QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Neutral

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Choose not to answer

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Choose not to answer

School districts should be able to use taxpayer money for lobbying the state legislature.

Agree

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

I fully support public education from Pre-K to college. Government funding of pubic education is essential to providing access to education to people who may not have been able to afford it otherwise, including those from low-income families. Additionally, investing in education can help ensure that our city, state, and country remains competitive on a global level by producing a skilled and educated workforce.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.

Strongly Agree

School districts should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Neutral

EDUCATION

What is the function of the local school board?

The function of the local school board is to set educational goals for the district, to hire and evaluate school administrators, to approve the district budget and resource allocation, to approve curriculum and instructional materials, to engage with the community to promote pubic education and address issues, and to advocate to the needs of the school district and its students at a local, state and national level. Overall, the SBISD Board of Trustees plays a crucial role in ensuing students receive the high-quality education that they deserve and that the needs of our SBISD community are met.

Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?

Curriculum setting and decisions around classrooms resources should be a collaborative process, backed by research and data, as close to the student as possible. I do not believe in blanket, one-size-fits-all approaches in instruction and, therefore, we should trust our school administrators and teachers to use approved materials to the best of their ability in the classroom.

When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?

Parents should never be restricted from speaking in school board meetings, unless there is a threat to the safety of the parent, elected officials, or other community members. School boards must respect the first amendment rights of all community members and elevate transparency and encourage participation.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning

Which more closely matches your view of America's founding principles? A) Liberty and equality. B) Slavery and racism.

The founding of America was complex and involved many different factors, including both racism and slavery, as well as liberty and equality. One of the most famous documents in our history, the Declaration of Independence, proclaimed that "all men are created equal" and they are endowed with certain unalienable rights, including life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. However, it is also equally true that slavery was legal and institutionalized in the colonies and the United States after independence for decades. Additionally, Native Americas were subjected to genocide, discrimination, and displacement by Europeans, and their land and resources were often taken without consent or compensation. So, my view of America's found principals is as complex as the truth.

What does "equity in education" mean to you?

Equity in education means that every student has the opportunity to flourish, regardless of their background or circumstances. It means the elimination of achievement gaps and the promotion of social mobility. I strongly believe that every child, no matter what zip-code they live in, no matter which side of a highway they live on, and regardless of how large of a PTA budget their school has, should have access to high-quality education opportunities and resources. Every Child should have access to the best teachers, to modern facilities, and a curriculum that meet's their needs.

Written parental consent (opt-in) must be obtained before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL).

Neutral

The loss of local control in education is too high a price to pay in exchange for federal dollars.

Neutral

Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.

Choose not to answer

School boards are accountable to parents and taxpayers.

Agree

School boards are accountable to all eligible voters, not only parents and taxpayers.

Do you believe students should have access to materials that graphically depict and describe sexual acts?

Choose not to answer

All print and digital material available or presented to students should be easily accessible for public review.

VALUES

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

My top three values are service, respect, and compassion.

I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Strongly Agree

No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.

Strongly Disagree

School officials should respect all student's names and pronouns.

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.

Choose not to answer

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

I believe Sex Ed should be taught in schools beginning as early as 7th grade. Sex education is good public health policy. Research shows effective sex education can reduce unintended pregnancies, prevent transmission of STIs, promote healthy relationships, and reduce sexual violence. I also understand that sexual education in schools comes with challenges from cultural and religious conflicts, to age-appropriateness questions, to ensuring parents are involved in a child education. I believe these challenges can be addressed through careful planning, consultation with parents and community members, and appropriate teacher training and support.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex

Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; an understanding that sex should not include feelings of shame

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

As an educator, I have firsthand experience in identifying the strengths and areas for growth in our schools. That's why I'm running for the SBISD school board - our children need a dedicated advocate who will speak up for them. As a first-generation American, I understand the power of education and the opportunities it provides for families like mine. I excelled in school because I saw it as a chance to make my family proud and achieve the dreams of my grandparents for their children and grandchildren. I'm committed to realizing my own dreams of living in an equitable America. My family valued education above all else, and I quickly learned that their sacrifices, hard work, and dedication would be in vain if I didn't work as hard as they did. This same level of commitment is what our students bring to school every day, and it's up to us as a district to show the same resolve to achieve better student outcomes. I believe in the power of community, and with your help, we can be strong advocates for our students in Spring Branch. That's why I'm asking for your support and your vote for the SBISD Board of Trustees, Position 1.

2ND AMENDMENT

Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.
