QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Strongly Disagree

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Agree

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Agree

School districts should be able to use taxpayer money for lobbying the state legislature.

Neutral

If the school district is lobbying for additional funds to the district, I agree.

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

I believe in an equal right to education through High School. Anything after HS, whether continuing education or vocational training, is a personal decision and should be funded by the individual.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.

Neutral

Students should be able to have open dialogue on a variety of topics, as long as there is civil discourse. This would include discussions around all religions, not just one in particular. On the other end, I don't believe that religion should be taught in the public school system.

School districts should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Agree

EDUCATION

What is the function of the local school board?

To partner with the Superintendent and other ISD staff to run the business of the district in an efficient and cost-effective manner. It is also to adhere to state legislature and UIL guidance, and not go beyond, which would expose the district to legal risks.

Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?

The Texas State legislature and UIL

When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?

I don't believe in restricting free speech, short of abusive language towards district staff or other community members. A School Board meeting is not the forum for such dialogue

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning

Mathematics, Science, Language Arts, American History, Information Technology, Personal Finances, Vocational Learning, Physical Fitness, Art & Music, Foreign Language

Which more closely matches your view of America's founding principles? A) Liberty and equality. B) Slavery and racism.

Liberty and equality

What does "equity in education" mean to you?

Presenting the ability for potential equal outcomes for every child of the district. An example would be providing support services for children that have learning impairments, such as dyslexia.

Written parental consent (opt-in) must be obtained before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL).

Agree

The loss of local control in education is too high a price to pay in exchange for federal dollars.

Agree

As long as the local control aligns with state and UIL policies.

Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.

Agree

Yes, parents should be able to pursue any options that are available to them, and meet the standard of providing a quality education through the HS level.

School boards are accountable to parents and taxpayers.

Strongly Agree

The sole purpose of the School Board is to help district staff/Superintendents run the business of the district in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

Do you believe students should have access to materials that graphically depict and describe sexual acts?

No

Such a thing should be a family-based decision, and if tied to school, should be grade/age-appropriate

All print and digital material available or presented to students should be easily accessible for public review.

Agree

I agree that transparency with parents is very important, when tied to what their children are learning in school

VALUES

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I respect everyone's right to a belief system, including my own, regardless of what that belief system entails. I don't believe a specific belief system should be impressed in the public school system. I would hope that our children are raised to be able to have civil discourse, while also treating everyone with respect, regardless of any difference in viewpoints.

I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Disagree

No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.

Agree

I agree with the first part of this question, but believe for the second part, that being involved is a different topic than being required to do so. I don't believe that school officials should be required to do so, if it doesn't match their personal belief system.

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.

Agree

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

Family should be primary. I was taught such things from a school/class perspective in Middle School. I am not an expert in this field, so I can't provide the best age for such discussions.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex

I will defer this question to folks that are more knowledgeable on these topics, as it relates to formal education.

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.

Neutral

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Disagree

ABOUT YOU

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No

A candidate's personal moral values are relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.

Agree

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Lean Conservative

I am a Republican, but also believe in the value of taking each issue with its own merits/information/data, regardless of how any political party might tell you how you should view an issue.

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

Primary voting records over the last 10+ years

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

While I am a Republican, I very much believe in the ability to have civil discourse, regardless of political leaning. Local ISD elections should be about the local community, local history, local direction, and what is best for our children in their educational/career pursuits, not tied to any political agendas (either Republican or Democrat-leaning).

2ND AMENDMENT

Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.

Neutral

I understand the arguments both for and against such a topic, and am still developing my opinion on how it relates to the school system.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

Under what circumstances (if any) should schools be allowed to require vaccinations?

Per any Federal/State health requirements for the school system, and with any relevant exception criteria

I support mask mandates.

Neutral

Only for the amount of time to deem that public health risk is no longer severely threatened by any airborne disease

All official open meetings should be live streamed, recorded, and have transcripts available online for public access.

Agree

All votes should be roll call votes and recorded in meeting minutes.
