QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Neutral

there should be info, but seeing that the children are minors that it should also be something that is ran by the parents/guardians. Permission slips given out before the organizations come to the school. Elbaration as to what their purpose is for visiting and an outline of what they plan to teach or inform the kids about. Parents are parents and at the end of the day they should be the one to determine who, when, and whether or not they would like others to have conversations with their child.

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Agree

I personally believe that no child's life should be taken, but there are certain instances to where there may be life threatening issues for both the child and the mother, in which the mother should be the one who is able to decide what she see's to be fit for her and her unborn child.

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

Free enterprise being: (1) freedom of choice, (2) private property rights, (3) profit motive of the owner, (4) owner control

School districts should be able to use taxpayer money for lobbying the state legislature.

Agree

School districts should be able to play an active role in our government, and it is in our first amendment right to be able to petition the government. Especially seeing that the district gets the feedback from the trustees who gets it from the schools to be able to say exactly what is needed for our children to be able to succeed. Better pay for teachers, more support, more hands on learning, SEL, teaching more than just the STARR test, but life skills!

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

Right now I believe that the government is aiding the urban communities with allotment for early education 19-20 there was $835mill. given. In some cases the ones to only receive this aid are typically the ones that gets free or reduced lunches or meet certain qualifications. Which I think that there are more families who are not apart of these programs that in fact does need help with being able to fund their children education from pre-k through college. With inflation continuing to be on the rise parents being able to afford and even some being single parents it is difficult to make sure that all ends are able to meet.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.

Agree

Freedom of speech is their right.

School districts should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Agree

EDUCATION

What is the function of the local school board?

The function of local school board is to help establish a proper obtainable vision and reasonable goals for the schools in which they are responsible for in their district. To set standards for the students performances and to make sure that the needs while attending school is being met. (the needs to help them with succeeding academically). The school board is to make sure that they speak on behalf of the people that elected them in the position in which they are in, their values, views, and expectations.

Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?

The board of education currently sets those curriculums and determine resources to use however, the board is just that the board they are not the ones that are inside the school dealing with the students on the daily basis. Seeing what emotional, social, personal, disabilities that the children are dealing with at all times. Sometimes this can conflict with their ability to focus on the curriculum at hand but doesn't mean that they are disabled or sped, just in that moment things are playing apart with their performance in which I believe that the school board should have a say so in the curriculum that their students are receiving and not just a heads up as to "this is what your students will be focusing on" but more of a input. A lot of our students are in fact capable of performing academically but just need a more tailored assist. As answered in the prior question the school board should know their districts and what is needed.

When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?

Parents should not be restricted from speaking in school board meetings!

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning

Language Arts, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Informational Technology, Social Emotional Learning, Critical Race Theory, American History, Political Activism, Vocational Learning, Foreign Language, Science, Gender Identity, Sexuality, Art & Music

Which more closely matches your view of America's founding principles? A) Liberty and equality. B) Slavery and racism.

Slavery and racism

What does "equity in education" mean to you?

This can take many forms in explanation. However, to me I believe it to be creating an opportunity within our educational system the caters to all of our children accordingly.Sl

Written parental consent (opt-in) must be obtained before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL).

Neutral

CSE should be a course the require parental consent not so much with SEL

The loss of local control in education is too high a price to pay in exchange for federal dollars.

Choose not to answer

Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.

Strongly Agree

School boards are accountable to parents and taxpayers.

Disagree

School boards fail at allowing the taxpayers to know where and how the funds are being allocated, spent and when. When it comes to the parents they aren't listening to parents at times when it comes to their children.

Do you believe students should have access to materials that graphically depict and describe sexual acts?

No

This should be a decision that parents make on their child's behalf.

All print and digital material available or presented to students should be easily accessible for public review.

Strongly Agree

VALUES

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

Christian.

I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Strongly Disagree

No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.

Neutral

If the child has alternative names and or pronouns, the school, staff and administration should respect it. When it comes to transition that is something that should be dealt with at home and if and when necessary changes are needing to made then the school and parent(s) can come together and discuss what is needed.

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.

Neutral

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

It is up to the parents to decide what is an appropriate age to teach their child this. Not all children are responsible or mature enough to receive information like such when taught. It should also be up to the parent as to if the child should learn about this at home or in school.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex

I believe that this is something that should be determined by the parents whether or not their child should be in this course.

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

This helps with avoiding voting fraud.

ABOUT YOU

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

NO

A candidate's personal moral values are relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.

Strongly Agree

Yes, because it gives the voters an idea of who they are placing in leadership. Someone who isn't going to be a yes man, but stand on their morals and principles. Everyone may not agree on everything but that is when hearing the public out orchestrating meetings, going to the schools and speaking to the parents come into play.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Choose not to answer

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

NA

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I would like the voters to know that I am running for district 3 trustee. I am focusing on increasing the educational performances numbers of our students, ensuring that they are most definitely able to retain what they are being taught, while also maintaining inclusion, flexibility and support. I want to impact our schools in a positive light. So that our schools are able to properly educate our children for their tomorrow. Empower our students to know that they are more than the labels and can re-write their futures in a more confident way. Lastly improve our low performing schools academic performances, allowing teachers to do just that teach rather than spending their class period discipling/redirecting students, cutting into learning opportunities, but also providing more support and staff for teachers as well. I am asking for your support and vote, because we are needing change so vote Mar'Tayshia James!
