As a School Board Trustee, I remain aware of pending legislation and have open dialogue with legislators about education issues. I have never used district/taxpayer money for any contact. I am very conservative and believe keeping lines of communication open with legislators cost the taxpayer nothing!

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

I am a big proponent of government funding and local funding for public education, through high school. I support funding of Pre-K education, as there has been significant data that shows the benefits of Pre-K education increasing student success.

Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?

Curriculum decisions are made by the Superintendent and staff, in line with goals, vision and strategic plan, which has been developed by a broad section of the community, including administrators, staff, business organizations and parents and is approved by the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees is responsible for approving necessary resources.

When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?

Parents and community members may speak at Board Meetings of our district during the Public Comment portion of our agenda. They may speak about any item on the agenda prior to action being taken. If the item they wish to speak about is not agenda-related, time is set aside for additional comments at the end of the meeting. Board members should be open to listen to comments, but must always suggest that complaints or concerns are always addressed, beginning at the lowest level of concern.

I believe equity in education aims to provide equal opportunity to all students to develop valuable skills and knowledge that help them live a full life and be a positive contributor to society.

Written parental consent (opt-in) must be obtained before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL).

I have been involved with children all of my adult life. I am committed to providing exceptional educational opportunities for all, preparing students for their future and for the future of our communities. I support free and public education and will always do my best to ensure the vision, goals and mission, set forth by our district’s strategic plan, with all segments of the educational community and the community as a whole providing input, are met and evaluated.


2ND AMENDMENT

Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.

Our district has its own Police Department, with officers available and on all campuses, if a need should arise, thus securing the safety for all concerned.

School vaccination requirements help safeguard children and adolescents by making sure they are protected when they get to school, where potential for vaccine-preventable disease transmission is higher.

I support mask mandates.
