum to engage the standards. The local Board of Education has oversight to make sure the curriculum is meeting the standards as well as the academic goals set by the Board. I believe in all areas of education there should be committees that obtain input from students, educators and parents. Together we determine appropriate resources.

When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?

Never. The Board is elected by the people FOR the people. Parents are always welcome to partner with the district and the board should listen.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning

Literacy/Language Arts, American History, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Science, Vocational Learning, Physical Fitness, Art & Music, Information Technology

Which more closely matches your view of America's founding principles? A) Liberty and equality. B) Slavery and racism.

A) All people are created equal.

What does "equity in education" mean to you?

Each student would be given what is needed to develop their full academic potential.

Written parental consent (opt-in) must be obtained before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL).

Strongly Agree

The loss of local control in education is too high a price to pay in exchange for federal dollars.

Agree

Although, we need to work smart. The more the decisions can be made locally the better for the people. We do not want federalize education "locally". Before any federal dollars were cut, the community would need to have committees to oversee such cuts and they would need to know exactly how they would be impacted. It really all comes down to transparency.

Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.

Strongly Agree

Our society should want children to thrive. That looks very different for many students, and I am in support of putting students first!

School boards are accountable to parents and taxpayers.

Strongly Agree

1000%

Do you believe students should have access to materials that graphically depict and describe sexual acts?

No

I would like to expand the reading committee for selection of books and survey parents of needs in our classroom libraries.

All print and digital material available or presented to students should be easily accessible for public review.

Strongly Agree

Many districts currently hide behind copyright laws. There should be NO secrets in what children are being taught in school. Transparency is still greatly needed, and we can work together with educators to improve this area specifically without state legislation.

Do you believe print and digital material available or presented to students should be easily accessible for public review, including those without children enrolled in school.

Yes

Again, it shouldn't be a secret what is being taught in our schools. I am not sure who would all want this information from the outside or why, but I would like to see more districts be open about what is being taught and reduce the divisiveness that is wreaking havoc right now in our communities.

VALUES

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I believe in one God, eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Strongly Disagree

I support the Fairness in Women's Sports Act

No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.

Strongly Agree

Parents should always be involved, and no secrets should be kept from any child's guardian.

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.

Strongly Agree

Elective procedures should wait until a child can legally medically consent.

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

Age-appropriate sexual education is appropriate under the health curriculum. If curriculum was more transparent, parents would know what was being taught and in what manner prior to exposure. Again, I think the conversations should begin at home, but as long as parents are aware what and when this education is being instructed, they could choose to opt in or opt out. I would also like abstinence to be stressed again in sexual education in schools.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex

Human Anatomy/the reproductive system, abstinence, physical and emotional outcomes, stages of pregnancy and fetal development, contraceptive methods.

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.

Agree

I support allowing public middle and high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Strongly Disagree

As a mother of two female athletes, and a female athlete myself I believe in the fairness of women's sports.

Biological males should be allowed in female locker rooms and bathrooms.

Strongly Disagree

I would support single stalls being utilized by all students within a school facility. Single stalls are a good compromise for all students to feel as they have privacy in our schools. Just as kindergarten classrooms have a single restroom in their classroom, there are ways schools can accommodate this topic to make it less divisive in the community.

No school official should be involved in the social or medical transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.

Strongly Agree

No unless a parent has opted in. Otherwise, birth names should be used for identification purposes.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

I believe election integrity is a core issue and our elections need to be both fair and auditable.

ABOUT YOU

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No

A candidate's personal moral values are relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.

Agree

School board candidates need to care about kids and education most importantly. All decisions need to be students first not about the individual board member.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

Did not answer

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

Vote GILMORE in November to put Students First in Olathe! We are at a pivotal point in our education and need voters to show up! I am not endorsed by a variety of pacs. A grassroots candidate can only win if parents, grandparents, taxpayers and students unite because they want better for their local community.

I voted in these primaries and general elections:

2ND AMENDMENT

Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.

Agree

Most teachers say they do not want this though. Olathe coordinates with our local law enforcement in many of our schools. Parents and educators feel that is a good solution to teachers carrying but those officers should absolutely be armed. I can understand a teacher not wanting to have to shoot a child so this should never be mandated. This is a tough issue and not what school staff signed up for, so I am empathic to hearing their concerns regardless of my support of the 2nd amendment.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

Under what circumstances (if any) should schools be allowed to require vaccinations?

I support our Kansas exemptions for vaccinations.

I support mask mandates.

Strongly Disagree

All official open meetings should be live streamed, recorded, and have transcripts available online for public access.

Strongly Agree

The Board of Education is elected by the people FOR the people. Meetings should be open and available to the public.

All votes should be roll call votes and recorded in meeting minutes.
