School districts should be able to use taxpayer money for lobbying the state legislature.

Neutral

Depending on the cause, I do think that School Districts should have the ability to lobby for a cause when it is extremely important. For example, if there are laws being proposed that would take away from the core mission of the district to give equality of education but I would be opposed to using lobbying for values not shared by the community.

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

I believe it is important to support the K-12 so that every student has equality of opportunity. As for Pre-K I would consider that possibility of government funding because there is, in some cases, a growing need. College is not something I would support government funding, I believe that there are already many opportunities for those who graduate from high school and work hard towards a professional career. I myself do not have a college education but I think that if I were to seek higher education that it would be based on my own ability to afford it or scholarship assistance.

Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?

The process should be that the the learning and education committee select evidence based curriculum and the administration and superintendent to determine the resources required as well as decision on proceeding. I would then expect the board of education to be involved and ultimately vote for approval.

VALUES

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

My faith and identity are in God, I believe that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son and I had a personal encounter with Him that changed me forever. I believe it is our mission to love our neighbor and treat everyone with dignity. By the grace given to us, showing love and leading by example we help spread the values of God.

I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Strongly Disagree

I believe it is important to protect sports that are based on biological gender. It saddens me to see girl sport achievements wiped away in some situations where it was made possible for biological boys to participate. It is important we protect our students from such things.

No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.

Agree

I very much agree with the above statement but I do want to put in an exception. I believe as part of the school not getting involved we do have to listen to the parents as primary care and decision makers. If parents are in the process of transitioning their children, even if I personally disagree with this, and the parents ask the district to now refer to their child by a new name that it should be honored. In all other cases of the school promoting or pushing there should be no involvement.

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

I believe this is the role of the parents. I also believe that with consent by the parents on a known curriculum and lesson plan the school can teach sexual education as an academic learning education.
