QUESTIONNAIRE*

*Additional information was received after the evaluation was assigned and was not considered in the Panel Evaluations, therefore it is for additional educational purposes only.
RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Strongly Disagree

There is absolutely NO reason that this should be considered.

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Agree

There should be consideration given for the medical life of the mother if this is an issue.

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

This is an area that I feel strongly is a centerpiece of our country and needs to be taught to our children more rigorously.

School districts should be able to use taxpayer money for lobbying the state legislature.

Strongly Disagree

This is something for the administration and taxpayers to handle.

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

K-12 is in the Kansas Constitution and is required by law. I believe that Pre-K and college should be handled as it has been with help for the poor.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.

Strongly Agree

Their is a fallacy that their is freedom "from religion." In fact we have a freedom "OF religion", and this is part of our freedom of speech.

School districts should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

While legal precedent has been set for gay marriage, I do not believe someone should be punished for a religious conviction on this.

EDUCATION

What is the function of the local school board?

To be the interface of the public and the school administration. They have a responsibility to be a watchdog for taxpayers and to set the mission for the school, which the administration is bound to administer. They have a financial responsibility to make sure that citizens are taxed only at the level to provide an adequate and appropriate education. In today's world they should also be on the lookout for those who would try to introduce distractions and agendas beyond that, and manage them through the administration.

Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?

I think that the school board directs the administration to provide an appropriate, classical, education curriculum. I think that parents have the ultimate control over their children in partnership with the teachers. They also have the right and responsibility to communicate with the school board when they discover things that do not meet their child's needs and the parents desires.

When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?

I believe that they should be restricted from addressing issues with specific employees at board meetings. But outside of that, they should be given a reasonable amount of time to address their concerns during the public portion of the meeting.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning

Mathamatics, Science, American History, Language Arts, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, Art & Music, Foreign Language, Informational Technology and Vocational Learning.

Which more closely matches your view of America's founding principles? A) Liberty and equality. B) Slavery and racism.

Liberty and equality. Sad that this question even needs to be asked.

What does "equity in education" mean to you?

Equity is a function of outcome. Equality is a function of opportunity. Every student should have access to the tools to succeed in preparing for the next phase of life. But free will dictates that some will be more willing to do so than others. In elementary and junior high there needs to be an expectation of effort. But as a student progresses through high school that transitions to encouragement with real consequences for non-performance. But ultimately a high school diploma needs to be earned and not just granted.

Written parental consent (opt-in) must be obtained before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL).

Strongly Agree

SEL is too broadly defined. When it is traditional good citizenship and character, without the social agenda, I believe these have been and should remain a constant pursuit.

The loss of local control in education is too high a price to pay in exchange for federal dollars.

Strongly Agree

Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.

Strongly Agree

Public education has to EARN the trust with parents to educate their children. It is a parent's absolute right to do what they feel is best for their child.

School boards are accountable to parents and taxpayers.

Strongly Agree

100%

Do you believe students should have access to materials that graphically depict and describe sexual acts?

No

Vetted sex education materials that have been used for decades need to be the most graphic thing they experience within school walls.

All print and digital material available or presented to students should be easily accessible for public review.

Strongly Agree

Do you believe print and digital material available or presented to students should be easily accessible for public review, including those without children enrolled in school.

Yes

All taxpayers finance this and have a right to view it.

VALUES

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a Christian who believes that all life is precious. I also believe in the liberty for someone to practice their faith as they see fit.

I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Strongly Disagree

No person has a right to participate in sports outside of their biological sex. This is no different than those sports that have limits on the team size based on talent level. This is now state law in Kansas.

No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.

Strongly Agree

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.

Strongly Agree

This is actually state law in Kansas.

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

I believe the parents should be the first to teach their children. That being said, the schools have used an agreed upon curriculum for years that is available for those families that wish to utilize it. This typically starts (beyond "good touch bad touch") in junior high.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex

Human anatomy/the reproductive system, abstinence until marriage, stages of pregnancy and fetal development.

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

I support allowing public middle and high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Strongly Disagree

Kansas law forbids this from happening.

Biological males should be allowed in female locker rooms and bathrooms.

Strongly Disagree

No, no, no! State law in Kansas dictates that they may not.

No school official should be involved in the social or medical transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.

Strongly Agree

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

I strongly agree with the requirement of voter ID. It is the law in Kansas.

ABOUT YOU

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No

A candidate's personal moral values are relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.

Strongly Agree

No one is perfect, but good morals are a standard that I believe is important in a person who holds a position in office.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

For adults I do have libertarian leanings in some areas. That is because I am a BIG believer in personal liberty.

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

Recent articles in The Manhattan Mercury newspaper and at 1350KMAN.com news radio station.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I am a long time resident who cares deeply about kids, but also understands and honors the investment that taxpayers make. My main three positions are summed up with Parents First, Wise Budgets and Proper Mission.

I voted in these primaries and general elections:

2014 Republican Primary 2014 General Election 2016 Republican Primary 2016 General Election 2018 Republican Primary 2018 General Election 2020 Republican Primary 2020 General Election 2022 Republican Primary 2022 General Election

Also, every off year election that has had candidates or issues to vote on.

2ND AMENDMENT

Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.

Neutral

I believe that there should be a group of teachers and administration in schools with access to securely locked weapons for protection of staff and students. They should be trained in proper usage of the weapons. This would provide a deterrent from someone doing something that they shouldn't do.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

Under what circumstances (if any) should schools be allowed to require vaccinations?

Once a vaccine has a long (multi-year) history of success, such as polio or measles, I believe that this is reasonable. Religious exceptions should be allowed.

I support mask mandates.

Strongly Disagree

They have been found to be ineffective and a total failure in the learning environment. I believe that sick children should stay at home until they are better, but that wholesale masking makes zero sense.

All official open meetings should be live streamed, recorded, and have transcripts available online for public access.

Strongly Agree

All votes should be roll call votes and recorded in meeting minutes.
